A quick doot about the mac pop ups and folks saying it's because I'm not using the bra "case". The pop ups were happening while I was using them with my iPhone! I was actively listening to a podcast with a device synced on the same iCloud account and for some reason they were desperate to sync to two devices. Off my head and not on a stand they don't do anything annoying at all. Also folks saying no case is why they didn't sync properly too but I've been happily using them for 8 months before any syncing issues kicked off. Besides, a lot of bluetooth headphones pull that trick on me! Mice and keyboards as well... Bluetooth devices fit really well with a lot of peoples lives and hustles but I'm happy going back to ye olde cable 📼.
Honestly i agree with you especially on the going from bluetooth back to cables, i recently switched out my PC headset out from a wireless steel series headset to a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pros and i can honestly say that im not bothered much at all by the cables, i thought i would hate having to take off my headphones and having the tethered but it really isn't that big of a deal and especially if using wired headphones on mobile devices i don't see the huge appeal of not having them wired, especially like you said the reliability of a cable is just unmatched, and maybe that is just the fact the bluetooth tech hasnt reached its full potential but everytime ive used bluetooth or wireless headphones there's always some BS at some point that leaves you frustrated and makes the cabled headphones look oh so tempting
"Not using the case makes syncing issues" is a super dumb excuse. What does the case have to do with the headphones syncing? The case has no electronic parts whatsoever. I don't understand how a case can help with anything, other than carrying and protecting stuff.
Supposedly they will only update if left in the case - as someone with these headphones they seemed to fix a fair few of these problems in the recent update
I genuinely felt like these things were self aware. Whenever I’d be in my home they’d function, but whenever I decide to go out on a walk they decide not to function. It’s like it’s somehow aware of its location and choosing when and when not to function. I SWEAR THESE THINGS KNOW
Same for me. As soon as I get to the Apple Store they work perfectly but when I get home they act up again. It’s so frustrating because they sound so good. I just wish they worked 😭
The iPhone mic doesnt sound as bad as I thought it would, just makes the room sound empty. After like 5 minutes i could completely forget if I wasnt thinking about it.
"Too smart for their own good." That's the history I've had with most Apple products, tbh. Apple makes a lot of decisions for you and as long as you fit the intended use, Apple products are a wonderful experience, but I always enjoyed doing my own thing my own way so I always found modern smart devices getting in my way more than anything. Other tech companies, including Microsoft, are moving towards that direction, except that their intended experience is inferior because they don't really understand what people want lol
Micro "hold you on the line for 3 hours while they figure out why their shitty activation process is not working before just giving up and providing you with a new product key" soft? Tell me it aint so
This is why I use Linux. It took some setup, I've had to open a text editor and write some scripts, but like...I make laser-etched signage at my job. Usually, someone will give me artwork that's intended to be displayed on the internet to turn into a laser-cut sign. This means it's a color PNG with a transparent background. When I used Windows, I had to open up a raster editor like Photoshop and go through menus removing the alpha channel and desaturating the image to greyscale so that the laser software understands it. Now on my Linux machine, I've got it set up to where I don't even open an app. I can select a PNG file in the file manager and click "Desaturate" and it runs imagemagick and just does the changes. And it works on selections of multiple files, so I can just drag a rubber band, right click, click one thing and dozens of files are just done.
Talking about Apple phones specifically, I've played around with a bunch of different ones, from Android and Tracphone to iPhones. I, in all caps, LOVE Android. I can do almost anything I want to with an Android phone, depending on the manufacturer. However, I found myself getting really frustrated with app glitches, so I decided to switch back to an iPhone and see if the experience improved. In some ways it did and in others it left a lot to be desired. I, in all caps, HATE how non-customizable iPhones are. Other than choosing a phone color, engraving and changing wallpapers, there is nothing I can do to differentiate my iPhone from someone else's. However, apps are mostly far more stable on iOS than Android. As far as my phone goes, I've found that I want something quick and reliable, and iPhones deliver on that with flying colors. ...but I'll never switch to an iMac over the PC I built lol
Yep, you hit the nail on the head. Apple's style seems to be "we've set this up for you, and there's less settings so that it's less confusing." I personally really dislike that ethos, but I understand why some people click with it. But _so many_ companies are trying to copy that - despite a sizable portion of their customers getting annoyed - and they're not even doing it properly. They just randomly remove settings and features to make things more "streamlined". Like, Windows recently removed the ability to have your screen brightness change depending on whether your laptop is plugged in or not. Macs will do that, Linux will do that, my phone will do that, even my freaking 3DS will do that, but Microsoft took it out. And what was their reasoning behind that decision? Here's a direct quote: "Microsoft heard your feedback about a specific case where a display can become brighter when transitioning from a battery charger to battery power...If a person adjusts their display brightness, that brightness will now be remembered as their preferred brightness whether they are on battery or connected to a charger. This new behavior results in a more consistent and battery friendly experience." (Source: www.tenforums.com/tutorials/44213-adjust-screen-brightness-windows-10-a.html) So basically: a couple people had a mildly annoying issue with the feature, so instead of fixing it, or even turning it off by default (but letting you turn it back on), they just completely removed it. For a very mild problem that probably wasn't affecting many people anyway. I can't stand using Apple devices, and I mainly run Windows, so you can be sure I mean this from the bottom of my heart: _Fuck Windows._ And Microsoft. And their "battery friendly experience". This shit is borderline anti-consumer. If I'm ever able to adjust to working in Linux, I'll jump ship in a heartbeat.
True man, not having an on/off switch on the AirPods/pro is understandable whereas not having it on a pair of full sized wireless headphones seems stupid af
A switch would cause apple to earn a few pennies less for each $1000 headphone. For all the sales combined it would amount up to tens of dollars! You madman!
I went for XM5s over these and I'm glad I did. I haven't had any "we as the headphones know better than you about what you want" moments with the Sonys. Absolutely love em.
