Hey Dave do think you’ll do some bank fishing some time soon? How bout in some of your old location, a trip down memory lane. Thank you for making these videos for us
Back in the 70’s, I was fishing in the middle of the Mississippi River at night with 2 of my buddies. It was so hot and muggy typical for St. Louis. Well long story short I caught a large eel. My Dad always said they are excellent table fare. So I brought it home and my Dad cleaned it and fried it in a cast iron skillet with hot bacon grease. We washed it down with some ice cold Michelob man it was delicious. Miss you Dad love you.
Toothpaste will dislodge the eel slime, among other things. This is the first vid I've seen where you use water and cloth to clean your hands instead of trousers. lol
The American eel is the only species of freshwater eel found in North America. It once made up over a quarter of the total fish found in many Atlantic coastal streams. Indeed, the eel is a valuable food source for larger fish and fish-eating birds, as well as people. Eels are catadromous, meaning they primarily live in rivers and estuaries, but migrate out to the ocean - the Sargasso Sea, to spawn. American eels are an elongated fish, with fairly small fins. They use their whole body to swim in undulating motions. They are covered with a mucous layer, making them very slick. Scientists believe this mucous layer reduces friction as they swim in the ocean currents and protects them from pathogens that might enter the skin
I think that mucous is full of the amino acids that fish target/prey upon. Eel is the best bait I have found. I catch some with rod and reel using worms. At the bait shop, a big eel like he showed is $8.99. I use 2 in pieces not 4 in pieces like he does. I can freeze it and have the same success with thawed eels as I do fresh.
Plenty of eels in the water where I'm at currently, it's an art around here to catch them. And the oriental have it down packed. Haven't seen it sold nowhere since the huge selling spree 10 yrs or so ago when Orientals would flock in by the hundreds to catch them. They were being sold at local stores for upwards of $35 a lb and most were being shipped overseas. Atleast it was that way in Jersey. Folks bought boats and nets just for the eels. Few years later boats and nets for sale everywhere
You the man !!! Reveal the truth, knowledge. I'm smarter than i was yesterday, becuse i didnt know what an american eel is. Lol But hes fishing in tennesse river, system? What atlantic waters connect the two?
Even the American eel is great to eat smoked grilled steamed or like I love gut in inch and half moots and straight up in a small pan with lots of butter vinegar and peper.
Great video eel definitely produce a very slick oily slime that don’t come off very easy. We always carry a little biodegradable dawn dish soap .helps clean your hands up cuts thru that grime grease eel slime.👍
Heh, when the bait is slimier than the catfish :) Try keeping a can of sand in boat if you are going to use eel more often. Should clean your hands from the slime.
Dave that eel is nasty stuff but it works. I have used it surf fishing in the gulf and shark love it. By the way....I know you love fishing in the boat but how about a late night bank trip. I always enjoyed you fishing those ling rods from the bank. I get tickled when you run backwards to set the hook. Like you I fish out of a boat but some of my fondest trips were late night bank trips. I love setting put lines with my surf rods. If you get time...how about a bank trip in the future? Love your channel and contest. Best catfish channel in my opinion. No B.S. and straight to the point.
