If you use the GCRI method you can see the original features but they are read only and cannot be changed. In short there is no way to get the features created in a newer release retrieved in an older release and be able to modify them.
good approach ! But we can simply save the assembly from CREO 6.0 as a STEP file so that we can open it from any version of creo. In both Step & GCRI approach, the files will be an imported feature. am i right ?

Normally. It works without any issues.
Just click on open and select the file you want to open
Much fewer steps in just creating a step file and opening that.