I went for the qc45's and absolutely love those. My brother went for the Airpod max. the QC has better noice cancelling than their competitors but the max and XM5 has slightly better sound. Overall they're all very good purchases and can't go wrong with either
I adore mine XM5! But, you know, every time when I tried to give it to friends for a test drive for a couple of days, they were kind of disappointed by its sound. Always, I mean always, I've asked them to find the proper EQ. Happily, now there is a function in Sony Headphones App to make your own EQ after little sound quizzes.
That bit about all of those Siri features and things being enabled by default really hits home. My biggest pet peeve about technology these days is how it all tries to decide what you want for you, instead of just asking.
Isn't that more the Apple philosophy? Them predicting what you want and just doing it no matter how incompetent you are is their whole stick. Almost everyone else offers you more options/customization as soon as you diverge from the mainstream.
I hadn't realized this was an issue with the maxes. My Sony xm4 over-ears don't enable this by default and the only way to enable it is when you first pair the headphones to an android, it asks if you wanna connect it to Google or whatever or you get the Sony app and enable it there. Does the other Apple wireless audio stuff do this siri thing?
Haha yeah... One thing that never failed to piss me off is when I accidentally started the google assistant over Headphone controlls and it just SCREAMS AT ME THAT I DIDN'T SET UP GOOGLE ASSISTANT YET AND THAT I CAN DO SO NOW or something like that... Didn't hear it in a while as I broke my wf1000xm3 :(
A small part of me actually likes those times where the microphone stops working, because it proves that for myself it's always more about what Dank has to say and his insights on this hobby, than it is about the other parts of the presentation. I certainly can appreciate a dope mic, but if it's all an iPhone, I still feel like that does a great job of capturing what's genuinely important here. But anyways
Sure, but nobody's saying "I don't watch videos ALL I CARE ABOUT IS WHETHER THE MIC QUALITY IS ANY GOOD. Like I don't even bother about what the video is actually about." Nobody does that
Before this video, I wondered if his audio was actually made in the same video or if he occasionally did voiceovers. So, in a way, this is actually really cool because it proves he really is just like this.
this is the reason that i own both cable and BT earphones. i use the BT one for convenience but i use the cabled on for listening to music at home or at work. basically when i'm not on the go. the difference is night and day. cables are reliable as hell and that is the reason when i buy a new phone, the first thing i look for is the 3.5mm jack
battery issues is the part that i hate about bluetooth. i don't want the sound of "low battery" in the middle of working on a desk job and have to put it back in the case for a bit. if i'm on my commute, bluetooth is preferable
I have both types of earphones and it's so convenient. At home, I use wired earphones and sometimes I use the Bluetooth ones for doing certain things and when I go for a walk, go to the gym or I have to go to my English course, I use the Bluetooth earphones because I hate having cables dangling while I walk.
I have to agree with with bringing the headphone jack back. I've kept my current phone for the past 3+ years simply because I want to keep that versatility of having that good ol' 3.5mm jack. Bought myself a pair of the Meze Classic 99s because of this channel, and I love the sound and how comfortable they are. Nothing beats a reliable cable.
My favorite part is how the smartphone reviewer-sphere is so high off the smell of their own farts that they slammed the newest Sony Xperia 10 for having this number or other slightly lower than the Samsung galaxy ultra, as if the rest of us wouldn't gladly take the $600 phone with a headphone jack
@@KChung-fg3kb oh mah lord Sony can't name products like who is going to write or say Xperia 5iii (it's just five three, the end) or something like that, like no way I'm leaving my iPhone 13 Pro Max. This is why we can't have nice things
Whenever I see someone mention the meze 99s I have to mention autoeq. It works with equalizer apo on windows and wavelet on Android, and I honestly feel like it's a necessity for the meze 99s since they sound poor stock imo.
@@JAD-dz3kt I'll have to check it out but I personally have no issues with the sound quality of them stock. I also should add the amazing customer service from Meze. My headphones got delayed by a few days (supply chain had a lot of delays at the time) and Meze reached out with an apology and a discount code.
When I got my APMs, I had lots of the same issues as you. Then, apple released a firmware update, that fixed everything you’re describing for me. I can guarantee your headphones haven’t been updated, for one reason: they only update when they’re in the case! Try letting them sit in the case for a while, plugged in via lightning, with an iPhone unlocked next to them. Leave ‘em for like 20 minutes and that should do the trick! I’d be surprised if many of your connections issues stuck around.
If only apple made a decent case… I love tucking my airpod pros into their case, unlike the plethora of true wireless earbuds I’ve tried since the concept was just on indiegogo. But I spent an hour fucking around with my friends apms, just marveling at how abysmal the case is. And that just killed it for me, honestly, knowing that not only was this part of the experience but an integral part.
I don't get Apple. They make a seemingly useless headphone case that looks like a butt which a lot of people will probably throw out. And then they start requiring it for firmware updates.
The crazyest thing was at 6:33 just as you said "can start playing out of random pairs" my bluetooth headphones randomly connected to my phone and stopped playing your vid. Literally perfect timing.
I found this channel looking for new headphone after mine broke (gaming headphones), but this channel first of all is hilarious and made me skeptical about headphones. I thought headphones couldn’t get as good as he says but wow. I got some HD650s and a nice amp instead of gaming headphones AND WOW what a difference, thank you dank!
Bluetooth headphones should really only be used for use when out of the house or exercising. For gaming, I definitely don't think anyone should be paying for Bluetooth with latency and worse sound. I do appreciate Bluetooth for when I'm out though.
Personally, I find that Bluetooth headphones only really work well in one situation alone: when you need to listen to something while doing manual labour/ stuff with your hands and you can't just play it out of a boombox or something (like if there's others around that you don't wanna bother) . I can't tell you how slowly that stuff goes when you're also dealing with a dangling cable without awkwardly tucking it in your shirt or something. Otherwise yeah, wired headphones desperately need to be mainstream again.
