Two years ago, ELLE UK sat down with Daisy Ridley ahead of her second film in Star Wars' most recent trilogy. We chatted all things fame, working on a sequel, whether she had met co-star John Boyega's cat. Ridley, ever the good sport, did it all whilst assembling a Millennium Falcon out of lego.
So, as the trilogy draws to an end with the final film in the franchise, The Rise of Skywalker, we thought it would be fun to catch up with Ridley again, give her a new lego set to build (this time it's a Speeder Chaser) and find out what she's been up to - and whether she has any different outlooks in comparison to two years ago - since.

You can see how much she has changed. She seems so serious now. I understand why, but still she was way more sweet and happier two years ago. Lost the spark and innocence she had before.JMHO

I think she feels sad or angry when talking about star wars sometimes because of the haters, but she's a great actress and seems like a very cool person. And no one deserves hate for a character they play, it's just their job

Everyone’s saying she’s sad, but honestly I get pretty testy when I’m putting together a LEGO set, too.
When I was a kid I would sometimes cry from getting so frustrated from putto Lego together.
It's not like she was building the death star though.

She doesn't smile nearly as much in this one. And no, I'm not the guy saying, "women need to smile more." But...you can definitely tell a change in demeanor and enthusiasm between this one and the last one -- before everything went down. She tried...she and John and everyone else (cast wise) tried so hard. I don't doubt that. But she looks so soured on the experience. I legit feel for her.
I'm glad she got a nice paycheck and gets to move on. She seems less happy and more serious. The amount of unnecessary hate she must've gone through, I dont blame her for not being involved in any Social Media anymore. Still, I think she performed amazingly and really enjoyed watching the Sequel Trilogy.
The sequel trilogy is bad written, the actors are really good, her, Adam driver, Oscar, Mark, but is so incosistent, senseless when you look at its objectives that the actors involved look bad, even Mark hamill looked Boring, give this Franchise to a Christopher Nolan or a Paty Jenkins and it would shine, imagine!
@@viniciuscoxoba3842 I think the Trilogy needed to be handed to more qualified people. Fire Kathleen, and all the others at the top. Don't blame JJ Abrams or Rian Johnson. For example, look at Marvel. Marvel is owned by Disney and it is doing an amazing job. So why can't it be the same for Star Wars?
Kev marvel’s foundation was made with much more care and patience then this new SW trilogy, they started in 2008 and became a thing 4 years later with the first avengers.
With Star Wars, in 4 years the trilogy starts and overs, it’s so rushed that we don’t care anymore
@@viniciuscoxoba3842 I agree. I believe it's time we move away from the Sequel Trilogy. Maybe create movies for characters like Plagueis, Jango/Bobba Fett, or make an Old Republic Trilogy.
The only thing keeping me invested into Star Wars right now is the upcoming Kenobi show.

Honestly, Ridley’s performance in the Trilogy actually made the films watchable alongside the other actors. She did such a great performance, I’d love to work on a film with her!
Also, she can build a Millennium Falcon in five minutes?! There’s no way that’s possible! You’d have to have Lego fingers like I do. Surely it must have taken an hour or two to put that together, but a smaller set like the Speeder Chase would likely take twenty minutes. (Trust me, I know, I build a lot of Lego sets) Would love to challenge a famous person who builds Lego a lot to a speed build. Results could be quite entertaining.

Rey is Daisy’s most recognized role. The character will stay with her, for the rest of her career, as Luke has done with Mark.
And Anakin is Hayden's most recognized role
Ridley's fate might be the same as Hayden's where she doesn't get any more big roles.

I mean the fanbase is always TOXIC. Look at what they did to Hayden, heck even the child actor suffers bcs of the fanbase.

I think there were director choices I didn't agree with for the series but Daisey DEFINITELY deserved the role of Rey
You’re right. I love Rey, she is one my favourite heroines. But I think the role works or is good because of Daisy. I was thinking the other day about some of her scenes in all 3 movies and how it would have fallen flat with a less charismatic actress who exudes such natural power. If their intention from the get go was to have Rey be hidden royalty, then the casting of Daisy was pure gold.

