  • Appropriation - the ‘borrowing’ of pre-existing objects or images - has played a significant role in the history of art. In this age of the Internet, the sharing and appropriation of images has become even more pervasive. This lecture explored the history of appropriation in art and the sometimes very fine lines between appropriation, plagiarism, influence and inspiration. Differences between derivative vs. transformative work and the impacts on artist copyright were also discussed.

....If I make a portrait of Michael Jordan (basketball player), can I sell it? or I need his release form to use his image?

With works like that, you're more likely to have issues with the photographer (or entity) that actually owns the specific image you're using as reference. Does that make sense?

The quality of this video is disappointing, to say the least. . . When questions came up during the presentation, the speaker should have held them off until the end, rather than make us viewers sit through dead air, as we could not hear the questions!
At the end-when we STILL could not hear the questions-I had no choice but to stop viewing. How unprofessional your audio set-up was! The video had visual issues as well, just not as hard to tolerate.
