Boldmethod Thank you for making these super helpful videos! I live in Colorado so I love seeing videos about my own state because whenever I drive in the mountains, I se these airports. Awesome channel!
Wow! Totally appreciate the real-world honesty of your videos. Totally appreciate you mentioning the fact that you two agreed you can "manage the risk". Also, GREAT production value! If you're ever in Denver again, let me know and I'll gladly give you guys a tour of our studios.
The amount of effort you have put into this video is much appreciated. The brief history of radar and transponders was a brilliant addition, and the video has been honed to perfection. The overlays are also very nice. Thank you for the video, hope to see many more! Subscribed.
To a kid whos never been on a plane in his life but is interested in aviation methods this was more than enlightening. I imagine most people just think planes fly direct lines wherever their going and thanks not only to the history lesson in this video but the amazing graphics and editing I now have a much greater understanding of VFR flying and what goes into it. It makes aviation videos more interesting and I am truly greatful for those in the aviation field who make videos like these. If I ever have a desire and ability to actually get licensed to fly Ill have a much better idea of what to expect. Thank you for the video!
This flight was filed IFR, not VFR, and followed IFR rules during flight under mostly VFR conditions (pretty scenery). Once Denver ATC took over, the final was technically IFR but wasn't the full IFR approach (with glideslope and runway lights, etc...)
You guys are gems of aviation , explaining with such patience! other CFI should follow your standards.adding the throbbing music is truly right for the drama that unfolds. yes I am a newbie.
Just discovered your channel. Very well done. I owned two different SR22s over a ten year span and thoroughly enjoyed flying them into Aspen a couple times per year. The SR22 is a fantastic machine. Your video brought back good memories. The failed transponder was a real world problem that you solved with good risk assessment and an understanding of the FARs. Very instructive. Thank you!
Wow what an excellent video! showing and explaining via charts, regulations, and video exactly what was going on at every step was awesome. As I am just starting out on my private pilot journey, videos like these are very useful. Thank you!
Great video...recently had a large area Radar outage last month east bound out of Texarkana...was issued Victor Airways in my clearance including even over flat land in VMC conditions a 5 mile west vector to TXK VOR. Shortly after departure I was cleared direct HLI (237NM east). When I asked them to confirm they replied "Oh we have your ADSB out position and altitude." For the next hour or so of my flight I got to listen to the other IFR aircraft make position and altitude reports while I monitored traffic on my Foreflight App. Early compliance with an out and in ADSB transponder was the best thing our Club has done since purchasing a Garmin 430 and Aspen 1000 several years ago.
man having that GUI tell you the steps of the departures and approaches is awesome. Also seeing the the grayed out and bold parts of the map really helps illustrate how to use them.
This was a very well put together video with overlays & explanations - probably the best that I've ever seen. Thanks for making such a high quality presentation. Cheers
Great video guys! Due to start my ATPL course this next month, great to hear clear coms and nice presentation. Textbook nav / coms! Much appreciated for my learning. Keep it up!
I am on course to become an Air Force pilot but was extremely worried that ATC slang and learning everything would be difficult but this video actually put my mind at ease a little bit. Amazing work!
Learning "ATC" slang isn't hard at all, but some of those guys accents are murder. Sometimes you wanna say to a particular ATC controller "Take the marbles out of your mouth.., dude." (I'm mostly referring to international controllers)
Try not to think about it too much before you learn. You don't really know whats gonna happen and you're just giving yourself unnecessary stress and anxiety. Wait until you start learning and then freak out if you have to LOL.
It's show us even that transponder fails, with atc monitoring, is possible fly with safety. if here in Brazil, surely would be a "no-go", we haven't a support like this, unfortunately.
Excellent video. I'm very impressed with the heads up display, the IFR chart graphics, and the ATC radar graphics. Looks like you had actual video from the radar (or movie magic?). Great video! Overall, great job!
For a second I thought the Aspen controller forgot to issue you a squawk code with your clearance, then I remembered what the video’s about 😂 great video!!!
