    I remember doing this when Richard posted it on Instagram. I did it with a 1/2" skew because I couldn't cut the head with a 1". Fun piece and I will be making more of them for the holiday season.

      I think the 1/2" skew is currently my favourite skew (Hamlet with rounded edges). It's a great project and I'll be turning some soon to get ahead of the season for markets! Thanks for the comment

    Nice work and good narrative. I look forward to the festive season to make a few from offcuts. For making several the template and forked measures looks a good idea.
    I made a similar tool from an old mortise chisel which works well. I also have one of the Colwin Way tapered skews which is very light and pleasant to use and I find that it is easier to manipulate and so to avoid catches. But I did practice a lot with it.

      Thank you! I've got quite a selection Skews now and they all have their merits but it's practice that makes the difference for sure.

      Thank you John. It's not easy but it is rewarding when it comes out OK. Only one small catch on the hat.

      Thanks Leo, it was an interesting process to follow. Not sure if I'm a fan of the 3/8" skew or not yet!

    Perfect. Where can I download the template?

      Thank you. Richard Findley's Instagram post would have had a link to download the template back when the challenge was issued so I'd go and have a look there.

    that was very good how high was your tool rest set

    • @MoleValleyMaker
      @MoleValleyMaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Roy. I think the tool rest would be on centre or there about so that I'm cutting on the top quarter (if that makes sense). I've generally followed this for most skew work, i.e. a bit higher than with a gouge where you want to cut on centre. "The Skew Chisel with Allan Batty (Woodturning How-to)" is a video on TH-cam that shows this pretty well. Hope that helps. Cheers, Dave
