I had the privilege of going to Hawaii and picking up the ukulele while there. I'm self taught and look up tutorials on all sorts of songs. I usually have to look up a few videos to find either a good teacher and/or one for chords and one for strumming pattern. It was SO nice to find a good teacher who breaks everything down, does both chords and strumming pattern and does the song at various speeds. As a bonus, there is a play along AND music sheet! HALLELUJAH!! To top everything off, you say ukulele correctly! You are my new favorite person! Thank you SO much for these videos!
Pretty much my whole life I though music was something I just couldn't do. I listened to all sorts of different genres as a teen and young adult and built up this knowledge base of artists, genres, and songs that I loved but aside from a couple of failed starts I didn't really try to learn an instrument because I thought I was inherently unable to. Fast forward to this year, age 33, and I was diagnosed with ADHD and put on medication. Within a month your channel has kinda upended what I thought I was capable of (aided by the newfound ability to focus on complex or unfamiliar tasks longer than 10 minutes). I still don't have a great singing voice, but I can make music happen with my fingers and that's something I didn't ever consider was possible.

Uke was my COVID Lockdown hobby I picked up! It's such a fun instrument also, so that helps with the ADHD 😁

Thank you so much. I stopped playing for a while and have struggled to get back to where I was. Today's lesson has done the trick. I was able to keep up and play with you! and I feel my anxiety leaving and the confidence I had before returning. 💜

What is the tempo to aim for? I would like to use a metronome to work on getting up to speed, but I'm not sure what speed to work up to.

Little disappointed that it's mainly songs you've covered already or songs that are very popular with lots of tutorials for beginners. I was hoping it'd be a good challenge for me as an intermediate player but nevertheless these songs are always a blast to play. So cheers to another September challenge! 😊

It's nice that you add something new even if it's the same song. Loving the addition of Abby's play a-longs. You have such an international following, it would be nice to have a challenge with a collection of traditional or folk songs from around the world. Adding history or background of the song like Dave Thorp gives in his posts would be great too.

Have a question about the up strum at a quick speed. How do you do an up strum at such fast speed? Abby, in the play-along, doesn't seem to pull up the pointer finger flat. It seems that the fingers stay curled as in a down strum. Help me Obi Wan a Plazi...you're my only hope.
I was wondering the same thing after watching Abby! I need help on the quicker speed. She makes the strumming look so easy.
