I have no words for how happy I am to have found this channel! My grandfather Jack Hemming and wife Ginny farmed cherries on old mission peninsula for decades. Thats where my mother was raised with her siblings like Jed, who took over the farms and orchards before my grandparents passed. He left the successful business created by his family when they arrived in America from Canada. Started as tool manufacturing company for other immigrants settling the bay area. It was and still is "Walter's and Hemming plumbing" today and when Jack sold his part to buy a cherry farm on the bay to raise Bassett hounds as well as raise, breed, and race standard bred pacers. To which he helped aquire the land and construct the fairgrounds as head of the Michigan state fair association.
So as you can see, my passion for my roots that run deep in traverse city make me very passionate and hungry for this content. I was unlucky enough to be born in Wisconsin to an Illinois man and Michigan woman, and have been here my whole life. My sister lives in traverse city years ago as she spent summers there.
Thank you for helping me decide if im going to visit her in a couple weeks. I was worried I'd focus on the people and places that are gone and be unable to enjoy the time. This perfectly timed video and channel find reminded me how it feels to be there, see the orchards, drive down old mission peninsula, and even how I have an ache in my heart to see sleeping bear again. From farm to lake to nature in between, the bay area has nothing but beauty.
And from a 100% Wisconsin sconie who has been to door county Wisconsin, and grand traverse area, your peninsula is better.
Thanks for reading this if you took the time. Oversharing and only partially relatable im sure.
Keep it up, im atleast one super fan of the content if that is worth the work and time you invest in making content.
Thank you for showing people your life to educate others. Grandpa Jack was also a history teacher, so learning and history are passions we had uncommon. Also, there's a video of Jack doing an interview shortly before his passing where he tells the story of buying the farm and why he made the choice in the early 50s. Its on TH-cam and I can share the link if you'd like.
