Lets be honest, there are so many of us here that would have lost interest in mixing Psytrance without this video. The raw basics presented in 7 minutes. It is so good. In my opinion you don't need more and maybe you shouldn't even watch more, its the foundation to create your own style.
Totally agree. Typed "psytrance transitions" into a search bar and found this video on a reddit post from 8 years ago. Still relevant. Adding echo on the FX and using crunch on the hi-pass also do wonders too as just layers onto this foundation.
There is of course a lot more to know :) 1. Use the right tracks for mix. 2. You need to know about harmonics. 3. you need to have a feeling for rythm. Not only about 4 tact. 4. You need to feel the party people. And then you need to build your own mixing stile. Bevor you be able to be a good Psytrance DJ, you need to train a lot and you need to have a lot of high quality tracks also.
Honestly. Perfect You didnt tell us your whole lifestory or how psytrance djing was invented and what so many people do wrong and whatever You just deliver quick Thanks!
Well if you are used to listen to psytrance (or any electronic music) you will clearly notice when a new phrase comes in. Every 8 bars (32 beats) something happens, sometimes is a big change in the track, sometimes is just a new sound added and sometimes is just a cymbal crash that's telling you "HERE starts a new phrase". Start paying more attention to what you listen and you'll get it easily =)
my problem on finding out this new phrase coming in was IDing what a phrase was! lol btw, on 3:00 did you really mean 8 bars before the swap point? it seemed much more to me but I'm not literate in music xD
I keep referencing this video over and over again as I learn how to mix for the first time! Hitech psytrance is my poison and I haven't been able to find much online like this, thank you so much!
The Denon is the one I use. It's very solid, nothing cheap. But you can start with any midi controller. I started with a cheap Hercules mp3 E2, so yes... just be sure it has the Traktor mapping, so you wont have to build it yourself.
Super Psychrobatic! Big thx for the nice basic tutorial here mixing psytrance!. Even i have learn something that makeing much amateur psy mixes for fun with mixmesiter :D Keep up the good work dude!
Yes, they are in the same key. This works also on harmonic compatible keys, like 1 fifth above/below. But if they are in totally incompatible keys you would have to do quick cut and drop or find 2 tracks that really go well together even if they are not in compatible keys.
Sure mate, just keep thinking out of the box, keep experimenting. These are just ideas I'm showing. Make your own way. And listen to psytrance, is freaking amazing !
You have the basics here, just experiment yourself. Last transition uses the filter to slowly hi pass the track while the other is building up. You can also try mixing only with the filter. For example, start highpassing A, while slowly add some low-end from B (start with the filter at full left position)... then slowly turn both knobs clockwise.
wow I am a complete beginner and just did my first transition EVER....this video really helped me doing it. I used the bass swap and now I will try the lead swap THANKS For your HELP 🙏
Cool video! But quick little tip for anyone trying that last transition, start the loop 1 bar (or beat) later so you don’t have that constant ringing cymbal/crash. That way it isn’t as obvious that you’re transitioning another song.
You inspired me to finally start mixing goa and i'm loving it. Picked up a cheap used MC3000 that should serve me just fine till i can get something more modern/capable.
I just watched another video of yours and things are much brighter now..I didn't asked my question good because i can't put it right in English :) Don't worry, i figured it out. thanks
I love that you can notice the screen moving after landing the last transition, assuming that was a victory dance :)). Great tutorial, thank you very much!
The MC3000 works just okay with Traktor Pro 2. You need to download the mapping from Denon website and then import it into TP2. DJ Software is a matter of choice, but I'd definitely go for TP2 instead of VDJ. Go to Denon website and ask in the forum if you can't make it work with Traktor.
You're actually really good at this man :) I don't really listen to psytrance much, I usually do techno, deep house, edm maybe, progressive, but I was requested like a few days ago to do a party and play psytrance, and I actually never did psytrance, but I would like to do it because I like to play with different types of house music, so this was really helpful, I definitely look forward to seeing more of your videos of this kind. Keep up the good work man!
Thanks mate! When mixing psytrance you have to think outside of the box as it's not a "standard intro/outro structured" genre. Just go crazy and experiment with it. Yes, I've used mixmeister a lot in the past, but just to prepare a mixed playlist for a party. I still use it for that purpose, but only when doing "normal" parties. In psy raves I like to mix it live, much more fun. Don't be afraid of buying a cheap midi controller and start mixing with Traktor/Serato/Whatever. Good luck! =)
