Does this head unit remember the eq audio settings and radio station presets etc... in the event of a loss-of-power incident? It takes close to an hour to set some of these decks up when you read through the manuals page by page. You’d think for as long as you’ve been making head units... there would be something on here that had a system settings memory
@beri232 There is a "Audio Memory" setting in the Audio Menu where you can save all of the current Audio Settings including EQ, Time Alignment (digital delay), and Crossover Settings (XO) in the event that your battery goes dead or is disconnected. You can then "Restore" or "Recall" your audio settings once your battery is charged or reconnected. I haven't checked if this also saves your HD Radio Presets, though. I have the DDX9905S which is the previous 2018 non-NAV model to the unit being reviewed here.
@KENWOODUSA- Just bought and installed a DNX995S. Initially we hooked it up on the bench to test and Inrix worked fine using my iPhone 8+ (iOS 12.3.2). Once installed in vehicle (with Maestro interface) the app will not connect to head unit even though the phone is connected through Bluetooth fine and if it does it quickly disconnects. App complains phone needs to be connected to internet which it is. Only thing different between test bench and car is we updated head-unit firmware to V1.6.0009.1400 before car install, which was supposed to improve navi, web link and a few other items. Seems it has done the opposite as Weblink also keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. Main reason for purchase was the navi/traffic as I spend a lot of road time for work in high density cities.
@@KenwoodUSA Well I created a hotspot with my iPhone and connected to it with my Android tablet, connected tablet to head-unit through Bluetooth and was able to connect to Inrix traffic although this is not an ideal solution. So it seems that something in the v1.6.0009.4100 DNX995S update has crippled the iPhone connection to the head-unit as I am still not able to get the iPhone Kenwood Inrix app to connect. As I have said previously it did work before updating the head-unit (came out of the box with v1.4.xxxx firmware). Thanks for your reply
I got the DDX9906XR, it's a nice system and the 720p screen look great, BUT it has a few flaws. First off you would think that since it has a 720 screen it would work with a 720p camera, but the camera inputs are NOT HD, there just regular AV inputs. Also for $899 you would think it would have a capacitive screen with pinch to zoom.
There are actually many great reasons why having built-in Garmin navigation is beneficial: GPS SIGNAL - Works in areas with no/low GPS signal (tunnels, rural areas, etc.). DATA - Unlike a phone, data is not required. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - Turn-by-turn arrows, compass, etc. can be retained on supported vehicles with a Maestro RR. THE EXPERIENCE - Easy to use, Split Screen Views, Weather Information, Lane Assist, 3D Terrain / Photo Realistic Junction View (DNX996XR/DNX696S), & MORE!
@@KenwoodUSA Google Maps lets you download map areas and store them on your phone so data connection isn't a problem anymore. I went to Colorado and downloaded the entire 3 states I was driving through. I dropped data connection many times once I was in the mountains, but didn't have any issues with navigation. Everyone knows Google Maps just has much better navigation compared to Garmin or HERE maps. Traffic navigation is more accurate and comprehensive on Google as well. Love the fact Kenwood is active on this YT. Question: I had an older Kenwood and my wife wants to know if this unit will accept two different phones AUTOMATICALLY. On the old one my phone was the master phone and could call and play music. A second phone could only play music. Now if she wanted to drive my car (without me in the car) and listen and receive calls she would have to go into settings and delete my phone and turn hers on. Takes time. Then I would have to reverse the procedure when I drove it. Will this unit accept two without doing all that? I mean without me being there. Will it allow her via some pop up thumbnail window ask her if she's the main driver and switch phone settings? Instead of having to go to menu, settings, undo/delete phone, look for her Bluetooth, pair it. Doesn't pair, press again and finally she gets to use it. Thanks