Prequels were hated too initially. Time will come for people to appreciate the sequels too. Sure was an enjoyable ride for me, even though it took me some time to accept tlj and understand it. Thanks Daisy, you will be remembered. Still, train more next time xD

Daisy Ridley has become a movie legend. I love how she with small means (theatricality-wise) builds so much aura around herself, and believes. Extremely good!
I am not sure we will ever see her in a SW movie in the future, as the "9-story saga" is now complete. But who knows, and I would welcome her any day.

That's fine and all - what I find strange is none of the actors for Episode 4-6 talked that way about their roles. Acting was work and that's how we saw it. My problem is just how today's pop culture pushes the individual so much, when in the past it was what we were seeking and hoping for that mattered. She talks about the journey at the end, and that I like, but that isn't why people clicked this video.

She was the best part of the newer movies. Just wish we got to see more of what Rey does afterwards. Does she train future Jedi? They really need to take advantage of the fact that she still young and make more movies with Rey like they should have done with Luke, Han, and Leia.

I for one liked Daisey Ridley as Rey. I think she was a good character and was well acted. Yes, she deserves to "be here". Actually I wish nothing but the best for her and her co-stars from the Star Wars Disney Trilogy, namely Oscar Isaac and John Boyega and Adam Driver. When I first watched The Force Awakens I legit liked each of these characters and thought they had great chemistry. I feel almost kinda bad in a way for being so vocal on my thoughts of the trilogy, but honesty is always the most important thing. Preferably with tact, of course. It is none of their faults that the writing behind the trilogy was so poorly done. They were great. The story was not. I wish I could say otherwise but I cannot. Episodes 7-9 were ultimately nothing more than a rehash of episodes 4-6. That said, if any of these characters were to appear in future Star Wars stories I would be all for it. Here's to hoping next time they are in fact "new" stories! Daisy should be happy about her time in one of the biggest franchises in cinema, regardless. I think she is adorable and I wish her and Oscar and John and Adam success in their future endeavors! Josh Weston signing off!
People are saying she seems sad/angry at Star Wars but I think she’s just tired. She’s been doing this for, like, 5 years - it’s time for her to have a break, like she said. She also seems to be open to coming back to do another film at a later date, but I think she’s just been doing it for so long that instead of being extremely hype about it, she’s calm and grateful for it. Nonetheless, I always find Daisy so nice to watch and she just seems like such a nice and genuine person; I can’t wait to see what she goes on to do with her career in the future :)

Tbh rise of skywalker was not the best but the acting in it was awesome I just think that the script needed more time and better editing of the script. But I think John and Daisy did amazing in this movie

The one who destroyed the Last Jedi was Rian Johnson, not the haters.
That dudes writing just doesn't match the Star Wars original narative style.
He is like a expert on subverting expectations, so he did, he killed Snoke without even exploring all the mystery built around the character on the last movie, he killed Luke without showing us how strong of a fighter he became and he also completely ignored the mystery behind Rey's parents.
He trew in the trash what J.J Abrams made with the first movie, and because of him, J.J was almost without any choice of how to tell the story for the last movie.

Good actress let down by bad directing in TLJ. Quite clear that she isnt 100% a Star Wars fan but did her job and performed as well as can be expected. I’m exited to see how she performs with a good script behind her and a good director.

I don't get the logic behind the hate directed at her by Star Wars zealots. While it could be argued that the new trilogy served no overall purpose from a story perspective (other than to retcon & diminish what had come before), I'd say Daisy's performance was perfectly well executed in every chapter. In fact, I'd extend that to include the majority of the cast from the new trilogy. If anything, it was the lackluster plot & direction that let down an otherwise talented cast - they could each do only their best, based on what they were given!
9 years later I have no doubt she'll return for the next star wars trilogy. That's definitely happening. What I hope to happen, is to see Daisy Starr in Quentin Tarantino's final movie! Doing an American accent. I'll have my fingers crossed for that one🤞🤗

I wonder..... what if they had done the 'every three years' thing again? What if Episode 9 had taken until 2021? (Other than the obvious fact that Leia would've been a bigger issue, even for Episode 8.)
