You may want to start by getting use to your rod and line. go out casting to any body of water and don't think about fish until you get used to it. Then read or watch some "how to" stuff. Then, if you can go with a friend who fly fishes so he can guide you a bit. If you really want to just get right to it any beat will be yours on Connetquot so you won't be disturbing others. This time of year, water is cold, and fish are slow so be patient. beats 16A, 15, 12 and 11 are well stocked lately but fish slow and low as they say. Streamers that sink (green woolly Bugger). nymphs. If it is a warm day you may see some rising fish in the afternoon. Best 74 minutes I've spent, shy of fishing. Thx u Mr. McCoy. I'm entirely new to fly fishing. Live in the city. Only thing I knew of Connetquot was its name on the exit sign off Rt27 as I head west and transition to Southern State. Had not idea the amazing resource here. Thanks to Orvis Westbury for mentioning Connetquot. I've never wet a fly line but will come out, be stealthy and respectful and give it a try this April. Good tip: fish close. And water haul and roll cast. Will used those techniques to stay in control and try to leave fewer flies in the trees. Appreciate you sharing about this beautiful sport.