If the icon doesn't appear on the DMX7706S, it typically means that the receiver is not receiving the information from the phone. This could be due to a faulty iPhone cable, USB extension/retention etc. You could also try restarting your phone, and ensure that CarPlay is not disabled in the restrictions on your iPhone.
It really depends on the application and what is trying to be accomplished/retained. It would be best to consult with an authorized KENWOOD dealer in regards to your vehicle specifics.
Voice commands will work via Bluetooth for phone calls, but for navigation, voice commands will only work with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto navigation apps, not Garmin.
Kenwood needs to look into updating this stereo for galaxy s10. My old samsung s7 worked great with this.fast forward to my s10 ,and now theres alot of little incompatibility problems.my mirroring won't connect, handsfree options aren't all functional with s10 unlike the s7. Apple car play didn't work with apple x. Come on guys keep with the times
The receiver supports screen mirroring, however a recent Samsung update has disabled it on select phones, so please file a report with Samsung asking them to re-enable that feature for you. As for Apple CarPlay, the iPhone X is absolutely compatible.
+HonUsCo HIKERS @KENWOODUSA @John O'Bryan I think it's slightly different because Kenwood added the VSS wire into the harness (required by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). Need Kenwood to confirm please!
KENWOODUSA I just installed this unit to my 2017 WRX with Harman Kardon with iDatalink RR. I connected the VSS wire to the VSS wire from the iDatalink but I keep getting the error, it keeps saying that “The speed sensor must be connected to use Apple CarPlay wirelessly”.
My question is about the 9906xr, if it is possible, can you let me know what the specs are? 720p resolution, bluetooth 5, what processor is being run, also how much RAM?
We are working on ways to make this easier. In the meantime, we do provide these types of documents to our authorized dealers, so please feel free to contact them for guidance.
Ok thanks for the quick response! I was told by Kenwood customer service that it did not change. Thanks for this info! I am replacing a DDX9905s in my Jeep and sold that unit but I just switched out the antennas thinking I could use the old one. 🙁 Do you have a link to purchase this antenna separately? I promise I won’t bother again! Thanks!
I know I said I wasn’t going to ask anything again, but I can’t get a direct answer from customer service. I was ordering the new GPS antenna from the parts link you sent and he said the Bluetooth mic changed as well? Did it change? If so, is there anything else accessory wise that changed? Thanks so much!
@@bransonchastain2004 The Bluetooth technology of the receiver has been upgraded from v 4.1 to v 5.0. Although I don't see a specification for the mic itself, different mics can result in a different resistance rating, so its always a good idea to use the microphone included with the specific product. I did test a DNX996XR with a DDX995S microphone and it did function properly. The wiring harness also changed, as it now has a pink speed sense wire in it.
Question on this radio if I'm using my ipod that have video on it. I heard that I won't be able to see the video if I'm driving. Is that right? And if so I'm I able to by pass that?
I would like to have the current weather, gas prices, traffic, ect. withOUT having to connect a phone. Maybe that will come in the future! So do I have to connect the phone to update map locations? I'm guessing yes, but want to ask anyway. How do I connect the tire pressure monitoring, climate control stuff? That was a big surprise, never that that kind of stuff would be available. Nice system.
Using your phone via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay will display the latest mapping via those platforms. To update the Garmin maps in the future, you would purchase the update here: kenwood.garmin.com/kenwood
HEY KENWOOD, GOT YOUR EARS ON? I have your DDX375 2-Din 6.2 Inch Monitor Receiver with Bluetooth car stereo. I have some positive and negative things I want to say to you folks. First, for years I bought Sony car stereos for all my cars because it had the lowest db sensitivity, which is what all the pro car stereo installers said I want if all I'm interested in is excellent reception for listening to NPR talk radio. All the Sonys I had sorta stunk with dropping the FM signal. I finally tried this Kenwood DDX Super Tuner and couldn't be happier with the reception. Your db sens numbers aren't as low, so I don't understand why it's so much better and why you don't tell anyone it's better. Second, I got some gripes... Who ever designed the screen on my DDX should be fired. If the sun is bright outside OR if I'm wearing my sun glasses, the screen is impossible to see. Pls fix that. Also, the DDX has a cam button that doesn't work with my current backup cam. It worked with the last one, but now I just get a blue screen when I hit the button, but it works fine in reverse. Lastly, I think all car stereo manufacturers have missed a great opportunity. You're so busy making the stereo tuner quiet, you left out a cool function that should be marketed to all car enthusiasts. There should be a button that turns off the noise filters so you can hear your engine's ignition system firing. Call it an Engine Audio Diagnosis feature. Tuners would LOVE to be able to hear their electricals firing. I used to have to find a specific unused channel in the AM band that would let me hear my engine, especially if I thought I felt an engine misfire. I would try to hear it to confirm my thought. This feature would be awesome. Do it! All for now.
Thanks for your feedback. As for your back-up cam, this means that the camera is only being powered by the reverse wires, and needs to be switched to be powered by the accessory wire.
@@KenwoodUSA Hi, thanks. If I understand you correctly, either you're saying there's a switch on the cam that needs to be turned on to accessory OR you're saying the camera needs to be switch out for one that can be powered by the radio's accessory wire. Please confirm which one. Also, I hope you consider the Engine Audio Diagnosis feature idea I was talking about. It is unlikely anyone would ask you for it because stereo manufacturers have been making stereos noise free for so long, but if you add this feature, tuners would eat it up (if you market it properly, that is). The few SCCA racers I showed how to do it loved it 20 years ago. They srarted putting cheap JC Whitney am stereos in their race cars just so they could hear their ignition systems. Please let me know about the camera switch you were talking about. Tx
The DNX996XR has three different camera inputs and one of those are designated for backup camera. Depending on your vehicle and what integration harness you go with, this receiver does work with most oem backup cameras!

