    Foil emergency blankets are cheap, light and handy to keep in your bag - tougher than kitchen foil and you can sit on them as well!

    I don't often comment on videos but I just had to say that I absolutely LOVE watching your videos. I "subscribed" long ago and have enjoyed watching each and every one of them. Thank you so much for sharing your photographic journey. I'm looking forward, as usual, to what comes next! PS. As I was watching the very end of this video, the "old fungi" that you photographed nearly brought me to tears... there is something about it (don't think that this is weird, please) that reminds me of my 90+ year old parents who recently passed away. My title for it would be "Grandma and Grandpa" but then, that's just the emotion that I bring to your photo, it's not what you might get from it.

    Hello Courtney,
    I have a technical question for you, but first I wanted to thank you for your videos and also express my appreciation for the way you share your experiences. I really admire your approachable personality and other qualities you bring to your work.
    Coming from an analog photography background, where everything must be meticulously planned before capturing the image, I’m accustomed to the darkroom process, where manipulating the exposure of the negative on the paper is critical to achieving a result that’s hopefully perfect in terms of lights, shadows, and colors when printing in wet conditions. We don’t have the luxury, due to cost considerations, of photographing the same subject 10, 20, or more times and then exposing a stack of negatives to achieve the desired outcome. Therefore, planning is essential, including light metering, correct ISO usage, and so on. Everything is about imagination and previsualization.
    So, when I look at your final images, I notice that you’ve taken several shots of the same scene to achieve the desired result. I also imagine that you have a substantial amount of digital post-production work afterward.
    My specific question is: Why does the new trend in digital photography, since its inception, seem to overlook the preparation and visualization of an image before it’s executed, thereby avoiding so much post-production work that might distance the final image from the subject’s reality? Wouldn’t it be better to focus more on observation and metering before capturing the shot?
    Thank you for sharing your videos; they’re very interesting.

    I see you purchased a Godox flash, I have that very one. I hope you and your Godox friend have many happy days together. I don't shoot mushrooms though I must confess I am now beginning to pay attention to them. I shoot mostly in forests, coastal rain forests here in BC. My favourite lighting is the hard cloudless sun sky that most photographer's dislike. I love the almost rembrandt lighting it creates with the trees. And I noticed that lighting hitting the trees behind you when you started your talk about the weather. Had I been in that area at that time, I would have been searching for well lit trees with defined shadows. I always look forward to your videos - good work both the videos and the photography.

    Courtney, you often refer to 'stacking ' as a newbie I have no clue to what this is or how it works. Can I not just take a single photo or is this a different type of photography you are referring to. Please could you make a video of how you achieve this fabulous photos and describing stacking. Kind regards Alan

    • @CourtneyVictoria
      @CourtneyVictoria  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Alan! I do have a video on my channel called 'How and why I focus bracket my images' that you may find useful. But essentially, when you photograph smaller subjects like this with a macro lens, your depth of field is significantly reduced. In order to get a whole subject in focus, rather than just a part of it, you can try and use narrow apertures of f16-f22 to get more in focus in one singular image, or you can focus bracket. Focus bracketing is taking multiple images at different focal points and then 'stacking' them together in post processing to create one final image. Many macro photographers will choose to focus bracket so wider apertures can be used, bringing less detail and distractions into the background of the image. I hope that helps and I'll happily talk about this more in a future video :)

    • @alanwinkley8811
      @alanwinkley8811 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CourtneyVictoria thank you so much for taking the time to explain this. You have perfectly and clearly explained this and now I grasp the concept behind bracketing. Take care Courtney.