Yep. There are certain cases where it's really nice. And, as an IT guy, I *LOVE* my AirPods when working in loud server rooms and datacenters, with remote helpers on the phone. FanTAStic. But, if I'm just tooling around listening to something, a cord draped between my head and my pocket bothers me absolutely none.
i disagree, i’ve gone full wireless and ill never go back, yeah cables have way better mics and no batteries and maybe slightly better sound quality to audiophiles but cables are so damn annoying, wanna get up from your desk and not take off your headphones? not gonna happen, wanna go for a run without accidentally yanking an earbud out? wanna listen to something without spending 5 minutes untangling a cable?, wanna lift weights without yanking out an earbud? that’s what i love about wireless headphones, throw em on and go, no worrying about a stupid cable, especially with my AirPod pros i take em out of their case put em in and their good to go already automatically connected and fully charged, as long as you remember to charge the case once in awhile your good, and even if the airpods battery runs flat 10 minutes of charging and your good for another few hours, cables and the headphone jack died for a reason, for people like me that want a hassle free experience they just suck
@@brando12343 cables are a slight annoyance to convience at the cost of being cheaper, having superior sound quality and infinitely better mic quality. I do love wireless for it's convience when I want said convience. But there are close to no wireless headphones that'll sound as good as top of the crop wired headphones. And if they do exist, you pay a massive premium for not having 1-2 cables. I'd much rather pay half of the airpod maxes to get something that sounds better but just needs a cable. It's a minor annoyance imo. In certain situations however, I can totally see how a cable could be much more than a minor annoyance. In general, we should just be allowed to choose instead of being forced the more expensive path because it's wireless.
@@nickwallette6201 yehhh, hmmm, at a desk/on a couch listening wired, wireless everything else, I love being able to change clothes without taking my headphones off, climbing, running, callisthenics, everything, never wanna do another handstand in wired headphones also gaming. I much prefer gaming wireless, just being able to run to the fridge and back without taking em off or pulling out the cord it's kinda sad, don't think I'll go back
I love my Airpods Max, but BOY have I had to deal with faulty pairs and technical issues. This Monday I’m going to receive my FIFTH pair. The first 3 pairs all had connectivity issues which got increasingly worse over time to the point of complete failure after a few months, and I just sent the 4th pair back after it stopped charging and became totally unresponsive after the batteries ran out. Here’s hoping the 5th time’s the charm, because I think these are nearly perfect otherwise.
I’ve had problems with the base AirPods (same issues you’re having). That alone was enough to prompt me to invest in the QC35 II instead. The only time I use my AirPods really is if I’m at work when I can use them in mono mode.
From what I remember when you get calls on bluetooth headphones it switches to a protocol that allows for a bi-directional audio communication so you can actually do the call, and that protocol has a very low bitrate.
Yep. I actually had this problem trying to use wireless earbuds with Teams. If you try to use the mic and another app has audio focus, you can't hear anything 🤔
I think I might mow the issue, I was reading some Amazon reviews for these and one of the complaints I saw was that apparently the headphones are built so tightly that condensation starts to build up and over time it can cause WATER DAMAGE. This might not be why but I thought maybe I would give it a shot
The rant at the end about cabled vs wireless. I live for that. Yes. These are all the same arguments I've been making for a decade. And I'm constantly shot down because "wireless is so cool, it's so much more convenient, well I've never had an issue" and like...I just want cables again. Cables are reliable. I breathe for cables. It's gotten so frustrating how much tech companies are trying to kill the headphone jack. Even when it was first removed I could pop on an adapter going from usb-c to aux, but I got a Samsung Galaxy s21 and now none of those adapters work anymore. Phone just says no. It literally brings up a message saying it won't do it. So Ive been stuck with wireless buds for months and they work...fine...about 90% of the time. But then there's that last 10% and the battery not lasting long enough for a full day at work.
Some phones can output analog sound through the USB-C connector; then the adapter would just route some wires to a different connector (passive). Some phones can't do that; then the adapter would act as an external DA converter and amplifier (active). Maybe S21 can't output analog sound from the connector; then you need an active adapter.
Not to mention most bluetooth headphones are those freaking in-ear buds. I absolutely hate those. They never stay in my ears no matter what rubber bits I try, and they get so gross after just using them once.
That's why I will always have a phone that has a headphone jack built in. I have a Pixel 3a, the budget version of the Pixel 3, and the 3a has a headphone jack while the 3 doesn't. How does that make any sense? If you pay more, you lose features?! And I hate the fact that the headphone jack is considered a feature now when not too long ago, it was a given. #bringbacktheheadphonejack
For everyone with that switching problem @ arround 5 minutes: You can set them up so they dont automatically switch to the mac in the preferences. (Settings -> Bleutooth -> Options on Max's -> Dont automatically connect to this mac). Works like a breeze if you use BT mouse and keyboard
I feel like this is the ONE time the “let’s listen to Dank ramble like a mad man” moment had better sound quality then the actual video. Love ya man this was fun.
As an owner of the Crusher Evo's, that video is probably my favorite so far from him and I like daring myself to listen to them with my own bass slid all the way up. The last time I did that, I coincidentally got a pop-up from my health insurance regarding discounts on hearing aids 😂
Also a professionally trained musician here, and more recently a webcomic artist. I TOTALLY relate to not being able to listen to music while working! Anything with lyrics in particular will just tear at my attention. (I'm a singer.)
yeah me too was very busy at certain times and often want either go home or have portable audio, main reason why i bought it ofc best situation would be at home w proper and comfortable setup, took bath, prepare beverages and snacks and listen on pc
I have mad respect for nintendo that my dsi can sit for half a year in a drawer covered in anything and still pop up from there with battery almost full, I have no idea how they do it.