this just confirmed me I was doing things right, I wish I had this information earlier because I spent some time figuring out how everyone did :) Great tips man, was just searching for some new techniques since I'm doing a small gig tomorrow =)
It should be noted in this that track A is a twilight/night time full on track and track B is a full on track so that beginners can recognize the sub genres being played here. A lot of the principals are generally the same however I mix Psychedelic aka uptempo psy which is often mistaken for full on and I use 32 bar mixes to create a progressive sound that makes it hard to tell when one song ends and the next starts. These mixes are very good and manage to create that progressive flow without using long mixes, there are other ways but this is a great tutorial.
It's the Raycotek's mapping with some modifications. To jump 8 bars, you need to map the button to Deck Common > Move > Beatjump and there select -32 or +32. Good luck!
Make sure your In and Out ports are pointed to the Denon. Preferences>Controller Manager, then select the Denon under the drop down menu, then change In-Port and Out-Port to Denon. Sometimes when you unplug the USB and plug it back in, it requires you to do this again when you start Traktor. Hope that helps!
Thank you. Yes, each bar has 4 beats, so 8 bars are 32 beats, a typical phrase. Regarding keys, search "harmonic mixing" on google. I don't like call them "rules", there are no rules. A tutorial on mixing progressive is coming, but to put it in a few words, the transitions in progressive are slower than full on. Slowly and progressively (duh!) mixing the next tune in. Stay tuned for the next tutorial. Thanks!
Great lesson mate! I have just got back into DJing after a 10 year break and found this really useful (especially the last one!). I always mixed vinyl and have just got a DDJ so good to see how its done digitally! Keep up the good work and Thanks Again!!!!
my word, DJing is so much easier than it used to be. trying to keep 2 psy tunes in for ages using old vinyl was always fun ;) none of this 10 second trasitions and auto cues etc. thats why psy trance used to be one of the hardest genres to mix.
PsyTrance is still pretty rough to mix because of all the synth leads going on. Not as hard as it used to be by a long shot. Fortunately back then I was mixing UK hardhouse mostly but that gave me a pretty good foundation.
Thanks a million for this :) Been experimenting for months on mixing psy trance and this really helped me grasp it properly. Keep the vids coming dude :) I subbed and liked ;) Fu*king awesome :D
Thanks for this. I'm a while off playing any parties but I'm learning psytrance production so this will come in handy at some point. I wanna learn to mix at home just for fun though in the meantime.
Thank you SO MUCH for so comprehensive answer and it is great to know that tutorial about mixing progressive is coming! That's what I thought :) Of course, I have already subscribed your page on FB and YT channel so I will be up to date for sure. Once again thanks and have a nice time on mixing psy!
great tutorial well made the screen layout is great ... its great too see psy trance mixing beeing explained as a new dj in the trance progressive style i would love more tips and with the fxs it would be great
Nice video man. Simple 😊 I generally use the first three types. As I'm mostly playing uplifting tracks. Generally I prefer the progressive mix type you have shown here. *runs away to drop some psy tracks*
Man this tutorial is amazing! Thanks from Argentina, can you do a tutorial about basics on traktor? how you set your cue point, and things like that? that would be really helpful for the noobs like me in the dj world
Pablo Maríncola here is a full PLAYLIST of videos where every bit of traktor is explained: replace the DOT with a "." wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=uj_Afs3y5_Y&list=PL8B4D22ABB7D0F1F0
02:00 which ones are you changing? "Slowly mix mid-hi of B while removing the from A". Which one is "mid-hi"? You have 4 knobs (but can't see what they are called on your mixer), I only have 3: Bass, Medium and Treble knobs. I don't have any called "mid-hi".
Yes, they can work with songs with vocals, as long as you don't overlap both vocals together, that will probably sound bad. Regarding other genres, I haven't experienced too much mixing other stuff, but yes, probably. Why don't you try it yourself and let me know? =)
This is all good.. thanks for taking time and effort... im familiar with all of these... what about Goa Trance mixing... that is bit of a challenge... could you try making a video on that. thanks in advance.
Would u consider doing a tutorial around the use of the effects whilst mixing, I use traktor myself and play mostly trance and oldskool trance but don't have much idea how to use the effects properly.
Mine is working fine for me after 5 months. If budget is not an issue then you could easily get a Denon-MC 3000 like mine. Or get a Traktor Kontrol S2/S4.

