    I really like his scene in Inglourious Basterds. Probably the best scene in the film.

    The one-take scene in Hunger is a scene I always bring up because when I watched the film, I actually paused the movie when it cut and me and a friend turned to each other in amazement. Liam Cunningham also deserves great credit for that performance.

    The "foals" monologue from Hunger (the conversation between Fassbender and Cunningham that is mention) is some of the finest acting ever put to film.

    Sooooo glad you got Hunger in there. Why he didn’t win an Oscar for this I will never know. It’s beyond acting. Thank god for him because my other fav Daniel Day Lewis is retired. The Irish! ☘️

    So prolific and consistently great at the start of his career, and now seems to star in one big budget turkey after another. It's like he's done De Niro's career in half the time.

    I'm sure this will massively knock whatever little "credentials" i had down, but his performances in Prometheus, X-Men: First Class and Inglourious Basterds are my favourites. The former two films are riddled with problems and naff moments, but Fassbender's work in them are exceptional. His brief role in Basterds was brilliant too, second only to the well-known Landa opening scene.

    Fassbender's role in 12 Years A Slave may be supporting, but to me, it's clearly the best film on the list.

    • @jamesbastion7258
      @jamesbastion7258 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +Steven W As someone who's trying to get into the games industry, I'd say "computer game" is a way more accurate term and frankly it sounds better. Theres nothing video about games, but pretty much every game is played on a computer, a console is just a computer designed to connect to your TV easily.

    Having not yet seen Macbeth, I would have added Inglourious Basterds simply for the fact that he, as a virtual unknown at the time, came in and stole the whole film out from under everyone else. He's the only actor Tarantino didn't pair with Waltz, which is really saying something about his abilities.

  • @WAAAAAAAAAAAY
    @WAAAAAAAAAAAY 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good list......A Dangerous Method and Macbeth were both disappointing films for me - but he was still good in them.
    He was one of my favorite things about Inglorious Bastards......was in my absolute favorite scene too.
    My list would be similar but in a different order I guess. Slow West would be in my top five [along with Hunger, Shame, Inglorious and 12 Years a Slave]......Frank would still be number 1 though.
    Also, I've not seen Eden Lake or Fish Tank.....must make a note of them
    :)

  • @jd899
    @jd899 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me
    1) 12 Years a Slave
    2) Shame
    3) Hunger
    4) Frank
    5) X Men First Class he is brilliant as Magneto hunting down the Nazis in the beginning.
    I haven't seen Fish Tank, Macbeth, A Dangerous Method yet I need to catch up. One movie I don't think has been mentioned is Centurion which was an enjoyable film and Michael is good in that film as well.

    My own Top 10:
    1. Hunger
    2. Slow West
    3. Frank
    4. 12 Years A Slave
    5. Prometheus
    6. Inglourious Basterds
    7. Haywire
    8. Shame
    9. A Dangerous Method
    10. The Counselor
    Still not seen Fish Tank, stupidly (I've had a copy for years now and never sat down to it). Not seen Macbeth yet either - really wanted to see it in the cinema but couldn't convince anyone to go with me! Steve Jobs looks okay, but I'm not really feeling Fassbender as Jobs...nor am I Danny Boyle's biggest fan these days.
    Looking forward to The Light Between Oceans (Cianfrance being one of my favourite contemporary American directors), and of course his film with Terrence Malick. Interested in Assassin's Creed, if only to see what they do with the material - I think it has more potential to be the first good video game film (sorry Duncan Jones).

    I'm sorry, I have to dissent here. I've been hearing for years about how great he is, but I can't say I've ever really been much impressed by his performances. The turning point for me, the point at which I stopped taking it for granted that he was unquestionably good, was seeing him crying in his car in The Counselor. In that moment, what I saw was not a character but an actor doing a masterclass in emoting - and not in a good way. Now, for the life of me, I can't stop seeing a self-regarding actor, no matter what role he's playing. But I was and still am predisposed to like the guy and look forward to seeing him in the role that makes me sit up and stop shrugging.