Nintendo has extensive testing of all their products. They know mostly kids/teenagers will be receiving their products so they test them as such. Every single device theyve developed goes thru multiple rounds of being dropped and or thrown and or having stuff poured on it. I've seen multiple PS1s with a broken hinge and not a single GameCube with one. There's a test someone did on TH-cam with multiple consoles and they basically smashed a GameCube to fuq, like they really abused it and had it in multiple pieces- and it still turned on.
DSi's actually turn off when you turn them off. They don't have to do anything except wait for somebody to push the power button. They don't have to listen for wireless signals, they don't have to keep some background task running, they don't even have to remember what you were in the middle of when you turned them off because all of your save data is stored on the cartridge. Literally all they need is a tiny circuit that sits between the battery and the rest of the DS that waits for somebody to push the power button and then connects the two. The amount of power that takes is comparable to taking the battery out of the console entirely and letting it self discharge. If you leave a game on and just close the lid, it doesn't have to power the screens and the CPU can go into sleep mode, so it doesn't take as much power, but it won't last much beyond a week. The 3DS, on the other hand, has StreetPass which is constantly transmitting WiFi signals looking for other nearby 3DSes so they can exchange Miis and stuff. If you're in the middle of a game and just close the lid of your 3DS and go to bed, it's a 50/50 shot whether it'll still have juice the next morning.
I feel this guy. I am sick of all the smartness and battery stuff. I got so sick of the notifications and other stuff, I found myself looking for my ipod from 2000s to enjoy my music peacefully. Conveniences became obstacles.
@@Connectitthefancollector agreed. **if only Apple would bring back the headphone jack so I don’t have to keep dropping 20 dollars every time a dongle breaks**
I'll be honest? As convenient as the bluetooth buds are for me that I've had, they're definitely starting to die on me and it's annoying. I'm 100% on board with bringing back the cable, even got some KZs of my own and they just work perfectly, even after taking one hell of a beating.
I’ve gotten 2 pairs of headphones based off your recommendations. Sony WH1000XM4’s and Grado sr60e’s, and I’m totally in love with both of them. The grados let me hear some music like I’m hearing it for the first time all over again
I got Samson SR850s per Dank's recommendation, and it's been sweet tunes for the past two and a half months. Nice and comfy with a wide sound, perfect for late night desk work in my bedroom. Also grabbed some KZ ZSN Pros, and man. My daily walks and running errands have never sounded so good.
you shouldnt b buying off this guys reccs tbh both of those are mediocre tbh and he even says hes just getting into this but aslong as you enjoy them i shouldnt be making this comment
@@Anino_Makata i got the (newer) AKG K240 studios and I'm really regretting it. like they are good headphones, but they are super boring to listen to. bleeds like crazy too :p wish i got the Samson's or just saved up for the DT 770s
Dank, i really dont mind the video quality. I watch you because of you, and your personality, i dont care about the quality, thank you for always making me laugh!
Literally everything you listed as to why your done with bluetooth headphones is why i NEVER went to wireless headphones. Cable all the way and im glad there are modern smartphones that have as standard a 3.5 headphone jack.
@@Pado01 I do the opposite. At the gym the cable doesn't bother me, run it under my shirt and it doesn't get caught in anything. At home I use wireless so I can get up from my desk and walk around without interrupting whatever I'm listening to.
The headphone jack is one reason i don't want to replace my Galaxy S9+ with a new phone. I don't want a "flagship" phone where i need a janky ass solution if i want to do something as simple as plug in a pair of wired headphones
I remember a time when phone audio was about as good as talking through a trash can that hasn't been emptied in 3 weeks. We now live in a world where we're only slightly inconvenienced by iPhone mic quality. Just something to think about...
Yup. I'm old enough to remember the days when you made a phone call to the other side of the country or international you would expect the audio quality to be so bad you would sound like you were underwater.
I just want to say, thank you for recommending the KZ’s. I love them to death. And I used to dread buying earbuds (even nice ones) because the always became unbalanced in the ears. KZ’s are still doing fantastic tho.
ye not to mention extremely durable. im a very clumsy person whether i like it or not. dropped the earpiece in a tile about 3 feet multiple times. still working ig
I feel like that's the biggest issue with some Apple products: they're *almost* perfect. They can be built very well, designed very well, have really good software, but then have *ONE* gimmick that makes them super annoying. And then there's whatever the case for the Airpod Max's is.
Every apple device - you have to do things the Apple way. Theres no other option, you aren't allowed to have other styles, preferences, opinions. It can be the most annoying thing ever.
Man I gotta say I agree, I’m pretty done with wireless headphones at this point. I’ve had 2 older cheapo pairs of wireless and 2 sets of AirPods Pro’s (my first pair died after only a couple years and I still decided it was worth another pair because I find them THAT GOOD), and while it’s hard to overstate just how convenient they are, I’ve gotten really sick of them. In addition to all the reasons you’ve mentioned, I feel like they’ve changed the way I listen to music for the worst. It’s similar to how I don’t really watch movies anymore because I’m too busy wasting time on Instagram and other cheaper, quicker payoff forms of media. I find myself mostly listening to playlists as background noise for sometimes like 2 or 3 minutes at a time, and getting sick of music in general which is a newer feeling that I really hate. Having unfocused music constantly shoved in my ears has drastically lessened my appreciation for music in general, and I think that going back to the more focused wired experience will make a lot of that better.
Me too to an extent. After about two months of use, my Sony XM4 earbuds started occasionally, randomly sensing touch inputs on the left bud when I wasn't touching it. That would turn noise cancelling on and off and sometimes get it stuck in quick attention mode. Other times I would tap, and it would take a ridiculously long time to switch modes. Luckily, Sony is sending me a brand new pair, but if it has the same issues, I'm done...