You can easily create an HDMI input by using our CA-C3AV cable along with a 3rd party adapter like the iSimple ISHD01. The benefit is that the AV-IN source is an available Dual Zone source, of which an HDMI input would not be capable of outputting to a Dual Zone source.

Shop around before choosing kenwood. Ive spent alot of money on a dnx996xr,2 front and rear cmos320,and a drv dash cam. Did all the settings and yet the hu does not allow front camera settings to be selected even tho it will view the camera.manual says it will control both,in doesnt.it will allow front camara settings when i power off dash cam. then u can operate the front camera settings but you dont have a dash cam on or recording .the rear works as it should all the time as.Kenwood must not have researched and tested there own products and checked compatibility becuase there's definitely a software issue when using there own hardware. and there is zero customer support available. My dealer even went out of his way, installed another hu, camera swapping etc, and it has same problem. He said something about a glitch and i should have just got normal cameras and not the fancy cmos320s blah blah blah. Such a shame that there retailers cant correct problems and even kenwood can't even reply to polite email through there help section so maybe u will respond here. Feel free to email or call me kenwood but i highly doubt u care. Im just average joe. I even posted a video to my channel showing u the error if u care to watch.

Update: USB (serial bus) device disrupts INRIX BT (SPP) wireless serial protocol between Android and DNX997XR. Workaround for 95% connection success: Remove USB before DNX boots, INRIX traffic loads into DNX Garmin (~45 s); ~150 s green traffic icon. Reconnect USB AFTER INRIX loads. If USB is NOT removed before DNX boot, remove USB, force stop, and reopen the Kenwood Traffic app; INRIX will connect to DNX Garmin. Reconnect USB. Repeat seq when entering vehicle: Remove USB device, boot DNX stereo. IMPORTANT: 'Disable' Android Auto app (also uses SPP) in App Settings. Android Auto can be connected after Kenwd Traff connects to DNX Nav, but it must be disabled before booting the DNX unit if an INRIX connection is desired. Note: if Kenwood Traffic stays connected after HU is turned off, force stop and reopen Kenwood Traffic -- more consistent disconnect is needed for Kenwd Traff. Perhaps future iterations of the app can address the timings for the serial port addresses. Lastly, some months-long road closures are missed by the INRIX database that purportedly uses predictive AI and real-time road closure and detour algorithms.
I can have it all? really? I was seriously ready to splurge and buy this new system, until I got all my questions answered from Kenwood technical support. Here's why this brand-new product is completely worthless to me: This stereo only supports one Apple product at a time, which means, if you have 'all' your music stored on your iPod Classic as a dedicated connection to this stereo, then you cannot simultaneously listen to music while using CarPlay Navigation. How could the Kenwood engineers make such an obscene mistake? The Sygic GPS Navigation app is by far the world's finest navigation. It has the most stunningly beautiful views of the skies, mountains, and meticulously-crafted 3D buildings. It makes every other navigation product in existence look insanely ugly and boring beyond belief. So, I should have the right to constantly view the Sygic GPS Navigation on this stereo's screen via CarPlay while being able to simultaneously listen to music from my iPod Classic. However, CarPlay and iPod are two completely separate sources, which cannot operate simultaneously on this stereo!

@@KenwoodUSA Why did they disable it? Any idea?
What older 6 disk CD changers are compatible?? I'm old..
Unfortunately you would have to obtain an FM modulated cd changer to be used with any of our current receivers.
Are the inputs designed so that each one is specific to either Apple or Android, or are they completely interchangeable? thanks!
Both USB inputs work for Android Auto. For Apple CarPlay, you can only use the Black USB input.
Will apple wireless car play work with my 1999 vehicle as will ?
Yes, assuming you can connect to your vehicle speed sense wire.
is the wiring harness the EXACT same as the DNX995S?
Should be the same.

