Huh, so i'm in California and my zip begins with a 9. I'm assuming out in Maine or somewhere it would start with a 0. Wild, I never knew that. Makes total sense.
Tip for Canada, when you see "Ch MacDonald Rd" it means "Chemin MacDonald Road". It's a common way of being bilingual without repeating the whole name twice. So you'll likely be around Quebec, e.g. Ottawa or New Brunswick which are the major bilingual areas.
Better tip: If you see something like that on a road sign and it's green, it's New Brunswick (only officially bilingual province, so all the road signs have to use that format). In Ontario you only find signs like that around Ottawa, and they're blue. Quebec doesn't have English.
I once cycled from Perth to Broome and the view was basically identical to this Australian road in the video for weeks. Add in the ever-present bushflies that swarm you the second you stop moving and it wasn't a pleasant experience. It's the only time in life I genuinely think I've felt myself starting to go mad.
@@Geo_Charlie Nah, I happened to be in Perth in June so it was pretty much winter when off. A lot nicer than the winter we get in the UK that's for sure!

In California, the state DOT (which manages the state highways) goes by the name "Caltrans." Rather than the letters "D.O.T.", their logo is a stylized "CT".
In Australia our rural road names are conjunctions of the two towns that the road is between, might be useful for finding towns on the map in the future. That way if you recognise half of the road name you can look for the more popular town.
first few seconds of the video he sees a sign that points to Lincoln and some other town. he moves on to find "Springfield, ME" and zooms in on Maine. i could SEE Lincoln on the map as he zooms in and IM SCREAMING he could've gotten that in 30 seconds
Topsfield was the other town and I saw both Lincoln and Topsfield on the map when he was scanning around Springfield. The thing that confused me is there's also a Topsfield, Mass. But the ME all over the place made it obvious it was Maine.
Have done that stretch of the Gt Northern between Perth and various mines in the Pilbara for work. It looks just like what he was looking at for about 10 of the 14 hour drive. He was lucky to find a junction lol.
How are you not bitter about going in the wrong direction for several minutes, and instandly after going back to the start and turning around finding those signs. I would be at least a tiny bit shaken. I respect you, MAN. You hear me? I RESPECT YOU! :')

