Here's a South Sudan fun fact: They have some of the tallest people in the world, the Dinka tribe. Manute Bol, who's tied for the tallest man in NBA history, was 7 ft 7 inches and was born in Turalei in what is now South Sudan. The NBA goes to South Sudan to scout potential players specifically for their height. But Manute's done more than just basketball. Manute was an activist who supported the SPLA's (now the South Sudanese military) cause for independence from Sudan. He marched from the Capitol in DC to the UN in NYC for three weeks to spread awareness back in 2006. Manute was labeled an American spy by the Sudan government after the US did a missile strike in 1998 but made it out of Sudan to Egypt in 2001 before finally reaching the US as refugees in 2002.
Woah that's actually so crazy. Makes me wonder how many people from South Sudan the NBA ends up taking to compete.

I don't blame Kieran for thinking Vichy France and Finland were part of the Axis, and kudos to Kieran for knowing Vichy France was a thing even if it wasn't the right answer. Despite pressure from their own citizens (and some Germans), Vichy France never joined the Axis but remained a collaborationist regime. While Finland fought against the Soviets during the Winter War and aligned with the Germans, they too never formally joined the Axis. Though Germans were stationed there in the northern part. But Austria doesn't count as part of the Axis because well...Anschluss happened in 1938.
