Yep - the colour scheme was my wife's suggestion but I love all the natural light I get, especially after years spent huddled under multiple sound blankets in a corner!
What a setup! At the moment my setup is a corner of my bedroom with the walls covered in acoustic foam and held up with Command Strips. There are Command Hooks on the wall above which I hang a blanket on to seal the corner off behind me. I have no choice but to sit on the floor unfortunately but one day - if I get out of the London rental cycle - it would be nice to stand and have room to move about.
As a fellow home studio enthusiast this video was fascinating! Loved watching the progression. Floating floor is a dream for me, one day! This build is just mega!!
I've really enjoyed your videos the last few days! I'm in the process of building a booth in my unfinished basement for a podcast I'm working on, and I have found that in my rehearsals, I enjoy the process immensely. For the podcast, I can use processing to take out mild air conditioner / furnace noise, but I am not sure about this for professional voice acting. In your experience, do studios / clients that you work with allow you to process or do they like the unprocessed files? I've seen some videos where clients / agents absolutely require a perfect studio and extremely low noise floor. The basement is a great space, but that outside air compressor noise even from 30' away is a challenge because it is creating a resonance in my booth. Of course, the booth isn't quite finished, and I do have a few more steps to work out the resonance.
You've created an awesome workspace. Mine is much the same.... Except it's in the basement and I'm still using moving blankets. 😂 Someday I'll have a space like yours.
Thanks very much - and that's exactly why I wanted to include my previous set-ups in the video. Because they are what earned me the money to pay for this one, and those moving blankets still do a professional job when used correctly. Good luck!
Hey! great video! As a fellow VO artist who uses online platforms, Its great to see the person behind the gig that I’ve seen online! I’m very jealous of the natural light and space you have in that room. I’m working from an attic with no natural light so I need to take breaks for my mental health! How are you finding the m1 Mac mini? I’m thinking of switching (currently using a beefed up classic man pro)
Thanks Andrew. I've had very limited access to natural light in my workplace up to this point, so it was definitely a priority! Thus far, Mac Mini has been great. My Macbook Pro (2019 Intel) is at least twice as powerful on paper, but the fans will kick in whenever I put on a webcam during a Zoom call or during intensive batch processing. Often its Chrome that makes it spike (I use some extensions for lead generation that make it run quite hard). The Mac Mini has (touch wood) never made a sound. I feel I always need a back up computer anyway, but it's doing the job great for my purposes, not taking up space, and generally behaving.
That is my dream setup!! Going to save it for inspiration for my new space ❤
I love how bright this is. My own studio is like a cave some days!

@@NaturallyRPVoiceover I hear you. I was the blanket fort king for a few years.

Completely depends on your situation how necessary it is, but having a road outside meant it was worth it for me. Glad you found it useful too!
Great studio and very thorough explanations. Love your content, Christopher!
Nice!
Thank you Tim!
oh my gosh you are so good i love the gaming voice overs!!
That's very kind - thank you!
As a new voiceover artist, starting out with blankets and cushions, this is a really inspirational set up! Thanks for sharing :)
Glad it was of interest!
Very nice setup!
Thanks so much!
Beautiful space! Congratulations, and I'm sure you're very proud of it.
Thank you Susheel!

Loved the video and your studio - Jealous! Can you tell me what the holder is for your iPad? Thanks!

Acoustic blankets or just moving blankets?
I used three huge acoustic blankets
Is that -75db including the application of the high-pass filter?
This is fab but I'm guessing very pricey. Can you give us a ballpark figure for the whole shebang Chris?
Yep they supplied everything and installed it for me. Around £13K in total.
Worth it I'm sure. Looks superb. One day I hope :)
