You know Kabir, I'm a peaceful person, but my 1st reaction to some of these guys was that I wouldn't be upset if someone threw them into a woodchipper. I'm glad they are going to be kept away from the public for the rest of their lives. They are truly scary.

My personal belief is that a lot of these are caused by broken families. If young men don't have a family at home they'll find one on the street, Gangs become their brothers and sisters, the judge becomes their father and prison is home.

This is a very fascinating video Kabir. I think I may know why there are lots of people in gangs and committing heinous acts such as these.
"A recent study was done on the increase in violent gang activity. In almost every case, each gang member had a similar attribute. Runaways, dropouts, kids on drugs, and seems in prison. That attribute is that most of them came from a fatherless home. To put it another way, when a father's absence, kids are five times more likely to commit suicide and abuse drugs, 20 times more likely to wind up in prison."
Fathers truly are the foundation of the family, and without them to nurture them, more often than not, the child is lost to gangs and a life of crime.

I live in a small town, on the shores of Lake Ontario, a long way from you! About and one hour and a quarter miles from Toronto (which is the capital of Ontario), going east on our Famous Highway, the Trans Canada. To make it easier for the provincial Police and us Canucks, they named it the 401, which only a small part of the Trans Canada Highway. The wifi here is terrible!! I can only get a couple of my apps. I will never complain as shitty wifi is better then no wifi. I am using an Apple IPad Pro!! I hope we can speak more but I am no professional on anything tecky!!! I have a degree in early childhood education and we read some of those studies. You know we also read that there has been a positive effect on children without a male role model to have a male teacher especially in early childhood but it's a field men rarely go in.

Gangs are a weird thing especially now with social media. In the past you were quite literally born and groomed into a gang, you grew up on a block where everyone was banging the same thing and was ready for you to do the same. Nowadays it’s more schools and overall areas instead of blocks and neighborhoods so you have kids from a middle area going out of there way to hang in the worst parts of town because that’s where the friends are.

I think growing up without strong examples of positive and constructive fathers or mentors has a lot to do with kids joining gangs. Also, some may reason that if they join a gang, they and their families won't be targets. I don't know if the "Scared Straight" programs had much effect on troubled youth here in the states.

Blaming the actions of those who become involved in these types of activities on the lack of a father figure requires you to ignore the fact that there are many more that come from fatherless homes that do NOT get involved in gang activities. There are many things that put people on these paths and each person has a unique set of circumstances.

  • @dianecomly6132
    @dianecomly6132 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Most gang members don't expect to live past 25, come from fatherless homes, and were not taught impulse control. Also, peer pressure, and quest to be seen as the toughest man on the street begets heinous actions.
Yes, evil is out there, Kabir. I wonder how police, ER docs and nurses, detectives, etc
raise kids knowing what's really out there.

I think gangs are often in very poor and dangerous areas. We learn more and more that trauma / violence and poverty are generationaly/ passed down. Its easy to say someone wants easy money or is just a bad person. Im sure there are those people also. But we cannot forget the circumstances people grow up in and live in. Or the lack of possibilities they have in life, the unfairness, anger and hopelesness entire communities feel, everywehre around the world. I think looking in to it deeper and seeing this not just as local problems a society can and must change to give all the same chances and break these cycles. ☮❤

People that offend over and over shouldn't really be surprised when they get a harsh sentence. Especially since by the time you get to sentencing, you have already been found guilty.

  • @jaycooper2812

You asked how the criminal found out the identities of witnesses and killed them. In South Africa as well as other countries the names of prosecution witnesses are required to be given to the defendant's attorneys so the lawyers can prepare an adequate defense. In the United States if information is withheld from the defense it can result in a mistrial and the defendant can walk away with no penalty. The prosecution can also be sentenced to prison for misconduct for not giving all information to the defense attorneys. In the South Africa case the attorney probably give the information to the criminal who used the info to, ill the witnesses.

No fathers in the home, mothers working 2 jobs, protection in a neighborhood that has gangs, too much unstructured time on their hands. Combine any 2-3 of those things and gang culture thrives. Fix #1 so you don't have #2 and #4 and the likelihood of your kid going into a gang decreases. Strong, involved (non gangmember) fathers is the key. Let your kid know that he/she has more to fear from you, get them involved in after school activities and do your best to be there at the activities and at home at night, If you can be. Raising kids is hard work and we're all just doing our best, but it's worth it. Also, let them know that you love them. If my son ever came home with a neck tattoo, I'll assume that he's already making bad choices.

From what I understand joining a gang is like joining a family, but they must be beaten down by other members of the gang they jion...if the survive the beating which is over seen by a high ranking member of the gang...or sometimes the gang decides they need a fresh baby face to be part of the gang and coerce the Newby into going through the ritual beatdown in order to save either younger siblings, or even their parents, or grandparents from such a beatdown. But mostly it is from children from broke households...single parent families.

Don’t try and understand other people’s crazy. It’s a exercise in futility. I just see them as immature adult children who react violently when they want something and don’t get it or want to do something and don’t get their way. Since they are unable or unwilling to grow up they will always have to held in day care.
