Hello everyone!! Thank you for your support with this video. In the 4 years it has been up, it has become the most viewed video regarding this machine. I am hoping to monetize the channel in the future but in the meantime, you can show your support by purchasing anything needed for your own maintenance from one of the Amazon links below. I will receive a portion of any items sold. I hope to publish more maintenance videos soon. Thanks again.
I've just received my GC1723EB and while I'm a long way from the 50 maintenance, I like to learn things in advance of actually needing them. This video is perfect in every way. The part list you provide is a MAJOR help to me. I've created my list over at Amazon so when I can order them over time as I lead up to the 50 hour mark. Thank you Sir for your time filming and uploading this VERY helpful video.
Who are the 2 jerks who gave this thumbs down....it really does not get better than this ..I am coming p on 50 hours on mine pretty soon, so I am really glad I came across this....nice job with it...3 thumbs up..
First, thank you for the video. It was one of the big factors in why I purchased a 1723e because it made me feel comfortable with self maintenance of these basic items. The manual for my GC1723e calls for changing the hydraulic fluid/fliter annually or every 250 hours and changing the front axle fluid and fuel filter at every 2 years or 500 hrs. The 50 hr service does call for checking and adjusting the toe in too. Your manual may be different, but I wanted to note the differences. The manual number I have is ACW7152790 edition from Oct 2018 even though I have a tractor manufactured in March of 2020. I've looked into the AGCO part prices and in my area they are very reasonable, so I see no reason to risk warranty issues by using aftermarket fluids and filters. AGCO also now offers a powertrain warranty extension of 5 more years for a total of 10 years and the cost of this is only $500, so I'll only be using ACGO parts for these reasons. Not saying you are wrong, but I wanted to mention these points of consideration for anyone who may be looking at the Massey.
I have been looking for where in my manual it says to change the hydraulic oil & filter at 50 hours and I can't find it. My GC1723E is also a 2020 model and I have the same manual as you do. Maybe MF decided that it wasn't necessary to change it at 50 hours. Mine only shows to change the engine oil and filter at 50 hours. I am just going to do what the manual says to do. I do appreciate the video though because sooner or later this all has to be done.
@@paulwelch6235 There are also a bunch of torque checks to do at 50 hours too. I'm going to go through this on my tractor soon and hope to have a video on the topic since I haven't seen torque checks covered in any other videos.
@@Redneck_Ed Yes, and I check the bolts on my tractor once a month. There are lines on the bolts and wheel but they never have lined up since I got my tractor. I haven't ever had a lug bolt get loose but I still check them. I really do enjoy your videos. Not many videos out there that are specifically for the GC1723E tractor. I love mine. It surprises me what this small tractor can do.
@Phil Ward I believe that Massey revised their maintenance schedule for these tractors around 2021. I'm at 56 hours and I think all I have to change is the engine oil and maybe the hydro fluid. I do not think it mentions front axle oil or fuel filters.
I have the 1835EH and it calls for the transmission fluid change for both Manual and Hydro. Not sure what version the book is, but we got ours in 2021. I'm sitting at 54 hours and haven't had the time to do the service. What's odd, is that the Parts guy at the dealer said the transmission would be scheduled at 750 HRS. My book says 50 HRs and then every 200 HRs.
Just bought one of these and getting it delivered in a couple days. This video was very helpful. Very thorough in explaining everything for the 50 hour service, thank you
Great video!!! 👍🏻 Got my GC1725MB a little over a month ago. 50 Hour maintenance will be here before I know it. You did a fantastic job with this video. 👏 Keep up the great work! Thanks for the guidance, I'm completely new to the ownership of a tractor and this video will be super helpful @50 hrs!
Thank you for taking the time to prepare this video. This is my first tractor and being a DIYer I wanted to tackle the maintenance myself. I had a lot of trepidation about trying to do it but after your video I am ready to go!
Manual says hydraulic fluid doesn't need to be changed until 250 hours, and it also does not say to change the front axle fluid at 50 hours OR change the fuel filter OR to clean the suction filter !! Those things are done at the 250 or the 500 hour mark.
Follow up: So the manual does say to change the hydro oil every 250 hours, OR yearly. However, engine oil gets dirty from engine combustion, and it can't be helped. You run the motor, you dirty the engine oil. Hydro oil does not pickup any contamination from the engine, it degrades primarily due to heat. In other words, long hours of hard work. And it takes a long time to break down modern synthetic hydro oil. Mine looks almost clear at 54 hours whereas the engine oil is pitch black. But by the book, in order to maintain the warrantee you would be required to change the hydro oil, REGARDLESS of operational hours (if you can believe that) once a year.
