I needed this video .I am first generation and sometimes we internalize our struggles and play it cool at home so our parents won’t worry. When I arrived to my college I felt that I didn’t belong there .Luckily I have found a supporting community

I'm going to be the first college graduate in my family at 28 years old next year. The road has been a long difficult one, going to school while working construction full time but my immigrant parents from Mexico will be so proud. Cant wait!

This was an eye opener. I’m a Boomer who grew up assuming I’d go, and my parents financed me. I’m proud of you all! 💪🏾💪🏼💪🏽

Please don't! Anything good is worth doing! Ask for help! Relax and learn to like school.

You got this. I'm going to be real with you. It's hard as hell. Fuckin hard. But you do what you gotta do. In my case, I had to give up everything. I stopped playing guitar, recording music, hanging out with friends. I had no life except school, work, and taking care of my family. I had to dedicate myself 100% to school. There was no time to slack off. At the end, it was worth it. I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science. I have a job and able to give my family an awesome life. If I can do it with a child, wife, work and school, you can do it too! Just figure out what you need to do to succeed.

Ask for help, you'll feel like quitting four or five times...it's when you're lost that you feel that way. When you ask for help you'll realize how many people have been in your shoes and want to help

Judy Baltazar I did ask for help. My college is a PWI (predominantly white institution) and they said that they do not know how to help me, I’m the 2% diversity and I’m supposed to make it on my own. My room mate and I are both latinas and we feel like we can not make it here. I used to picture myself as a successful attorney but now, I don’t even see myself leaving this campus being proud of myself

Jennifer Bates how am I supposed to do that? I have a 4.0 gpa as of right now, I’m technically succeeding but I feel like I’m failing. My parents aren’t proud, my family doesn’t talk to me. I am a leader on campus, I represent that class of 2023 in student government, I get hated on for that. I just don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing in order to feel proud of myself or at least, happy

Sometimes it's alianating because most people don't look like you (i go to a predometly white university). The best advice I can give is get close to at least 1 person each year, be in the classroom, be it your advisor, professor, or your friend's professor. Creating a relationship with people makes the experience so much better. You can always go vack for advice or for that extra push you need

Well even so, they are young and they will one day. Aside from that most Latinos like myself, don’t come from privileged backgrounds. It’s hard to relate when you haven’t experience what most of us do. We don’t have parents who can support us and many of us have parents who immigrated here. It’s hard to afford a house, a car, even to invest when when as an immigrant ,you don’t understand the system; you come broke. So being empathetic is sure a virtue.