Thanks. Psytrance is trance at last, so yes, they can be used for any kind of trance. Glad you liked it!
Super Psychrobatic!
Big thx for the nice basic tutorial here mixing psytrance!.

So how's the bebe
@@abdsnomadicescapadez I've been carrying for 4 fucking years now I think its some kind of alien
@@acidbubbles419 yeah maybe it is 👽 🕉️ ey your channel is awesome I'll def vibe to the music you've curated.
Yeah okey i need some practice
Ok even for traktor dj'ing the last loop and filter out transition was f'n badass! Cheers from Denmark! 🤘🏼🎧

I feel these techniques can be used in other genres too. Great lesson!
depends, tried the lead swap on deep house, but most of the buid ups are just to weak in order to make it smooth
Trance in genral it can be used. Good exsample is hard dance or hard house.
I've seen these techniques all work with the right DnB tracks. Though the phrasing is longer with DnB usually.
Fukkin brilliant bro, simple yet effective.... Plus, to actually execute the 3rd is not at all how easy you made it look... Respect!
The final is amazing, but as a beginner I think I'm going to go for the second one. Love that.
Sure mate, just keep thinking out of the box, keep experimenting. These are just ideas I'm showing. Make your own way. And listen to psytrance, is freaking amazing !
The last transition was so dope !! O_O

This was cool! I've been mixing PsyTrance for 13+ years and I learned something from this. I appreciate this video. Thank you.
Bang on with that last transition. I always hear them but it's amazing to see how it actually works
I dont think that he is realy professional psytrance dj.... Check out my mixes, learn what is REAL transitions

Thank you! The last transition can get better by adding the right effects =)
Bravo. Nice simple transitions, and nothing overly complicated.

Awesome tutorial man, thanks a lot was exactly what i was looking for. More videos will be much appreciated! Greetings from South Africa.

it was nice of you to show me how to mix psytrance clearly!!
thanks a lot!!
Thanks a lot for this video!
I have been starting to mix psytrance a few weeks ago when I got my first controller and your video is my mentor! :D
The last one was very cool! Thanks for the advices
Thank you, my friend and I are looking into starting to mix psy trance and this tutorial is extremely helpful.
nice final transition!! i find that adding reverb on some "messy" intros before filtering the bass over smoothens things out depending on the track
my word, DJing is so much easier than it used to be. trying to keep 2 psy tunes in for ages using old vinyl was always fun ;) none of this 10 second trasitions and auto cues etc.

Thanks for this. A real newbie to all of this, but having fun messing around. Have a lot to learn, but not doing to badly for a couple of days :)
Thanks for this. I'm a while off playing any parties but I'm learning psytrance production so this will come in handy at some point. I wanna learn to mix at home just for fun though in the meantime.
Great tutorial man. I liked the last technique especially. I don't mix psy trance, but, I'm gonna have to try these out :]
Great tutorial!! I just perfected my loop mix! Thanks m8!
I just visit once in a while to witness this last majestic transition
Nice one! Right to the point and no yakking about yourself. Great ideas for most any genre. Thanks my friend.
God I really liked the last one, nice job here !
very cool man thank you
you opened my mind and i finnaly beginning to understand how to mix
thank youuu
Awesome tutorial! You inspired me to try to get into dj'ing at this very moment!
Great tute and useful info for those getting the hang of mixing. Keep the vids coming! :)

Very concise, probably working for every genre! Thank you mate
Awesome that I stumbled on to this awesome tracks.😎
sick tutorial man! much appreciated! gunna try these techniques out RIGHT NOW!
I just don't like to over-categorize stuff but I'd say these could be something between night and hi-tech full-on (definitely not morning).
That last transition yoh, have a thumbs up :)
Nice video man. Simple 😊
I generally use the first three types. As I'm mostly playing uplifting tracks. Generally I prefer the progressive mix type you have shown here.
*runs away to drop some psy tracks*
Thank you! This was really helpful. Was getting tired of my limited Psy mixes.. Thanks for your time in making this tutorial :) Peace
Man this tutorial is amazing! Thanks from Argentina, can you do a tutorial about basics on traktor? how you set your cue point, and things like that? that would be really helpful for the noobs like me in the dj world

I'm changing 2 knobs, MID/MEDIUM and HI/TREBLE. When I say mid-hi I meant those two knobs. Medium and Treble in your case.
Yooo!!!! Killing video, more of these video tutorial like these plzs!!!. Excellent...

Stay tuned 🙃
More please...
TH-cam is seemingly devoid of psytrance tutorials
Please make a tutorial how to mix more agressive tracks (progdark, forest, etc)
Thanks for video, especially for last one method) i'll try

Thank you this is really helpful and inspiring
Thanks for that tutorial !! It's super clear, I'm gonna practice now !! 🤓
Would u consider doing a tutorial around the use of the effects whilst mixing, I use traktor myself and play mostly trance and oldskool trance but don't have much idea how to use the effects properly.
I love the last one ;)
Thx for this tutorial, that's gonna help me !