About greasing: you should be greasing the various pivot points (and on some implements, bearings) a lot more often than every 50 hours. Check with your manuals, different grease points have different schedules and different grease types needed. Also, if switching from one grease to another be sure that they are compatible; or disassemble the joint and clean all the old grease out with a solvent. If incompatible greases are mixed, the lubricant can come out of solution and the result is severe wear; almost as bad as a dry joint.
If you turn the deck height dial to the highest setting it will keep your mower deck arms up to ensure they don’t hit anything low while using the 3 point hitch
As a rule of thumb I change my oil every 50 hours a little over kill but my way of thinking is cleaner oil is better than dirty oil. I just use 15/40 rotella synthetic blend
Certainly not a bad train of thought. The oil was rather inexpensive since you are not dealing with a large engine. I think I changed the oil ion my yearly. Every spring.
Returning the loader and/or backhoe to “home” position does NOT empty our ALL of the fluid in the rams; because they are double acting. Fully retracting the rams (which, on the backhoe, is not the “home” position) will, however, get you as close as possible to being empty without actually disassembling it and blowing everything out with an air compressor (including cycling the rams in both directions several times while inverting them). As mentioned in my other comment, I’m going to do the hydraulic fluid again at 70 hours to try to flush out any grit that might be hiding in the rams, etc.
Removing the filter cover plate on the main hydraulic filter is not strictly necessary if you have a filter socket that can fit in there. Watch out if you do remove it though; the bolts are not high-strength and one of them snapped when it was being reinstalled (No, I wasn’t the gorilla with the ratchet in this case). I’m going to have to get under there with an easy-out and swap the bolts out with something a little bit stronger.

Got my fluids from Amazon. I believe the hydraulic fluid was close to 3 gallons. I also supplied a link to the fluid that I used. If you are unsure, I recommend checking the service manual. Happy to help!! When I went to do my 50 hour service, I found that there was not an easy well laid out video on youtube. Thought I would help owners by making my own!!
What kind of hydraulic fluid did you use? I can just make out the STP logo, not much else. The manual states Permatran 821XL for that, as well as the front axle. Do you know if the Triax stuff would be compatible for the transmission too? The dealer is a long ride, trying to find easier options.
@@jackjohnson3603 I'm sorry to hear that. There is a yellow plug on the rear of the transmission (back of the tractor). This is the fill port. It's the only fill port on the rear of the machine. Very difficult to miss. If you still can't find it, a simple google search should show you its location. If you continue to struggle, I recommend having an authorized dealer perform the maintenance. Hope this helps, good luck.
It also does not say to change the front axle fluid at 50 hours, or change the fuel filter or to clean the suction filter. Those things are done at the 250 or the 500 hour mark. Glad I read my manual before I wasted a bunch of time and money on needless maintenance .
Hydraulic filter seems in a vulnerable place for damage. The plastic fan is in a bad place ahead of the rear axle. Wish they would change them, but your video was clear, concise instructions. Good job.
Wow! I think my bill was $207 today 10/19/2022. 5 gal. Hydraulic oil and filter, 1 gal. oil and filter, air filter and fuel filter. I did it myself. Man, that rear tire is heavy!!
Why would you buy a expensive piece of equipment and then use aftermarket parts and fluids? These machines are designed and tested to last using specific fluids and filters. Save a quarter now but pay for it in the long run
I researched all of my fluids and bought from reputable brands. I thought it was a good decision at the time. In the end you always have to do your research and make a decision that you are comfortable with.
Oh, and one other thing: now, I realize that at the moment they’re kinda hard to come by; but you really should be wearing rubber gloves while handling parts that are covered in oil, diesel, or hydraulic fluid.

Very difficult to miss. If you still can't find it, a simple google search should show you its location. If you continue to struggle, I recommend having an authorized dealer perform the maintenance. Hope this helps, good luck.
How many hours can these things last???
Depends on how you care for them.
Manual says hydraulic fluid doesn't need to be changed until 250 hours.
I went off what my dealership that sold me the tractor recommended that I do.
Good job.
Took mine to dealership for its 50 hr service. $650 later. My butt hurt after that.
😆🤣😆 your funny, this is a man not a little girl.
@@TheDomain16 - guess what? Real manly men get cancer from that stuff too! It’s also not so great for your liver, brain, etc...
Bingo!
gloves dude , everything you are handling is considered very carcinogenic, this should be a no brainer! Either way, good video and very informational.
Sorry, but I grew up not using gloves. Hope the video helps.
