I'm running into the opposite problem because the skates I've had for like, 15 years defaulted to jam plugs. So I learned on jam plugs but now I'm switching to toe stops and I keep dragging my stop on the rink floor and wiping out. I hate being so rusty lolol

Hey Rebel! I actually just started skating a couple months ago with not much practice. I actually fell pretty hard last week and compression fractured my spine a bit. I really wanna keep going on though!! I want to learn this. Your "message to new skaters" video came across my suggestions and made me feel like I shouldn't give up. Is it normal to be kinda afraid to start this back up? Thank you for your videos!

Avanti Plate + Short Stem Toe Stop = Best of both worlds. :) I'm too old to completely ditch the stop all together. LOL But any taller (higher profile) plate, with short stem stops ALL the way in, work about the same. The jam, shuffle, and rhythm skaters at the rink can't figure out how I do the same moves they're doing with stops still on. I like cheating. LMAO

Could you maybe to a video on rink etiquette? I’ve been skating twice a week for about two months and it seems like no matter what I do I’m getting run over by kids AND adults that like to use me as a traffic cone. I have sensory issues so my first instinct when some gets way to close to me is to clothesline them 😂. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if people are just rude

I'm so easily startled and it lowkey triggers my fight or flight so I feeeel this. I understand wanting to be a show-off but showing off by how close you can get to other skaters without hitting them is SUCH a dangerous game and invasive. it reminds me of drivers who will cut you off just bc they want to assert dominance, even though they have all the space they could wish for lmao.

Thank you so much - this was the best explanation I was able to find! Question - what is another workaround besides screwing in the toe stops all the way up? I'm not ready to give up my toe stops, but I want to jam skate. What about a shorter toe stop, or one that is angled, like the Pacer Mini Hugger Toe Stops? Would that allow me to drill my dribbles/toe spins/crazy legs? Thanks so much again :)

In the UK jam plugs are so hard to get hold of the few who have them have jacked the prices to unreasonable levels. No way is a pair of jam plugs worth £25. In dollars that's around $34 FOR ONE PAIR. I'm not paying that. I thought of buying regular toe stops & slicing them down in half then sanding them smooth and round? No idea if it will work but a pair of toe stops here cost under a tenner.

I didn't enjoy skating till I joined clubs because I like learning from other people and just having fun with it with other people even when I'm not learning anything.
      -artistic skating dance classes
      -roller derby
-inline hockey (not quad skates tho)
-local social groups (find on FB, notice boards etc)
or you can just go out to a skate park or beach boardwalk and find other skaters to skate with, or just try convince a friend to come do it with you somewhere.

When I ordered my first pair of skates, I ordered jam plugs because I was planning on doing dance skating. Well, my skates arrived weeks after I got mu jam plugs. So with my stock stoppers on, I was showing my son how to walk on his stoppers, so he wouldn't slide back down the driveway. Well, I'm used to toe picks on ice skates. So I am used to finding my toe picks at a 20 degree angle. With my roller skates, I felt I was at a 70 degree angle. I fell down hard. My son was like, "so you want me to kill myself? I'm good, thanks." When this happened, I realized I may never need the jam plugs, because I would never put my foot in a 90 degree angle!
