Breathe life into an abandoned beast? Challenge Accepted! 👊
Welcome back, fellow riders! We're embarking on a journey like no other today, taking a ride on our 1983 Kawasaki GPZ1100 which had been left to rot for 10 years! And guess what? We got this gem for FREE from our neighbor! 😲 Yes, you heard it right - completely FREE!
In this episode, we are sharing the exhilarating experience of our first ride on this classic Kawasaki GPZ1100, after a grueling restoration project. It's a ride that's been a decade in the making!
When we first found the GPZ1100, it was in a deplorable state - abandoned, neglected, and without the warmth of an engine's hum for the past decade. The bike was stored outdoors, exposed to the harsh elements without spark plugs. Its once-powerful engine was seized, and the fuel injectors were clogged with years of accumulated muck. We even drained nearly 4 gallons of stagnant liquid from the case! 😳
But, as they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure. We saw past the rusty exterior and seized engine, to the heart of a champion that was just waiting to be unleashed again.
Today, we've brought this classic beast back to life and finally taken it for a ride! Can you believe it? A motorcycle that was abandoned and left for dead is now roaring down the road once again. It's crazy and awe-inspiring! 🏍️💨
So, buckle up, folks! Hit play and come ride with us as we take this resurrected Kawasaki GPZ1100 for a spin!
Don't forget to check out our previous episodes to see the journey of restoration, and feel the excitement of each victory - no matter how small - as we battled rust, grease, and grime to bring this Kawasaki back from the brink. (Links in the description below)

This brought back some good memories, that little over rich burble under 3000 rpm which disappears just as the beast launches off like a rocket. These bikes really are amazing when you think back to 1983 and a standing quarter mile of just under 11 seconds at 120 mph right out of the factory!

It is a purpose built rocket ship 🏍️🚀 I was purposely babying it. Not because of the bike but because of me. I have gotten way more comfortable riding it. Figure we have 3,000 miles to get used to each other. Might as well take it slow.

So awesome they all can’t be saved so it’s nice when one is.

Agreed. We should at least try to save the ones we can. Thanks for watching.

Would be neat to see it on a dyno. Great work.

The shop that changed my tires has a dyno. Should do that when we get back from Colorado.

Awesome! Need a phone mount for gps speedometer. “ no officer i was not going 120mph” it was just a moving backdrop for youtube production, see speedometer reads 0mph..😂

I have one worked out. Sits on top of the headlight inside the fairing. In early testing 3,500-3,800 RPM in 5th is around 65mph. I think anything over 6,000 RPM in 5th starts to transport you to another dimension.

@@motorcyclerewind The "running on three" at idle sound is usually caused by the throttle bodies being out of balance, a simple vacuum sync on those will probably get rid of it. It is not critical but when they are balanced, you get the proper Kawasaki bark when you throttle wack it.

Sounding pretty decent! 👌 Does it feel like clutch is slipping? It sounds like it's working so hard for little gains 🤷‍♂️ i could be wrong though haha hard to tell from video

I was in too high a gear. I ride it like an old lady with a standard, shift to 5th as soon as possible.😂

Hows that riding position going to feel after the first hour or two on the road? Hard to tell how leaned over you are.

It is way better than I thought. I think I was preparing for the worst.