@KENWOODUSA
@John O'Bryan
I think it's slightly different because Kenwood added the VSS wire into the harness (required by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). Need Kenwood to confirm please!
What's the difference between this Unit and the DDX9906XR?
See similar reply below.
@@AREMPEE That means that the receiver is not receiving a proper speed signal input.
KENWOODUSA How? VSS wire is connected to the VSS wire from the iDatalink harness.
@@AREMPEE If it's displaying that message, then the receiver is not receiving speed sensor information.
What’s the equivalent model that have Europe FM Band freq
My question is about the 9906xr, if it is possible, can you let me know what the specs are? 720p resolution, bluetooth 5, what processor is being run, also how much RAM?
We will refer you to the specs on our website as soon as this product is listed there later this month.
@@KenwoodUSA
Will the new 2019 XR head units support high-quality Apt-X and/or *Apt-X HD* Bluetooth streaming???
Kenwood Needs something to compare Recievers on their website... i have no idea what the difference between most of them
We are working on ways to make this easier. In the meantime, we do provide these types of documents to our authorized dealers, so please feel free to contact them for guidance.
If i already have a backup camera oem will it be a simple plug in with Pac harness?
Some 3rd party companies offer plug and play harnesses for select vehicles.
I noticed you said to be sure and use the new GPS antenna. Did the antenna change on the new DDX9906xr as well. Thanks!
Yes it did.
Thanks!
@@bransonchastain2004 I'll make sure customer service is aware. Here is a link to our parts: www.kenwood.com/usa/Support/Parts_Distributors/
When are we going to see support for wireless android auto for Samsung devices such as the note 9 ?
The good news is, the receiver is ready if the phone ever becomes ready, but unfortunately we don't know when that will be, as it is not up to us.
@@KenwoodUSA so you're saying its up to Samsung or android auto software developers ?
It's unofficially already out for all android phones. just use developer mode
Question on this radio if I'm using my ipod that have video on it. I heard that I won't be able to see the video if I'm driving. Is that right? And if so I'm I able to by pass that?
Ground the green parking brake wire.
It sounds to me like you will be at a severely high risk of getting into a horrific accident, since you desire to watch videos while actively driving.
Hello, I'm curious as to whether any brand dashcam will connect to the Kenwood brand?
Only our DRV-N520 will be able to connect and be controlled by our dash cam compatible receivers.

No the receiver does not accept a SIM card, it does not offer a cellular connection. Thanks!
Can i install DTV on the 996 Unit?
Tx
Can you watch TH-cam over the wireless android mirrioring?

What is the differences between the DDDX8906 and the 9906XR?
The DDX9906XR adds a HD Screen and additional sound quality upgrades like the cross shaped panel structure.
So what's the different from this one and DDX9906XR ?
The DNX996XR adds Garmin navigation, a reverse tilt screen, and a custom trim bezel.
Will it work with my oem backup camera?
The DNX996XR has three different camera inputs and one of those are designated for backup camera. Depending on your vehicle and what integration harness you go with, this receiver does work with most oem backup cameras!
Kenwood head unit missing the playtime bar?
We have had this on previous models and may consider it in the future.
@@KenwoodUSA Hello from Germany.... sorry but I have the 2017 Flagship DNX8170DABS and this product has also no playtime bar! I'm very very angry about that fact because every 5 bucks Mp3 Player has this main feature! It's absolutely important but your flagship Units doesn't have it! Please fix this! That's not state of the art!
Still no HDMI input and the input cable sucks. It won't do HD input. :(
You can easily create an HDMI input by using our CA-C3AV cable along with a 3rd party adapter like the iSimple ISHD01. The benefit is that the AV-IN source is an available Dual Zone source, of which an HDMI input would not be capable of outputting to a Dual Zone source.
can it support USB 4G dongles for an Internet connection?
No.
Hello. I know that in order to input HDMI that I need to use the CA-C3AV and an isimple media cable. That works as it should. Can I use another isimple media cable to convert the composite AV output back to HDMI? Thanks!
That's not something we have tested.
Thanks man. I almost ordered one from crutchfiled. Think I will pass on Kenwood now.
You don't have a clue what you're doing or talking about. You don't even know the difference between there, they're and their. Kenwood has been around longer than your dumbass and will be here long after you're gone. Quit talking shit about things you don't know how to use.
When will the DMX906S will be released?

KENWOODUSA thank you. I’ve been patiently waiting for this to start my audio upgrade. Been looking forward to it for a couple months now.
Update: USB (serial bus) device disrupts INRIX BT (SPP) wireless serial protocol between Android and DNX997XR.
Workaround for 95% connection success:
Remove USB before DNX boots, INRIX traffic loads into DNX Garmin (~45 s); ~150 s green traffic icon.
Awsome stereo just wish it was more stylish
Does this play VHS tapes?
I can have it all?
really? You failed to mention internal memory for music collection, and the software to quickly sort through music while driving, Artist, album, genre, years, I mean why the hell did I spend years meta tagging my music to have the Receiver industry totally ignore the POWER of that!!!!!
it's just sad that $500 smartphone can do much better than $1200 headunit. i still have kenwood dnx9140 on my car and they haven't updated anything but user interface design since 2010.

Old interface design in 2020
I was seriously ready to splurge and buy this new system, until I got all my questions answered from Kenwood technical support. Here's why this brand-new product is completely worthless to me:
This stereo only supports one Apple product at a time, which means, if you have 'all' your music stored on your iPod Classic as a dedicated connection to this stereo, then you cannot simultaneously listen to music while using CarPlay Navigation.
Can I send you my DDX 9905s and pay the difference for this one? Lol