I know some commented that they didn't like the music, but i actually enjoyed the addition a lot. What artist/track was it? Keep up the great videos, they're immensely helpful for a low time VFR pilot getting ready to transition to IFR training
Very interesting, as a breakdown can happen anytime, you should always be aware of where you are. Great job by the ATC. Also the decision process would have been different if centennial traffic was bigger. Thank you for this video, very instructive !
Always enjoy your vids and your production is getting better each time. Since my preference is to listen to the atc comm and see the navigation I found the background music on this one was distracting though. Esp around the 13:35 mark Maybe a little softer so the ATC audio is more clear, or perhaps a different style from the rhythmic base.
Good job! I did notice a loss of airspeed when leveling at 17k, In any airplane I've ever flown we actually accelerated at level off so I noticed it right away.
I'm returning to flying after a 20-year hiatus, starting to shop for a GA headset. Didn't realize buying "refurbished" is a thing.... where do I find those?
by the way Mr BOLDMETHOD could you please make a full flight with all the bell and whistles of ATC,comentary,Display overlays explanations.....you know how you do it .... the Videos are seriously good and educational...keep them coming
Does anyone knows where is the radio altimeter indicator located? I don't see any 500 ft indicator when the GPWS calls out "500" during the final approach.
Me 3 following this as inquiring minds want to know... I would have guessed maybe it was a Virb but the graphics seemed to be tied to a flightplan (watching the heading bug)
Hi how did you get the data feed from the aircraft to overlay the artificial horison, airspeed and altitude data onto the video. Is this a feature of the avionics or have you used an external device to overlay this?
Love the video, but I'm a technician by trade and really want to know what was wrong with the Transponder and what the fix entailed, it would make a great follow up video :)
In addition to being informative, super well edited production! Really impressed. Could you share the details of how you made the PFD overlay and chart displays?
Enjoyed watching this. As previously questioned, I'm curious about the overlay of the G1000. Is this using a Garmin VIRB camera and the sensor overlay? I'm also curious as to how you got the radar displays for your aircraft coming into Centennial.
Yeah, I really do. Will it be available to others? Not that I'm flying any more, can't afford it, not sure the FAA will give me back my medical anyway, but I would love to see this in other VLOGs and stuff from people using the Garmin G1000.
Having lived and flown in Colorado for 20 years, I definitely enjoyed the video. I didn't see any display of the I-PTK LOC for the back course segment of the LINDZ departure. Did I miss it?
Good question, we were using GPS nav, so we weren't actually using the PTK LOC, but departure sent us direct to the Red Table VOR before we got to that part of the LINDZ8 departure.
Boldmethod, that's the reason I asked. The LINDZ departure includes an intercept of the LOC back course. At 9:32 I hear "turning to intercept." I assume that meant the I-PKN back course, which it seems you don't have. LOC courses are one of the very few remaining things you can't substitute with GPS. Good for one of your quizzes.
Love your page, I was your Denver Center controller that day!
Thanks for helping us get home Morgan!
Boldmethod Thank you for making these super helpful videos! I live in Colorado so I love seeing videos about my own state because whenever I drive in the mountains, I se these airports. Awesome channel!
Plus I do my flight lessons at Centennial and it would be so cool if I heard you on the radio!
Love your page, I was your TH-cam viewer today!
I hope this doesn't sound too creepy, but.....you have a nice voice.
The production quality on these is absolutely top notch. Keep it up!
Matt Fojtik Indeed! Always worth the wait.
Thanks Matt!
- the music...
that lady is probably the most understandable person you can hear from ground ever!. Thanks for the vid! love it
Wow! Totally appreciate the real-world honesty of your videos. Totally appreciate you mentioning the fact that you two agreed you can "manage the risk".
Also, GREAT production value!
If you're ever in Denver again, let me know and I'll gladly give you guys a tour of our studios.
Thanks Angel!
This guy is a wizard on the radio. So smooth.
Fantastic video gentlemen!
Thanks Josh!

Thank you for the video, hope to see many more! Subscribed.
Yess!!!! Couldn't agree more!
This quality of your productions are awesome! This was by far my favorite video from you yet. Such an underrated channel~

I loved this ... Please make videos more often guys ... There is a lot to learn from you
Thanks Ishan, there's more on the way...
