The original “Tales from the Hood” is a true classic. It had great writers and Spike Lee was behind the scenes with the production company. It was a disappointment that the sequels couldn’t live up to any thing near the original.

Clarence Williams III RIP played the hell out of that role for a long time I would not watch movies he was in because I thought he was really crazy like real life crazy but one of the coldest actors to grace the silver screen and tv
With the 2nd story, I think the mom couldn't see the monster because she wasn't in touch with her imagination until the Lil boy stood up to the monster
The monster is used to convey how kids interpret things and because they don’t know how to articulate well people pass things they say off as kids making things up…the scene where the monster comes in the room and the kid is screaming and crying saying no but we don’t hear any punching or slapping makes me think it may have been sexual assault too

I think that the reason Mr. Simms was acting like that was that he was trying to tell the three dudes that he was the Devil without coming out and just saying it. It's just that they weren't paying attention the whole time. He even told them halfway through that "They want the shit.. They are going to be knee deep in The Shit.." The whole thing with him turning on the lights by touching them was another sign that they should have smartened up and realized that they were no longer in normal reality so to speak.
Pretty much the golden age of hood movies for me. Can’t tell you how many times i saw the reruns on cable back then. Funny and scary is always a good combo.
