  • Disclaimer - Although this is titled "Northumberland 250" we don't actually reach the "Land of Dark Skies" until episode 2! This first episode covers the journey up to Northumberland taking in the delights of Lincoln - a chance meeting with Richard (one of our subscribers) and an expert on Lincoln Castle, who kindly took time out to talk to us and gave us some great tips on what to see. It was a pleasure to meet you and hope you have many more Goldwing adventures with Stephanie! The epic Lincoln Cathedral and quirky accommodation. Lincoln was a real surprise and well worth a visit. Day 2 saw us head further North crossing the Humber Bridge, swinging by Scarborough for some nostalgic moments for Sue, and finally on to the historic port town of Whitby where we stay in the ghostly Bagdale Hall, go on the hunt for Dracula and the "Best fish and chips in Britain". Stay tuned to see if we find them! If you enjoy our little tour please give us a THUMBS UP, share and also please give us your thoughts on where you can find the BEST fish and chips in the comments below! Thanks for tuning in and supporting our channel.
    Accommodation: Lincoln -The Old Palace Lodge - £96 (Booking.com) Quite pricey but the location made it worthwhile. Whitby - Bagdale Hall Annexe - £149. Very expensive but an excellent location and the only accommodation available in peak summer that had parking, etc.
    The Route: Lincoln - RAF Scampton - Humber Bridge - Driffield - Scarborough - Robin Hood's Bay - Whitby

    Thanks Brian and Sue for this great video. Also thank you for visiting our home of Lincoln and meeting our friend Richard at the castle. We have ridden all the roads and places contained within this episode of your tour, and have also toured Northumberland a couple of times, so looking forward to the next chapters. I can confirm the Humber Bridge to be long as I completed the half marathon in 2008, having run across it twice!! Ride safe, Andy.

    I used to live near the Lincolnshire border with Norfolk and would often ride past Lincoln to get elsewhere, now as so often happens after watching one of your films I find it a place on the "must visit" list. If you ever go that way again try riding over the Lincolnshire wolds as lovely roads and countryside.
    I can only echo the others in complementing you guys in the quality of your filming and editing, great soundtrack too! love the blues/rock vibe, looking forward to ep2.

    So happy to see this new series. I think we figured out that we love your videos so much because what’s important to you on tour is also what’s important to us: curvy roads with natural beauty, historical sight-seeing, a good beer/wine, good food, a comfy bed, and friendly hosts. (And perhaps a shared dislike of crowds of tourists.) thanks again.

    Another great Blog, I spent a lot of time in that neck of the woods, my Mother originated from Stockton on Tees, and as a kid we always went to visit relatives. When my Father died when I was 10, my mother was thinking of moving us back there. We spent the whole the summer holidays there, and of course visited Whitby and Scarborough often. The move never came off, I never knew why, but we stayed in Cambridge. Then after Army Boy service, Catterick was my first adult posting, and it was great for me, I had a bike by then, and rides were Wonderful. That's a long winded way of saying, this has brought back a lot of happy memories for me. Can't wait for the next one. It makes my week when your vids come out. SO HURRY UP😉😉😜

    The quality and research you put into your vids just gets better and puts our modest efforts to shame. Lincoln brings back lots of great memories for us, we were so proud to watch our son graduate from Lincoln University a few years ago with the ceremony in the cathedral.
    Whitby is nice but totally packed last time we visited.

      @midlifemotorcyclediaries  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks very much Richard! Always appreciate a fellow motovlogger’s comments 👍 we really look forward to your uploads too - I think we’re both getting better 😀! It must have been very special seeing the graduation in the cathedral - it’s a stunning stunning place and Lincoln itself was a real eye opener!😀👍 - Whitby would have been lovely if it hadn’t have been so busy 🙁. Thanks again for watching 😀

    Hi Guys, it was great to meet you at the Castle and to be able to give you a few pointers for your visit. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your visit to Lincoln. Your explanation of the Magna Carta and the Victorian Separate System prison is spot on. You have perfectly encapsulated the quaint beauty and the appeal of Lincoln. Keep up the great work with all of your video blogs which are hugely enjoyable and really inspiring to those of us who like to get out and about.

    As ever I enjoyed your video and soaked in the history narration. Seems wherever you go now that's attractive to tourists there's just too much traffic, people and their dogs. Finding a good 'chippy' as we called them oop north is becoming increasingly difficult, seems it's mostly about fleecing the punters in these resorts, anyway I enjoyed the ride with you and look forward to your next ones, ride safe.

    • @midlifemotorcyclediaries
      @midlifemotorcyclediaries  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Lee! You’re absolutely right about too much traffic 🙁 but I suppose it’s worse going in peak season. The best ever chippy was when I was a kid in Blackburn 👍😀! It used to be a cheap way of eating but not anymore 💰💰😀!

    Eventually got round to watching this. YAY, my old stomping ground ! I grew up on a farm in Foston on the Wolds, a little village halfway between Driffield and Bridlington, went to school in Driffield, moved to Hull when I got married. Coast road from Hull to Whitby, up to Carlisle then back over Yorkshire moors was a regular ride out.

    Thouraly enjoyed riding with you both around my County, we live just a few minutes from Lincoln City , those cobbles are deadly when wet as many a cyclist will tell you, and probably motorcyclist also, plenty of hidden jams to dig out , especially the hidden Lincoln Imp in the Cathedral.
    We rode along Scarborough sea front only two weeks ago in superb weather, did you miss Oliver’s Mount?
    Lincoln has some excellent Chippies, my treat if you come this way again.
    Great video all round, nice not to be watching bike reviews and racing around, keep up the good work.
    All the best to you both, stay safe and ride safe?

    Pam and I were in York three years ago and we had time for one more day trip. Whitby or Edinburgh? We took the train to Edinburgh. I had a rotten cold, so I didn’t get to enjoy it as much as I would have liked. We plan to return and stay longer. Perhaps we can do a day trip to Whitby. I was born on Galveston Island, Texas, and grew up surfing. So the coast with fresh seafood appeals to me. The A1 reminds me of Houston traffic. It’s always gridlocked when I have to drive through there to visit family in Galveston. I hate it. In Wyoming where I now live, if there are 7 cars on the highway 90, it’s a traffic jam.