Amazing video. Loved the production quality, the graphics overlay, the music, the details... everything! Thank you!!

The music makes this experience like watching horror movie. I kept waiting on something bad to happen. 😁
Those beats remind me of John Carpenter's horror/sci-fi movie "The Thing". Very suspenseful.
LOVE the heads up display for the video, pretty cool! Interesting watch, thanks for sharing!
Really nicely done, professional and responsible airmanship. Keep up the great videos.
One of if not the best aviation channel.. keep it up
Seriously top notch channel. Well produced and interesting content. Keep up the awesome work!
Good to know all that information and how to overcome certain problems. Very well-made video!
Love this video. Extremely well narrated and I love the on screen PFD.
Thanks Chris!
Just added you guys today. Awesome vid. Great CRM by both of you, especially with the challenging departure out of ASE.
Quality of this production is insane.
I am on course to become an Air Force pilot but was extremely worried that ATC slang and learning everything would be difficult but this video actually put my mind at ease a little bit. Amazing work!
Learning "ATC" slang isn't hard at all, but some of those guys accents are murder. Sometimes you wanna say to a particular ATC controller "Take the marbles out of your mouth.., dude."

Haha thats hilarious, I guess im making myself more nervous about learning to fly than I should be.
Try not to think about it too much before you learn. You don't really know whats gonna happen and you're just giving yourself unnecessary stress and anxiety. Wait until you start learning and then freak out if you have to LOL.
well done..best interlacing of filming and overlays with data I have seen..keep up the great work guys.
Thanks!
Best videos out there, these helped me get my IFR certificate. Thanks!
Another great video guys. The overlay is just plain awesome. Joshua.
Thanks Joshua!
Nicely done, and so professional.
Thanks for having me along.
As always... Fantastic video!
Fantastic video w/ fantastic graphics! Well done.
It's show us even that transponder fails, with atc monitoring, is possible fly with safety. if here in Brazil, surely would be a "no-go", we haven't a support like this, unfortunately.
You do an amazing job teaching and communicating!
Excellent video. I'm very impressed with the heads up display, the IFR chart graphics, and the ATC radar graphics. Looks like you had actual video from the radar (or movie magic?). Great video! Overall, great job!
Pretty cool to see the coordination going on here between atc and you.
Thanks!
For a second I thought the Aspen controller forgot to issue you a squawk code with your clearance, then I remembered what the video’s about 😂 great video!!!
Wow really quality video guys, lot of risks in that flight and you handled it really well.
Thanks!
This is an awesome video, I don't know why anyone would downvote. Subbed!
I know some commented that they didn't like the music, but i actually enjoyed the addition a lot. What artist/track was it? Keep up the great videos, they're immensely helpful for a low time VFR pilot getting ready to transition to IFR training
Would like to know that as well.
The audio was done in-house. Glad you liked it Patrick!
Could you PLEASE provide a download. This is EXACTLY the music I want to listen to when I play Flight Sim :)
ya, if you could hook us up with a download that would be much appreciated.
I would even pay for it :)
I love how drymatic the music is. made me think you were going to crash at any moment.
Very interesting, as a breakdown can happen anytime, you should always be aware of where you are. Great job by the ATC. Also the decision process would have been different if centennial traffic was bigger. Thank you for this video, very instructive !
thanks!
This was outstanding! I really enjoyed this!
Thanks Devyn!
Amazing experience. Thank you for sharing
Great video, how did you do the HUD?
Great video! The graphics really helped too. Love the stuff you all do on the website.
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback!
grest video quality and ifr route animation
Thanks!
12:20 225Kn GS while flying straight and level ?! Damn I need the Cirrus!
Really great video. Love the heads up display view. Thanks.
Good ol kapa it’s crazy hearing the atc on the web and know you talk to them irl
very nice instructive video... love the overlay of the PFD on the screen ...
Thanks!
THIS -- was fascinating. Thanks.
Thanks Glenn!
