  • In this video I discuss an easy way to get a threaded barrel for you 10/22.
    Dear TH-cam: I don't make any mods to the firearm or show any manipulation of the firearm at all. I just discuss the thread adapter and its pros and cons.

    Put (1) layer of HVAC duct work aluminum tape from home despot around the front sight. Slide tacticool adapter on. Blue thread locker the set screws. Trim tape with razor blade. Check alignment with McMaster Carr drill rod #8893k191

    Alignment rod, dimple set screws,two part epoxy. I also tapered the shoulder 45 degrees. Baked on a finish. No issues.

    I recommend an alignment rod, down the barrel, to avoid any barrel strikes.

    Good Job on explaining how to align it. Stay on top of the alignment of the adapter I had one like yours I ended up literally lock tightening to the barrel not just the set screws and in the end I ended up getting a threaded barrel for it. Basically the barrel is hard enough the set screws really dont get a good grip it least ways on mine they wouldn't. I also have had bad experiences trying to keep brakes attached that way. I am sure you are going to do it. But for others any thread adapter even ones that come with the can always make sure it is correctly Aligned. Anytime you are putting it on a direct threaded barrel/Gun for the first time make sure it is aligned.
    Food for thought. Speaking from experience just merely mentioning the can screws on the end of the barrel could get your video banned.

      Yeah, I don't love the threaded adapter... but my wallet sure did. One day I will get a threaded barrel for my 10/22, but I am spending my money on other gun stuff for now. Oh... and my furnace that went out... :/
      As far as the TH-cam banning me for the threads, I figure one day I will get banned, and maybe even fired from my job for believing freedom and in this country. But others were willing to die for it so the least I can do is get as close the line as possible.

    Just taking a look at these adaptors. From a machinist point of view I would recommend #1 drill and tap 2 more setscrew holes at around 10 oclock and 2 oclock . #2 I am sure there is a ,22 (5.6mm) rod available to use as a line up guide. # 3 Although I have not tried them on this application I would suspect that a Brass Tipped set screw would hold better as they conform to the shape better. If you are willing to commit to leaving this adapter in place then you could "drill" a dimple into the barrel and use a cone nosed set screw. And of course us lock tight. As always if you don't know what your doing then have someone else do it for you or just go buy a new barrel. JMHOYMV

      Yes, all of that would be a good idea. These adapters really aren't great as is. Good enough for those of us that don't want to commit to cost of a threaded barrel, but not great. Your suggestions are a good idea.

    Those adapters with the cutout slot in them only have 3 screws, and the ones on either side are too close to the center to effectively center the adapter without shimming the upper portion. If the screws on the side were higher up, it would better facilitate centering the adapter. Since the barrel tapers and the tolerances are too loose with these usually, the barrel end sits loose also making it near impossible to maintain true alignment.
    Basically a crap shoot!

      Yeah pretty much. It is worth saving up the money and getting a threaded barrel.

    1. Buy a backpacker stock so the barrel free floats and rids you of the barrel band. 2. Buy a barrel threader and do it yourself or pay $179 for a new threaded barrel and install yourself.

      DIY barrel threading? I have never heard of that before. I am going to have to look into that. It sounds hard to get right.

    i bought an adapter for my ruger mark iii 22/45 bull barrel i put my suppressor on it worked only still louder than a threaded barrel it also had large amount of blow back where the it is attached to the barrel....

      @TheLarkinsLair  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True, the adapter doesn't seal perfectly and after shooting a lot you can even see some carbon leaching through the seams. between he adapter and the barrel.

    After having it for awhile would you recommend this set up?

    • @TheLarkinsLair
      @TheLarkinsLair  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly it is ok. I think your better off getting it genuinely threaded if you are going to be hiking around the mountains with it, but I have over 1K rounds through it with this set up and I would do it again. You just have to be SUPER sure that it is centered so you don't get baffle strikes.

    Is the thread on top of your ruger adapter CW or CCW and what is the size(millimeters) of the ruger thread alone?

    • @TheLarkinsLair
      @TheLarkinsLair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Standard CW threads. 1/2x28 thread pitch.

      It's sad to hunt we have to go deaf. Other countries they are as legal as the firearm without being extorted or put in jail by the government. I'm all for law and order in this piece of shit world we live in. To a point. People will use anything to kill someone if that's what they really have their mind set on. I have a drawer full of weapons (forks) should we ban them like the UK with knives? Pay a 200 dollar tax stamp so you can have a knife with your steak.
