You could say it's really ineffective as duel weapon, since enemy can just rush you, block the shaft and finish u with slice weapon, but it's super effective in line fights, when suddenly you have now man which has twice as reach, but can also block for himself from other spears. Normally you would have to protect your spearman all the time (most noticeably in 5v5 fights). And reach is super effective overall, that's why spear was so common back then, cheap and killer. Speaking from reeanactement experience 10th century.
Why use a long reach weapon in a way that sub utilizes it's range? This looks terribly ineffective

@@velur1066 The problem is not the use of spears, it's the horrible grip they are using which drastically reduces the range and power of the weapon.