AirPod Pros are the best and only Bluetooth headphones I will own until something better comes out - they are *amazing*. Otherwise I have reverted back to wired because they’re are just better.
You'd really only use Wireless for like, the convenience. Good for a work day if yah don't want your boss snooping on yah or something. For in general Listening, Wired will always be better
Take up the drums or smth and revel in the newfound appreciation for the individual parts that make up an audible sum. Lmao try playing an instrument is what I'm saying. If you already do then, nice.
@@possibly8180 That's the thing, I do play music, and I used to have that appreciation a whole lot more. Treating music as filler noise is what has lessened my appreciation and cheapened the experience, and I think a lot of that is because its just too convenient.
My issue with cabled headphones is that the cable ends up snagging on objects when I'm traveling. To the point of breaking my phone, where as Bluetooth headphones have no wire to fling the device its connected to.
Tuck it down your shirt and make a loose knot with the cable around the top button so the inline mic/buttons don't fall down. Works great for me while working.
Just run the cable through your shirt. Been doing that for years and even stuff for like running on a treadmill or weight lifting at the gym works perfectly fine.
I can really feel you. I have now my third pair of Airport Max's, and they are working alright, but the fact that I had two other broken ones at that price point is embarrassing for Apple.
One thing I really like with the Sony's is it's NFC point, just tap your device with the headphones and it just connects/works Bluetooth really is a pain in the ass
I honestly love the XM4's. Never had Bluetooth issues, or hardware issues. Fully reliable, and the battery is great (even after a year). I get that they're not audiophile headphones, but they are convenient, and the Active Noise Cancelling is awesome to have in a busy neighbourhood.
i have an older set of XBs and i agree, i’ve had em for 4 years now, the battery is still going strong and they sound and fit just as good as the day i bought em
@@Decodeish1 I constantly use them at home as I'm completely surrounded by construction sites. They're extremely convenient for work and school though too.
I watched this on my Samsung Galaxy-based cellphone with Anker Soundcore Bluetooth headphones. Growing up with little money has taught me something: middle of the road stuff is just perfect.
Speaking of being done on Bluetooth... I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new Sony Linkbuds Truly open back earbuds? The near field gesture controls? Sony giving it a name that's not despicable. Lots to consider with them...
I have the same compaints about Bluetooth headphones. The one place where BT wins hands down is working out with earbuds. I literally couldn't run with music without the wire pulling them out of my ear until separate earbuds came around.
I think at this point Dank gives us a mic test every video just to let us know what business he's engaged in. Not complaining of course, I love hearing it every time.
Y'know, I don't even really care about the actual content of your videos, like don't get me wrong, I love what I do learn and everything. The main reason I stick around though is that I just really enjoy your personality and sense of humor. Thanks for continuing to make content my dude!
I always think to myself, I will not laugh at his jokes in this video... Needless to say I lol every single video. I Love this guy! Thanks Bro! You put me in a good mood after working hard all day. Thanks 🙏🏾
I bought around 8 different pairs of TWS earbuds for this day. To be honest, buying a few of those was my first step into world of audio equipment. Then, I bought Hiby w3 portable Bluetooth dac (similar to fiio's btr series) and some cheap IEM and I was presently surprised. Nexly, I bought a few more expensive IEMs and fiio btr3k. And now I mostly use my small fiio ka3 with all it's wirefull glory and I'm so freaking happy not to use Bluetooth for most of the time. Sure, when I do a dishes or go to the nearby grocery store, tws is great from comfort stand point, but cable is a king of this land and I hope it will always be...
And this is why my main headphones for the past 20 years have been the legendary Sony MDR-7506 cans. For under $100 USD they have a decent flat response curve that beats most headphones triple the cost, while being cheap enough to replace if anything happens to them (or repair; they still come with a parts diagram). Audiophiles will name numerous headphones that are better that the 7506’s, but also will generally admit there’s nothing specifically wrong with the 7506’s sound (unlike most trendy brands); only the foam pads can be a comfort issue, and there’s are lots of after-market and cross-brand-compatible pads available (I use a set of Beyer-Dynamic pads). Cabled 1991-technology that just works.
3:00 brother, if they are sensitive drivers, they will not need more than 1 W and unless you are listening to bass tests continuously, they won't need more than 100 mW. As you know, bass is what needs most of the power. Now, for the receiver and decoder, 100 mW would be an absolute top limit. A single 21700 - just for the size reference - carries about what, 10+ Wh? These _should_ last an entire day without needing recharging.

I almost lost hope with mine too, but the third replacement was finally it. They've been working perfectly ever since. I still think they're overdesigned and wouldn't have been happy if I had paid full price for them For what it's worth you can disable both automatic connection and ear detection, but the latter makes everything worse because then they're always connected
I had a friend with a similar issue with these and he was able to resolve the noise with a drop of nano-oil on the bearing point. Not sure if you want to try it or not, or if it would help, but hey wanted to throw it out there.
I went through this life lesson. I was fed up with wired headphones and earphones. They always tangled up. I said that's enough I change to Bluetooth ones. With the BT ones came other frustrations. Now you need to charge them up, they have a delay. There is always a chance they think they won't pair with your device. At the end I changed back to wired headphones. A tangled cable is way less frustrating than going through the chagrin, the pairing, keeping your eye on battery life etc.
This channel inspired me to get a pair of HD 600's and a sound card to run them, I've been using it in absolute bliss. I saw you posted a video and excitedly clicked on it ready to hear your voice in a crisp new pair of headphones, but instead I got hit with the Dankpods special microphone 😂 love the content mate, keep it up.
I just mod my headphones to be able to accept a btr3k that I clip somewhere. Now all my headphones can both be wired and wireless whenever I see fit. I have two btr3ks so when one dies (after 11 hours of non-stop use), I just unclip the dead one and clip a charged one.