Good job! I did notice a loss of airspeed when leveling at 17k, In any airplane I've ever flown we actually accelerated at level off so I noticed it right away.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Very informative.. Your 'tick' with the mic boom started cracking me up, tho..
fun to watch and learned a lot. thx for making this good video.
Non-radar is like playing blindfold chess with ATC, good job!
Oh wow, I just randomly sumbled upon this video, very professional content, liked, subscribed and turned on notifications :)
Wow, Flight Simulator 2017 looks amazing!
Wow really cool video! Thanks for sharing this!
love this channel, it helps a lot, appreciated mate!
Private IFR at its best. Great job guys.
Thanks!
Excellent! Very informative. Thanks.
Learned some about radio work in this video. Thanks!
Thanks Austin!
cool as a cucumber, very impressive. i use a refurbished pair of bose a10's. big fan, of your channel and the headsets :)
Thanks!
I'm returning to flying after a 20-year hiatus, starting to shop for a GA headset. Didn't realize buying "refurbished" is a thing.... where do I find those?
...and that teamwork tho! Verifying frequencies across the cockpit, cross-checks. Ahhh! I want to fly like that.
Great video as usual.
Thanks!
Very nice vid. Thanks for the time and info.
Super Work guys. I just Subscribed. ASEL IA and former ZLC Center, Approach and Tower controller.
Nice work!
I love your avionics ! Great system !
Really good video. Subscribed!
Nice video and learned something new and hopefully I will never have to use those procedures ever!
by the way Mr BOLDMETHOD could you please make a full flight with all the bell and whistles of ATC,comentary,Display overlays explanations.....you know how you do it .... the Videos are seriously good and educational...keep them coming
You make it sound easy thanks
Great video! Keep it up!
Thanks Patrick!
Does anyone knows where is the radio altimeter indicator located? I don't see any 500 ft indicator when the GPWS calls out "500" during the final approach.
I'd fly as your passenger
The 0 to 7 thing is because Octal, base 8, was in common use for computers back way when.
so informative, but how did u get the PFD to show up on the nose cam?? I
How did you get the G1000 screen overlaind onto your video. can you download the data and play it back through a simulator?
following this because I want to know haha
Following as well to know.
Me 3 following this as inquiring minds want to know... I would have guessed maybe it was a Virb but the graphics seemed to be tied to a flightplan (watching the heading bug)
joining a bandwagon on following
Also when they gave him an altitude you can see him changing it for the AP on the top right.
Hi how did you get the data feed from the aircraft to overlay the artificial horison, airspeed and altitude data onto the video. Is this a feature of the avionics or have you used an external device to overlay this?
Well done.
Love the video, but I'm a technician by trade and really want to know what was wrong with the Transponder and what the fix entailed, it would make a great follow up video :)
How did you get that PFD overlay at 08:55?
fantastic quality... this is easily fit for television! did you study video production?
Thanks!
Very nice!
Man this is awesome.
In addition to being informative, super well edited production! Really impressed. Could you share the details of how you made the PFD overlay and chart displays?
Thanks! The PFD overlay was developed by our VFX team in-house.
I didn't catch it during the video, maybe I missed it.
But whats the things you've got on your nose/nostrils?
Enjoyed watching this. As previously questioned, I'm curious about the overlay of the G1000. Is this using a Garmin VIRB camera and the sensor overlay?
I'm also curious as to how you got the radar displays for your aircraft coming into Centennial.
The overlay and radar were developed by our VFX team in-house. Hope you liked it!
Yeah, I really do. Will it be available to others? Not that I'm flying any more, can't afford it, not sure the FAA will give me back my medical anyway, but I would love to see this in other VLOGs and stuff from people using the Garmin G1000.
Is O2 required for all the flight involved with this aircraft ?
Nice going guys.
Thanks!
How did you ask ATC for permission to proceed without a transponder? Did you get a phone number to call each ATC facility?
Having lived and flown in Colorado for 20 years, I definitely enjoyed the video. I didn't see any display of the I-PTK LOC for the back course segment of the LINDZ departure. Did I miss it?

Wow! Awesome job

Whats the rotaiting speed at the cirrus?
