Thanks for the nice video! It was lovely. Just a pair of questions, do they just offer you a pair of slippers? I thought they'd give you something else for Gran Class! Second question is why there isn't drink service in Joetsu-Shinkansen? Maybe because it's too early? Thanks!

In fact, there are two types of Gran Class service.
One is full service including light meal and free drinks, the other is no service.
Short distance Shinkansen like ‘Toki’ doesn’t have full service.

Wish we had this in Australia, makes me laugh that we don't, there is numerous records of Japanese tourists trying to travel large distances on bike here without realising how big the distances actually are, the Shinkansen would make easy work of these distances and really connect our country in ways some people couldn't imagine.

On a sidenote, as amazing and developed Japan is, I find that Japanese urban areas are like big shapeless colorless monstrosities. I know buildings have a short lifespan in Japan, but a little architectural coordination would be welcome!

I mean if it's business travel your company will subsidize your train ticket just like they pay for airline tickets but if it's for your daily commute from home to work. then no. It wouldn't make sense to have a job 2 1/2 hours away from home (4+ hours drive).

Use "first" instead of "firstly" - much better grammar, i.e., Regarding first vs firstly, most situations call for "first" as it itself is an adverb. "First" is a flat adverb meaning it takes the same form as its adjective pair, but while some flat adverbs mean the same as their "-ly" versions (the sun shone bright/brightly), "first" and "firstly" have diverged slightly and are not always interchangeable.