I'm really glad you brought up that about the battery, it's something so many people don't even consider. Devices like this, if it doesn't have a replaceable battery, is essentially e-waste waiting to happen. And this one in particular is _expensive_ e-waste, which is something of a specialty of Apple's. If you're charging daily, you're looking at about two, maybe three years, before they won't hold a useful charge or become altogether useless. It's just how batteries are.
Apple has been producing recyclable lithium batteries for several years now. I’m just worried will the replacement batteries for these be in abundance or will the certified repair shops do that kind of thing
@@vrubay_nasos recyclable ≠ replaceable. Also certified repair shops can't even fix Apple Charge ports. Just iPhone screen and batteries. Apple doesnot let anyone into their devices.
one thing that draws me away from bluetooth headphones is having to have the battery working to even listen through them cuz battery's die quickly after 2 or 3 years of use.
This is why I like the idea of those little adapters like the Fiio BTR5 he has - or my Shanling UP4 which is slightly less powerful but great value. You can choose whatever headphones you want, hell I can even drive planars on this thing via balanced 2.5mm output and still get great sound and battery life. And yeah the battery will eventually wear out like all things, or the electronics may randomly go up in magic smoke.. but then you just get a new bluetooth box, the headphones are still fine My usual daily setup is open back Audio Technica ADXs, with a super short cable and the Shanling clipped to the headband. I don't even know if you can buy wireless open backs, but I have some now!
The in-store experience is fantastic, I was at the Apple Store the other day for the first time and decided to give it a try. And those headphones make a fantastic first impression… Not quite a good enough first impression to spend that kind of money, but a fairly good first impression.
I tried them in store also, but the store was so noisy on a Saturday that I wondered if I had to activate the noise cancelling. I might try again because I'm just trying to cancel out the tv in the living room.
My most expensive headphone are my Meze 99 Classics, in walnut and brass; and they're great. I can keep those cans for my entire life and they'll probably out live me. I do have a couple BT headphones for convenience and while biking but at my desktop or with my iPod for the most part I'm going cabled.
i like to think that dank has one room dedicated to music listening that has one semi comfy chair, a side table, no lights, and those acoustic panels and it’s the size of a broom closer
I've got some Soundcore "LifeTunes," and they have a design flaw that causes big heads to break part of the headband, but they were $80 and sound great, with 60 hours of battery life and a short charge time.
I also had some Soundcore headphones, the Life 2's. I thought they were pretty great for $50, but then only 2 months later the earcup swivel bits randomly snapped and fell apart thanks to a design flaw, rendering them unusable without tape holding them together. That was annoying.
@@sorimasn from my understanding q30 and life tunes are the same, except for color differences, and q30 being online exclusive, and life tunes being in store exclusive. The headband did get very uncomfortable and loose after the design flaw kicked in, but I just put a bit of plastic bond and it fixed it up, very jank but they still perform good. As for noise canceling I think they sound great tbh. I've dropped them a couple times and tossed them around and stuff, they're holding up good.
Compared to what are used in the past like dollar store earbuds to now audio devices going into the hundreds is terrifying. Because I’m a complete audiophile, my music gives me chills and I need the right pair of headphones to enjoy myself
This video pretty much sums up my understanding of the entire Apple ecosystem. 1. Their hardware is engineered with the hyperperfect world of AutoDesk, not in the real world polluted with cat hair and fingernails. Any dust gets in a butterfly keyboard, you have to replace the computer half of the macbook. Sweat on a magic mouse, she's done bois. You held an iPhone? In your hand? What's wrong with you? Those hinges clicking? They're probably not designed to last long enough to wear in; the micron of lubricant they put in has probably evaporated and now it's metal on metal. It's designed to look really cool during the keynote presentation, on the shelf, and for the first five minutes out of the box. 2. Their whole ecosystem is designed to integrate seamlessly *or else*. "It automatically pairs with all my devices and there's nothing I can do about it." What If I need or want a workflow other than what a California hippie chose for me? Apple can't handle that.
Dank, the only bluetooth headphones I've had that I genuinely love are the anker soundcore series. Specifically their overears. Their battery life is not only fantastic, but they're also some of the best bluetooth headphones for their price range. If you haven't completely given up on bluetooth, I'd recommend reviewing the life q35's.
For wireless headphones I actually really love Sony's top line, the XM3s and XM4s of both the IEM and over-ear are simply awesome. A lot of reviewers miss the wind noise cancellation and it's awesome. However, I bought a Soundcore Motion Boom for riding my bike, wow that thing is loud and can really project bass.
My Anker Life P3 earbuds, though I really like their build quality and noise cancellation, have been a mess. They’re my first pair of wireless earbuds so maybe I’m missing something, but with these I keep experiencing two main issues: 1) the left earbud is almost completely silent and practically unusable even after cleaning them with isopropyl alcohol like Anker suggests, and 2) they just will not stay in my ears; maybe I’m fiddling with them too much, but they eventually just start slipping out after wearing them for more than an hour, and the noise cancellation seal gets undone very frequently to the point of immense frustration and distraction. Point being, I have since switched to a pair of AKG N700NC M2’s, which avoid both the issues I’ve mentioned above, sound excellent, and feel great to wear for long periods of time. Would highly recommend them, if you can dish out some extra money. I’d say they’re worth the investment if you need them for daily college life like I do.
@@bidoofus7921I am late to the party, but I would suggest buying some foam bud tips, like the ones for the Sony earbuds. I found they worked on my Soundcore earbuds; they seal better, they sit on my ears better. While I do like Soundcore, their earbud tips are their only weak point, in my opinion.
