The spoon tomatoes have a lot of flavor for their tiny size. Yes, they do grow like crazy but are great in salads. When they get too big, just trim them down some and left them grow back.

Good to know! The trimming down is a great idea - I might try and make room for one plant, then!

I love that idea about using washi tape to close your seed packets. I have tons of it. I’m gonna do that this year too. Thanks

Glad it was helpful! It’s great that it’s cheap and works well.

When your dog barked, my young Norwegian Elkhound (who was asleep but has bionic hearing) became alert and interested.
I well know the feeling of having more seeds than I can usefully start; and later on, more plants than I have good for (in my case, to put in places with good soil that also get some sun). Even later on, having too much harvested to eat or cook with right away or fit in a freezer. I'm working better at getting that all planned up front. Kind of good problems to have, compared to the alternatives, but still challenges.
We are also in zone 7B (new reckoning formerly 7A) in northern Virginia in a forest, and it was 7F here this morning. I likewise have been planning out my growing season. I have a lot of saved pepper and tomato seeds, some pretty unique that I hope to stabilize, along with some I bought (including some great MI Gardener pea and tomato seeds I just ordered). I'm between batch 2 and 3 of pepper seeds, about to start the first (cold tolerant) tomato seeds and the first peas (in 3 gallon containers with trimmed tomato cages inserted). Your seed packet organizers look promising, I'm currently using low 4" square pots I have no other use for, which fit everything nicely except Baker Creek's unnecessarily wide packets.
I think I need to get some Washi Tape too. I'm using small "coin envelopes" from Office Depot, very inexpensive and a nice size and easy to write on, but not resealable.

It's kind of cheating ordering 45 packets of seed than saying you are not going to buy any seeds this year. (Garden math and it was actually last year?) But I share in your wanting more seeds than you will ever be able to plant, and I have a big garden. I have 7 or 8 different kinds of field and popcorn, and can really only plant 1 or 2 varieties each spring. Went down the rabbit hole of figs, and now have over 20 varieties. (if you ever need cuttings, let me know. Could call it a baby gift or something) Do like the wash tape idea.

Yes! They were ordered last year in September. So I definitely want to focus on growing those rather than ordering new seeds. Too bad we just can’t plant everything! 😂 I read a little on figs and they seem a little intimidating to me, but sounds like you’re off to a good start!

@@the_hammstead Figs are super easy to root, basically just stick them in potting mix when dormant and they root and sprout out in the spring. First time I tried I was 6 for 6. I can send some cuttings if you want to try.
