@SunnyYasin-wd5sp when I said us mean it as people as humans nature is more powerful than people but the weather is more powerful in all countries it causes death and destruction just like war and it's all sad because at the end of the day we are all humans
I have been going to Cedar Key since 1990 and it is so unfortunately that they have got hit several times my thoughts and prayers go out to everybody that's affected by the hurricane
Looking at this all I can think about is the social media geniuses on Twitter saying that the media overblows these storms to get rating and that it wasn't gonna be that bad.
In this day and age hurricanes happen every year and we have the resources and technology to build homes to withstand storm surges and hurricane force winds as evidenced by this video. Some of those houses looked unscathed while others were reduced to rubble. I understand if there are older houses around it would be hard to retrofit them, but when the people re-build they should raise them up and use materials strong enough to withstand a minimum Cat4 hurricane. Especially the houses crammed right there on the water.
Everyone is an expert. Maybe just be quiet and let us get through the storm. Be more like the people commenting with good wishes and prayers for the affected communities. It’s clear a sad number of these comments are by people who know nothing about the history or the people of this area, the local economy, and what folks do for a living. Maybe best to keep your criticism to yourselves. These aren’t Yankees selling over-priced homes and moving to Florida. These towns were inhabited long before New Yorkers got tired of the snow. They are some of the oldest cities in Florida, with proud people, tough people, who will bounce back from this like they always do. They catch the fish you eat, grow the timber you use and the crops that sustain the area. They can’t afford the types of structures you “think they should use.” Pray for them, don’t belittle them.
Sadly, these were once marshes and swamps that were designed to absorb the impact of a hurricane. I understand wanting to live by the coast, but perhaps it’s time to reassess the risks. I think it would be wise to allow some places to restore their marshes and move homes inland. You could do this while preserving some beaches and towns, if done properly.
Idk about "designed", but they almost certainly provided a essential buffer zone. I don't think you've lived in Florida if you think moving homes inland is a good solution. I'm not saying it wouldn't help, but even the inland areas can be seriously affected by hurricanes.
@@danielhavrilla4380 just by looking at it it seems most of the structures are made of wood. So any structure that wasn't really touched probably had something shielding it from wind major wind damage. Or those could be concrete but they looked like wood.
Probably the difference between mostly wooden buildings and ones constructed from concrete or at least having a concrete foundation. Stilts can also make a big difference if they are able to withstand the storm surge and pounding of the winds for at least 24-48 hours. But it's worth considering that maybe the destroyed buildings took the brunt of the storm and saved the others from total destruction.
The wood structures near the coast are a bad idea. Cinder block build near the coast. Who does not know this? And trailers near the coast? Just stop. Smh.
I suggest you look at a map to see where these places are and also check a topological chart to get a sense for the terrain and relative elevation with respect to see level. Some places are at much greater risk than others, but ignoring our changing climate and the severity/track of such powerful storms is important.
Its like the three little pigs story why would you continue to build straw and wood houses when the big bad wolf always blows it down, every home in Florida should be made of brick or concrete smh

On a plus note, there were also several elevated homes that appeared to be in pretty good shape. No one should rebuild with a 1 story home - it’ll just get wiped out by another storm and is uninsurable.
Storm surge was forecast to be as high as 20 feet. With wave action the water may have been higher. How high up do you build before it just gets too high?
I can't comprehend the stupidity it takes to live in hurricane hell. I'd understand if it was the only place the poor could afford but many of these people have options.
Certain places will need to face the fact that they are now not habitable. There is no insurer who will take the risks, anymore. Responders are placed at unnecessary risk and resources to rebuild are not infinite.
People who respond to help and rescue others choose to place themselves at risk and can also choose not to. Rebuilding to the same degree/scale in a place where it may be destroyed again in less than ten years is folly.

I know hurricane season usually lasts between June and November, but how come it always seems like August and September are the most active times for hurricanes though, especially September? It always seems like we get more hurricanes and storms around or in September more for some reason than any other month during hurricane season, especially since we're still in September so far too. 2. Also, I don't know if it's just me or what, but how come it also seems like a lot of these storms and hurricanes with the female names seem to be stronger than the male storms for some reason? It always seems like the female storms seem to be the strongest though than the male storms. I just thought of asking these questions though since I was only just wondering myself.
You might want to check the "history books", because things weren't always this bad. I do agree that building anything on the barrier islands was probably a bad idea in the first place. But it was probably okay, if a little dubious, to build some really simple "beach houses" where you might spend a couple weeks summer vacation. By which I mean a place with some bedrooms and a living area that doesn't have food, electricity, running water, etc aside from what you bring to it.