TWS headphones with a case seem to fix a lot of these problems: you have several hours of warning if the battery is about to die (at least if the case has an indicator light), they don't try and do anything if they're in a closed case and they seem much more likely to have wireless charging than over-ears so if you have a dedicated place to put them then they'll never run out of charge (until the battery goes kaput after a few years). It doesn't stop the annoying notifications/calls etc. if you're listening to them and it doesn't fix the crappy mic but it's definitely a quality of life improvement
You know what’s funny is that I think the case is actually supposed to completely stop the headphones from just randomly connecting to stuff. They literally like saves battery and a lot.
Nope. It just puts them into a "sleep mode". Mine would sometimes stay connected while in the case, but then mine were defective, so maybe that was just one more issue they had. I'll tell you what that case DOESN'T do - protect the headphones. The corners and headband are completely unprotected, and those are the areas most likely to be scratched and beat up. There are some good (and some bad) 3rd party cases available that are real cases and put the APM to sleep as well. Sad that after paying $550 for a pair of headphones, you have to shell out another $30 or so to protect them... and another $35 if you want to plug them in using a wire...
@@backpacker3421 they are supposed to disconnect from everything when in the case, thats why they call it the smart case. Theres a magnet between the 2 pouches that puts them to sleep.
@@SirSpinalColumn .... The case looks like shit though. For a stupid amount of money it could at least look decent. Not to mention the fact that it's not mentioned in manual
I spent so much time saving up for the Maxs so I had some nice headphones for when I’m making art and doing critical listening, but I decided to just get the Sony XM4s instead, and honestly, I’m so glad I did that. They sound amazing, the noise cancelling is incredible, and they connect easier than my AirPods most of the time.
You know what’s the best part of the xm4s? You can use them through the included aux cable, and they don’t sound bad at all! They’re bassy, but they sound nice and will sound nice even after 5 years when their battery dies.
It’s actually the same thing with the XM3s is too, which is only a slightly older version of the XM4s. To be honest I’m still using my XM3s to this very day and I’m pretty happy with them
As someone who has both I have to say the airpods max really is a big upgrade. They fit better, sound better, work more seamlessly, but I think for bluetooth headphones the xm4s are still great. Josh really has issues with bluetooth headphones in general, not specifically the air pods max.
The one thing i do find better is that they have an aux, yes you can get a lightning to aux cable but it’s just way less convenient and another thing you have to buy. Also if anyone is planning to buy the apm i do recommend to get apple care just in case
I have relatively small flat and moving around in Bluetooth headphones is pure bliss. I just turn on some podcast and forget where my phone is. The battery in my headphones lives about 5 days and it's never been an issue. I'm never going back to wired headphones. Bonus reason: I live in Siberia and going outside in -20C will make your cable as hard as final math test at uni
Funny, I am a Windows / Android user, and got a pair of these, so I don't really experience any of the "too smart for its own good" issues, since Apple pretty much disabled them on all other platforms 💀
What I like about the AirPods Max: • can be charged during listening • superior noise cancellation • comfortable • craftsmanship • exchangeable ear cushions (in comparison to SONY WH-1000XM4)
Apart from sony allows you to repair them. At least that I know of. Also sure you can remove the ear cushions. But it looks hard to do so compared to the AirPods Max.
the issue with bluetooth can be solved simply by turning on bluetooth on the device first, and then the headphones. This or leaving bluetooth on forever solves all connecting issues
I think it must just be an AirPod issue because my AirPod Pros have similar syncing issues to what you described

I hate all smart devices. They are a scourge.
Here's a direct quote:
"Microsoft heard your feedback about a specific case where a display can become brighter when transitioning from a battery charger to battery power...If a person adjusts their display brightness, that brightness will now be remembered as their preferred brightness whether they are on battery or connected to a charger. This new behavior results in a more consistent and battery friendly experience."
(Source: www.tenforums.com/tutorials/44213-adjust-screen-brightness-windows-10-a.html)
So basically: a couple people had a mildly annoying issue with the feature, so instead of fixing it, or even turning it off by default (but letting you turn it back on), they just completely removed it.
It doesn't matter to me how the video sounds. I'll always understand the effort put into these.

might as well use Bluetooth headphones dude. Wired headphones make no significant difference when you don't have a DAC and AMP in-between.
battery issues is the part that i hate about bluetooth. i don't want the sound of "low battery" in the middle of working on a desk job and have to put it back in the case for a bit. if i'm on my commute, bluetooth is preferable
I've been using BT IEMs for recreational cycling and cabled ones any other time, including cycling to do errands. Cabled is much less fussy at times

Nice suggestion actually but like he said in the video, he lost em lol
On the one hand, that's a lame restriction.
But on the other hand, Dank was right: it DOES have buttcrack powers!
I never use the case and mine update just fine, as long as you charge them and just use them, they'll be updated within a matter of days.

They make a seemingly useless headphone case that looks like a butt which a lot of people will probably throw out.

I can't tell you how slowly that stuff goes when you're also dealing with a dangling cable without awkwardly tucking it in your shirt or something.

i disagree, i’ve gone full wireless and ill never go back, yeah cables have way better mics and no batteries and maybe slightly better sound quality to audiophiles but cables are so damn annoying, wanna get up from your desk and not take off your headphones? not gonna happen, wanna go for a run without accidentally yanking an earbud out? wanna listen to something without spending 5 minutes untangling a cable?, wanna lift weights without yanking out an earbud? that’s what i love about wireless headphones, throw em on and go, no worrying about a stupid cable, especially with my AirPod pros i take em out of their case put em in and their good to go already automatically connected and fully charged, as long as you remember to charge the case once in awhile your good, and even if the airpods battery runs flat 10 minutes of charging and your good for another few hours, cables and the headphone jack died for a reason, for people like me that want a hassle free experience they just suck
@@nickwallette6201 yehhh, hmmm, at a desk/on a couch listening wired, wireless everything else, I love being able to change clothes without taking my headphones off, climbing, running, callisthenics, everything, never wanna do another handstand in wired headphones

it's kinda sad, don't think I'll go back
I love my Airpods Max, but BOY have I had to deal with faulty pairs and technical issues.
