When I was traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Australia the pilot would announce that he is waiting for passengers from Hong Kong to board as that is the connecting flight to Australia. If you travel on Fridays this problem would arise. If the Hong Kong flight is delayed the Australian flight would also be delayed.
We asked for next available flight ✈️ but gate is already open for next available flights so they told ticket can’t be booked in that flight. Next available flight is tomorrow morning only.

Sister, I had a very bad experience in Chennai Airport and we waited 10 hours however they didn't provide any hotels but food voucher. You were lucky you received a hotel.

You could ask them to book any airline flight to chennai. like indigo, airindia etc. they should book next available flight...

I traveled in Sri Lankan Airlines in 2004,5,6 ,, Tri chy to Kl enroute Colombo, not bad but manageable. They can improve their services.