Hey! Just a tip on Canadian Geoguesser from a Canadian. New Brunswick is special because all the signs you went past are in English and French and it is the only bilingual province of Canada. So anytime you see Rd (Road) & Ch (chemain) you know you're in New Brunswick
New Brunswick is bilingual French and English, so the road signs will often abbreviate "road" and "chemin" (French for road) as Rd and Ch, respectively, ie. "Ch MacDonald Rd" at 22:25
Me as a Dutchie "Scheepvaartmuseum, Don't think we're in Amsterdam based on that stuff" Me: "Ah bloody hell mate, NEMO is a very well known museum in Amsterdam, Artis in the most famous zoo of The Netherlands, in Amsterdam, Anne Frank was from Amsterdam AAAHHHH"
A bit late but.. for the New Brunswick one. One street sign said a street name with both “rd (road) and Ch (chemin)” English and French respectively. The only place that does this, normally, is New Brunswick as they are bilingual and the flag you saw may have been the Acadian flag. For future reference!
Ah was screaming at the Amsterdam one when you were saying it couldn't be Amsterdam. Spotted the Artis Zoo sign pretty quickly and I've been there myself. It's a really awesome zoo actually!
If you're ever in the US you can look for signs along highways that will have the route number. Sometimes they will have the shape of the state behind the number so you can figure out which state you're in.
17:29 - some famous Amsterdam landmarks on those signs that are worth remembering Tom: Nemo is the Science Museum, and Artis the zoo of Amsterdam. Scheepvaartmuseum means maritime museum and is also a well known Amsterdam landmark.
13:07 Perito Moreno is a total South American landmark, that a geography nerd should know. Yesterday I saw a player erring by a thousand kilometers for not knowing the name of America's tallest mountain.
Helpful Canadian hint: New Brunswick is Canada's only fully-bilingual province, so the bilingual road signs point in that direction. There are bilingual signs in parts of other provinces, so it's not a perfect clue, just a hint.
I never know any locations you get landed in, but I was screaming (in my head!) when you landed in Amsterdam! It's weird seeing somewhere you instantly recognise.
It was the abbreviation that gave him pause...he rattled off Minnesota and then Massachusetts. He knows the US states (at least, fairly well), whereas I only can name a handful of UK/English counties.
With the right zoom level on google maps you can see the abbreviations of the states in the US. Never thought I'd be able to give advice to the geoguessr king :D
Very frustrating watching sometimes when in the first round, you spot the sign saying Topfield, you get the right state, find the right town but miss the next town along which was Topfield. Could have been so much quicker. Funny, you get some clues which are so hard to spot but then miss some really obvious ones. Weird how different brains work and how we miss stuff. Part of the reason I enjoy watching your vids because it makes us all better from seeing mistakes and also getting tips on the clues we miss.
Can I just take a moment to praise you for your foreign pronunciations? Obviously I can only judge you on the Dutch language, but you do it super well. You actually pronounce it very accurately. Also quite funny how you know the Netherlands better than I do, despite me living here for nearly 25 years. Keep it up, Tom!
The Red Sox are the most northeast MLB team, so it's not surprising that Maine would be supporting them. They are basically the de facto New England team. Also, Maine was at one point part of Massachusetts.
You have way more patience than I do, I would’ve went the other way 33 miles earlier in Australia. Seems GeoGuessr always has clues behind you first and foremost.
Whenever you see "CH. someroadnameevenifit'senglish RD". it's almost always in New Brunswick because it's the only officially bilingual province in Canada and CH. stands for Chemin. It sometimes shows up in French villages in Nova Scotia but that's not very common. In Quebec you will see RUE meaning street or road on their signs a lot.
For future reference, nobody outside of New England like Boston sports clubs. So even not being from Maine, i knew you were right as soon as i saw that red sox flag. Don’t doubt yourself so much, you had that shit right away.
1:18 If you had paid attention to the Topsfield and Lincoln sign, you could've save a lot of time in the first round that you spent confirming if it was indeed the Springfield in Maine
ZIP codes in the US go lowest to highest East to West. Not that you are ever going to memorize it but the 04 of the postal code number pretty much guarantees you are in Maine. As an example of that east to west number advancement you might remember a little show called "Beverly Hills 90210"
What are the strange but consistent repeated “bumps” on the road surface in the Australian and Canadian rounds? They are some artefact of the google camera, but I can’t imagine what.
Quick tip on Amsterdam: Amsterdam has the borough (is that the right English term? They are called "stadsdelen" ("city parts") in Dutch) name underneath the street name on road signs. I don't know any other Dutch city that has that. Might save you a bit of time in the future. And many Dutch cities have a street named after Anne Frank - in fact there's an Anne Frankweg just around the corner from where I live.
Tomás Ferreira honestly I think a moderate amount of content (on youtube, not twitch) is better without a face cam. It’s almost like reading a book and you have this image of what a character looks like, then they make a movie and it’s different than what you imagined, if that makes sense? Certainly no offense to the wizard himself: he’s a good looking lad haha. TH-cam and twitch are different platforms for me in that way, because twitch is more known for donations and supporting the literal person, and youtube, in a way, draws viewers in, and allows them to make that decision to make it more personal. So, I suppose, while it’s my personal opinion, that’s why I say I’m not a fan of face cams on TH-cam. I typically stop watching creators who start including face cams in their content for this reason

He even made a video focused on my hometown, which I absolutely loved. It was awesome seeing his reaction to things I grew up and currently live around. I agree with you that longtime subscribers and followers of his twitch are more likely to not notice much of a difference, and that’s a tough subject for any creator: do you cater to your already-existing audience, or do you create content that’s more likely to bring new viewers and subscribers in? That topic is obviously much bigger than my opinion on TH-cam face cams. I wrote my comment in order to give (hopefully welcome) feedback from his audience, and support the effectiveness of the algorithm on the videos, which I think is the primary purpose of commenting. Anyway, this was fun getting to the bottom of these topics, writing out my thoughts on them for the first time. I suppose I should say thank you! :-)