I had AirPods Max but then exchanged them for other headphones. I was having connectivity while in the car, audio kept cutting in and out
Flaw is in the pin hole in each ear cup. I put electrical tape to prevent condensation and corrosion in the connections.
Idk I haven’t had any issues with them except once when they didn’t work for some reason and I did the reset and after that haven’t had any issues.
Fr I sent mine in and apple wants to tell me they short on repair parts like bruh been waiting half a month to get them back 😩
I’ve had problems with the base AirPods (same issues you’re having). That alone was enough to prompt me to invest in the QC35 II instead. The only time I use my AirPods really is if I’m at work when I can use them in mono mode.
jeez the KZ mic sounded heavenly after the phone audio, seriously impressive!
From what I remember when you get calls on bluetooth headphones it switches to a protocol that allows for a bi-directional audio communication so you can actually do the call, and that protocol has a very low bitrate.
Yep. I actually had this problem trying to use wireless earbuds with Teams. If you try to use the mic and another app has audio focus, you can't hear anything 🤔
yeah bluetooth is just not good enough right now
He’s right about stuff being too smart. I want a tiny speaker jabbed in my ear, now leave me alone damn it.
I think I might mow the issue, I was reading some Amazon reviews for these and one of the complaints I saw was that apparently the headphones are built so tightly that condensation starts to build up and over time it can cause WATER DAMAGE. This might not be why but I thought maybe I would give it a shot
tape over the hole in the inside of the headphones , that might be the issue
My old Pixel 4 would only take *certain* USB C to 3.5mm adapters, I wonder if Samsung is the same? I'd get a popup if I put the wrong adapter in
Some phones can output analog sound through the USB-C connector; then the adapter would just route some wires to a different connector (passive). Some phones can't do that; then the adapter would act as an external DA converter and amplifier (active). Maybe S21 can't output analog sound from the connector; then you need an active adapter.
Not to mention most bluetooth headphones are those freaking in-ear buds. I absolutely hate those. They never stay in my ears no matter what rubber bits I try, and they get so gross after just using them once.
it's just the beggining of bluetooth "dominance"...in some decades from now, all the problems will be fixed, and cables will be useless!!!

Those skull candy crushers in that episode were insane. Even made my poor phones speaker rattle 😂, and I had it low so it didn't explode.
As an owner of the Crusher Evo's, that video is probably my favorite so far from him and I like daring myself to listen to them with my own bass slid all the way up. The last time I did that, I coincidentally got a pop-up from my health insurance regarding discounts on hearing aids 😂

I have mad respect for nintendo that my dsi can sit for half a year in a drawer covered in anything and still pop up from there with battery almost full, I have no idea how they do it.
I have the new 3ds and battery is dead after months of no use
I left my DS Lite for 5 years in a drawer and the damn thing still had battery when I took it out. Nintendo knows their batteries apparently

I have not put them in the case since the day I received them
I think the one gimmick is that they are made by child slave labour

I’m just worried will the replacement batteries for these be in abundance or will the certified repair shops do that kind of thing

one thing that draws me away from bluetooth headphones is having to have the battery working to even listen through them cuz battery's die quickly after 2 or 3 years of use.

The AIAIAI headphones white Bluetooth have been my goto for 8 yrs and still trucking. Highly reccomended
Heeey i have them too
Honestly, this really shows how impressive smartphones have become. You can do a TH-cam channel just from one device, that's so neat.
WhistlinDiesel and Cleetus McFarland mostly use iPhones to film. You couldn't tell without someone telling you
Compared to what are used in the past like dollar store earbuds to now audio devices going into the hundreds is terrifying. Because I’m a complete audiophile, my music gives me chills and I need the right pair of headphones to enjoy myself
what is an audiophile?
I hope this man releases his own headphones one day, he’d know everything that’d be perfect for a pair of them
I'd buy them in a heartbeat
facts i hope so too 🤓🤓
This video pretty much sums up my understanding of the entire Apple ecosystem.
Apple can't handle that.
i don’t think si
I've had anker earbuds and after a couple years they broke. Then I bought some actual 'branded' earbuds and in my opinion the cheap ankers were better
I love my HD450 BTNC's the battery life isn't too big of an issue cause if they die I can just use them as wired ones
That actually does make sense but also sucks for someone who doesn't prefer that way of storage
Yeah I just hang my pair of headphones on a lamp ontop of my desk so I'd be very annoyed if they kept asking to connect
Man! that is exactly what a real engineer thinks. CABLES ARE RELIABLE. thank you for saying it.
And their battery can actually be changed. You will need to spend some time but it can be done without destroying the headset
I think I never clicked on an upload so fast. DankPods is always premium content.
I corrected something sry.
one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us!
Welcome to the club Wade, more than happy to have ya.
And Bluetooth headphones? Get one up ya!
Had a feeling these would crop up again
What I like about the AirPods Max:
• can be charged during listening
• superior noise cancellation
• comfortable
• craftsmanship
• exchangeable ear cushions (in comparison to SONY WH-1000XM4)
Agreed
Apart from sony allows you to repair them. At least that I know of.
Also sure you can remove the ear cushions. But it looks hard to do so compared to the AirPods Max.
Will become a paperweight at some point though. As far as I'm aware they don't work over a cable while the battery is dead.
@@pl4yern45 they aren’t powered by an audio cable, they use the onboard DAC to convert the signal in the headphones themselves.
@@johnmickey5017 Of course, essentially making them an expensive paperweight at some point.
the issue with bluetooth can be solved simply by turning on bluetooth on the device first, and then the headphones. This or leaving bluetooth on forever solves all connecting issues