By the way Dave.....that conversion you tried was very informative but I agree.....the gear box does not change when converting from a 50 to a 60. I have a lot of experience with setting up boats and that boat you have would do everything you want and need from a 90. Not sure how long your boat is but if it can handle a bigger motor I think that would be the way to go. A 115 would make that boat scream. I have a Xpress X19 with a 200 pro XS and it has more then enough power. The only think I regret is trying to save money by buying the Mercury. The Yamaha was about 2700.00 more and looking back I should have went with the Yamaha. My old Xpress was a H51S which was 17 feet long and it had a Yamaha oil injected 90 on it. I fished 19 years out of that boat and never had any trouble out of it. Had a fuel diaphram go out but other then that is was a tank. When I sold it for 5200.00 it had almost 1100 hours on it and the guy who bought from me had a mechanic do a compression check and all three cylinders measured the same. That mechanic told him that he had never seen one with that many hours on it have all 3 cylinders check out to be equal. That guy who bought my boat called me three years later and said that boat is still running like it is brand new. In my opinion, Yamaha is by far the most dependable motor on the market. Now if you want high performance....I will say Mercury is the king. Still wish I had got the Yamaha.
Jamming to Billy in the lowground and Ruebens train over breakfast and watching catfish Dave. Hard to beat. May have to get my D-42 out later and woodshed that tune back out.
I am super fortunate to live 50 miles from James River Tackle Co- the place where he probably bought that eel! Within 5 miles I can get the smaller ones. Eel are amazing! I’ve had the smaller ones live in the fridge for 3 weeks
man you seem to fish from a couple different boats. would love to see full shots of your set up maybe a walk through. really like the one in this video.
Definitely a awesome day out on the water for sure!!! Also a little bit of a change for you with back to back hook ups!!! That has to be awesome if you would ask me!!! Lol!! Oh and you sure are getting pretty close to hitting a hundred thousand subscribers!!! Come on everyone if you haven’t subscribed to catfish Dave please do so we can get him to the hundred thousand subscribers mark and he can get one of those really cool TH-cam plaques to put up in his office!!! He definitely deserves it for sure with all his hard work he does to get videos out every other day or every three days!!! I’ve been watching him ever since his first video he had put out and they definitely keep getting better and better!!! Remember Dave keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!
I use eel. I have the same success with fresh eel as I do freshly frozen eel. I catch them in the river and buy from the bait shop. They will live up to 3 weeks in your refrigerator. As soon as an eel dies it goes into the freezer for the next fishing trip.
We got lamprey eels in our river systems here in Oregon, the Columbia and Willamette Rivers bothhave em, make good Sturgeon bait, never thought about using it for catfish❤👍great Show Dave
Drift sock goodness Dave. I fish with a 6ft dia sock when the wing blows harder than 10mph here in Texas. It makes my 16ft aluminum Tracker boat drift really straight and at a good pace.
Dave, I live in Central Texas. When I go to Galveston to flounder fish I bring home as much shad and mullet from the salt water as I can. I catch 3 to 1 catfish on the Brazos River with salty shad vs fresh water shad
Used to catch eel often in the Wabash river and its tributaries. Many decades ago. Rarely if ever see them here now. Dams are blocking their ascent into most midwestern rivers now. Some get through, but nowhere near the numbers they used to.
It seems your carpal tunnel is getting better. Good luck with that. I would hate to see you not able to fish anymore!!! Thanks for the outstanding videos!!!
Boston Whaler Montauk 17' w/90 HP 4 stroke. You will sizzle across the river or lake, plus road trips to Saltwater locales and you got an ocean worthy boat.
They use to make wallets from eel skin!!! Have not seen one for sale for a long time but the one I had lasted a long time!!! Eels live at the bottom of water source where the catfish live!!!
@@winstonshelley2557 Winston, a few questions : do you use it fo bait? What water do you fish? And, where is the market on Classen? (I live on Council and it's been several years since I was last on Classen.
Looks like American eel, they go from fresh to salt back to fresh to spawn. Great bait!
Dave you got a lot of knowledge in cat fishing
With results like that... it may be worth the trip for more EEL BAIT !😂 AMAZING! WHO'DA THUNK IT, ON THE TENNESSEE? 😂😅😂
I live near the James River and knew the second he said he was gonna try it in TN that it would be killer!!
The ells know it!

