  • Vizslas are incredibly smart and trainable dogs but you have to put the effort in. Here is our progress with our Vizsla named Voodoo. He is 16 weeks in this video and is training is going way better than expected!
Most days he has to "work" for his breakfast and dinner as we use his kibble as training incentive. It works great and he LOVES having fun while enjoying his meals and then reinforce (aka practice his training throughout the day. On average we spent about 30 minutes in morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon training.

I trained Nick only to go in the weeds out of the way to do his business. Never 'unlearned "

Ryan, voodoo is amazing. I have a 9 week old vizsla and just starting training. Would it be possible to ask you some questions? I am sure you get bothered a lot so I truly appreciate any time you are willing to give.

Good job training, but can I ask why you make him heel on the right and not left?

It's a matter of where we live honestly. We live in an area without sidewalks and for safety we walk a on the left side of the street so we can face oncoming traffic. It made sense to have Voodoo on our right side so from the curb it goes my wife, me, and Voodoo. If we need to jump out of the way we can and pull him with us. If he was on the left in an emergency we thought we might trip over him.

@@ryanhowell3093 Although I'm right hand dominant I may be showing my vishla So I need to keep her on the left she heals on the left and she also cycles on the left. when oncoming cars approach in my neighborhood we cross the street to keep myself between the car and my pup

    Great!
How many times a day and mins do you train?

    • @ryanhowell3093

30 minutes in morning and 30 minutes each night. We actually give him his breakfast and dinner meals during training. He has to work for every bite. We make fun games and he gets fed so he loves it.

Are you going to hunt with him or is he only a family dog? If you are going to hunt, what additional training are you going to do?

He's just going to be a family dog. But you could tell when he was a puppy, the pointer side of the breed was VERY strong. Now that we're in Oklahoma, hunting if pretty limited for us.

Did you follow a video or book for training?

Looks impossible! My Vizsla does not listen to me when he sees ani small animal like rabbit or squirrel or bird.