They're going through serious decline in NC. Used to catch them all the time, rare to see any now.

Thank you for making all your videos, there the best out there. Thank you for your time on the water
Thats a fancy looking hat there Dave. I got one odgreen. Helps when it gets hot. You the man
Fantastic and awesome video today
that is some crazy fishin' right there
Our local bait store in little old WV has eels live or frozen every now and then. All we have to do is ask for something and she will order it
Sweetness indeed! I just found out that Eel slime/mucus has attraction for getting bites
I swear Dave could put a dirty sock on a hook and catch just as many fish!
I used to use shrimp in the shell. Same reason. One shrimp one fish. Wrapped on a treble hook. All 3 points.
Jamming to Billy in the lowground and Ruebens train over breakfast and watching catfish Dave. Hard to beat. May have to get my D-42 out later and woodshed that tune back out.
Catfish Dave got the train tune.
Eels are great stripper bait and very very great Flathead bait when used alive.
The drift socks work really great,do get in way a little bit.
He ain't fishin, he's catchin.
Thanks for the bluegrass music!
Dave stylin the shorts loafers and hat.
Great job Dave! I believe I’d be ordering me some of that bait 😂

I'm going to try it in Arizona. I know of a Chinese market where ell should be no problem
You definitely have hit upon something with the eel baits! Rivers in SC are full of them in the summer time
This is a hell of a show with your eel bait. Hope that is the way to spell eel. Don’t think I have ever spelled it before.
Another great video, Sir. Due to the water still being warm, maybe do an eel vs. chicken video. It would be the battle of summer baits🐳

Looks like fun awesome

Yes sir eel is the best we catch one or two in the rivers her in SC
Hey Dave,
What about hitting one of the Asian grocery stores and trying some of the stuff they offer on the river?
That's what I'm doing
It seems your carpal tunnel is getting better. Good luck with that. I would hate to see you not able to fish anymore!!! Thanks for the outstanding videos!!!
That was a bunch of horsey poop
Boston Whaler Montauk 17' w/90 HP 4 stroke. You will sizzle across the river or lake, plus road trips to Saltwater locales and you got an ocean worthy boat.
You should try some marshmellows for bait,I seen another youtuber film a guy catching nice cat on them,it would be fun to try,and cheap
I would say you better get you some more eels!!!
Need more eel Dave !
They use to make wallets from eel skin!!! Have not seen one for sale for a long time but the one I had lasted a long time!!! Eels live at the bottom of water source where the catfish live!!!

Thanks Dave I came through Knoxville on the 3rd Damn what a thunderstorm I thought about you.
That eel is some slimy stuff, It works up here sometimes for sturgeon up here on the columbia too .
And Pro tip here for handling eels: Dont use a rag, use a scotch brite pad, you're welcome.
Those are good eatin size.
Good fishing, aways like watching your videos whis Jerry Oliver ifyour ever in Waco Texas like to meet you,a d talk about fishing, thanks
I grew up using live whole eel for salt water Fishing, we use to toss the dead ones, dont recall using them for cutbait
Salt is the only way to get the slime off,, Dave
In the Tn. River I have caught lamprey eels
I can see right now you're going to have to get someone to ship you some eels regularly.
You should have saved that $900 and bought you a fishing chair and a boat cover.
He Dave do you hide catalpa worms in the spring? Have you ever saved any for the summer months?
Sorry I meant use catalpa worms.
Didn't even have to break out the cheese with an eel bite like that.
U gonna have to cast a big sinker into that boat next time he comes by close
Damn need to get some sun on them legs looks like you are riding as chicken lol 😂😂😂
Time for a catch and cook video.😮😮😮
I caught eal the Hudson river
Use a rag or sheat of newspaper to pick them up
Dave get you a big tube of cheap toothpaste,,,that’s the best hand cleaner in the world
Dave,
Have you tried to purchase eel from a local Asian food store. In some parts of Asia it is a delicacy
THANKS!
You ever use squid for bait? Stays in the hook forever too. we used to buy frozen one lb packages in the grocery store for shark bait!
you might need to import some of those eels from that bait shop on the james river...seems to be a game changer type of bait...
You can have eel sent to you overnight.Anyways great video
Where you get eel shipped over night?
Get yourself some Boraxo. It takes bad smells off your hands and it wouldn’t hurt the environment.
HEY DAVE - man, looking good in the shorts! I bet you are a little bit cooler out there without them overalls. :)
I haven’t seen a freshwater eel in 45 years.the only one I’ve ever seen. Caught him on a live crawfish in a small river(kayak/canoe type).
They are in NY rivers.
Get you a little orange Gojo !
Don't know yet if can find it around Cincinnati, but i'm sure I can order it.
Gotta try it once at least.
I haven’t seen Dave catch a flathead for awhile.
As far inland as you are, in Tennessee, where do you purchase eel?
I would like to try some here in Oklahoma.
Try the asian supermarkets.
Im in Okc and i got to the asian supermarket on Classen
@@winstonshelley2557 Winston, a few questions : do you use it fo bait? What water do you fish? And, where is the market on Classen? (I live on Council and it's been several years since I was last on Classen.
I just ate some fried catfish! Good stuff!
