About this game:
RogueVania: The progressive exploration of an interconnected world, with the replayability of a rogue-lite and the adrenaline pumping threat of permadeath.
Souls-lite combat: Pattern-based bosses and minions, weapons and spells with unique gameplay. Make do with what you have and don’t forget to roll.

general rule of thumb for speedrun doors : miss one, don't bother speed running anymore.

pazu_ Bossfight timed door has ivy grenade. Top tier skill
pazu_ timed door in the osuarry and after the boss have blueprints, so it is worth rushing for them.
however a better way to get them is to still explore everything, for the scrolls etc. but to lion strat your way past most enemies and constantly roll because it's faster than walking.
and once you have them once you don't need to rush again

Actually streamer there's a guaranteed two scrolls per level so you missed on the average pickups.

Not necessarily. I've had multiple runs with only 1 scroll. I've had scrolls that were unreachable (up on a ledge only reachable with the 3 jump necklace) so in effect only 1 reachable scroll. In later levels I've had 3 and 4 scrolls. So while it is "supposed" to give you 2 it doesn't always happen. If it's a bug they need to patch it.
Granted I have gotten better so the missing occasional scroll is not a big deal anymore, but when I first started it was a run killer.
That's not possible unless its a bug. There are no unreachable scrolls, in terms of ledges or jumps. There are however scrolls gated by gold gates or shops, but generally money isn't an issue once you've played the game for a while.
Not true. Just had a run where I explored everything and had to fight the bridge boss with only 2 levels in strength, 0 skills and 0 hp. Could have been a bug though, because enemies did drop no gold after the first level aswell...
@Benny - Right, because you haven't seen it it isn't true. That is the definition of a bug. I've seen numerous people comment on NL's videos about this so it isn't an isolated thing. I will say this. I have started playing the live beta and after 12 runs I haven't seen the issue recur. I could almost guarantee I would get at least one level short a scroll on the current release in that time so...patched? Hopefully(?) If I do find another unreachable scroll I will make a point to screenshot it.
You keep being SO underleveled for the area you make it to. You NEED to explore all the maps! If you don't get at least two scrolls per level, you're doing something wrong.

James Joul the update seems awesome, and I'm itching to play it, but I'd rather wait a week for it's 'official' release. Save's don't carry over, and even if you copy your save into the beta, any progress made in it won't carry over to when the official release is out.

I think saves might carry over. The patch notes say "If you play with your save files in the beta version, you will not be able to use them in the stable version, until we push the beta branch out to the public." What I understand from that is we can use our current saves in the beta, but then can't switch back from the beta until the update is released officially to everyone.

Damage buff is just +70% attack and it makes you take 30% more damage too.
where is that information? I don't see that in the patch notes

Great run, NL! Thanks for the series, I watch it every day :) yeah I definitely think you could benefit from more scrolls, your strength was level 3 at the end of the run! It seems the enemy's health scales up fairly quickly :) can't wait for the next one!
With the graveyard, unless you REALLY want to get the dead cells from enemies, its often a better idea just to bypass the skeletons/zombies that spawn the hordes. The amount of time spent trying to kill them, plus the chances of being forced into spikes makes it a kinda bad cost benefit.
NL: When using the Spiteful Sword stop running away when you get hit. It crits for as long as you have orange bar. . . It's literally the "Mash X" weapon.

Then why go in, and not clear the floor first?!
Timed doors are trash. They aren't worth rushing at all, even worse than secret rooms in Enter the Gungeon. What would actually be novel is clearing all the floors before moving on (Unless you have a blueprint or two and may die) resulting in 2-3+ scrolls each floor and a lot more options for equipment and chances for blueprint drops.

The way you deal with the hook is to roll behind him instead of away from him immediately after he hooks you. He can't hit you there, and you can recover all the HP his hook took from you if you attack quick enough. Rolling away from him just makes him harder to deal with
Spiteful sword is actually really good against Incomplete One. Basically you're able to just slug it out with him and it's crits would keep your health up, it's hilarious; it's really useful for when you begin losing patience and just start panicking/getting mind flooded.

I had the spiteful sword, ~1500 HP and the amulet that deals the damage i take to nearby enemies. The hooker demons died if the made their hook + slash combo, only slightly denting me.
Basically never needed to roll ever again.

I just use the whip to find "tinted rocks" cause it auto-targets them from a pretty decent range. Also, now with the update, it stuns everything in water which is nice.
NL's dream came true. You can now chuck red bombs back with shields in the beta branch!
hey NL there's a timer on top of the map use it to know were to be on a floor at the right time just like the boss rush and the hush fight in the binding of Isaac because the door after the first boss closes after in the 11 minutes mark

You might consider some revision to your time-gate strategy. Skipping monsters (especially in the grave yard) costs only gold and cells.
If you're gunna do timed doors it's best to ignore a lot of enemies. You can still take out many enemies along the way fairly quickly but ones in a dead end rooms are purely for gold/cells and just waste time.
You were actually doing pretty good though. 28 seconds late on the boss timed door isn't too shabby.
you are ending up maassively under-levelled by leaving the level as soon as you find a door. it is the equivilent of skipping the item room, shop, and devil deal in isaac. each floor has multiple scrolls on it, as well as better items etc. missing scrolls is the worst thing you can do.
So NL goes fast and skips part of levels when he doesn't speed run them but checks every nook and cranny when he is speed running. I don't know why I didn't expect this from the Egg.

Imagine his face when he realizes the electric whip is 100% overpowered.
So, NL? You know if there is an entrance to a different floor, it does not mean you have to go through it instantly.

nl the money doors you can smash open and then it will curse you if you do. The heart if you are cursed with the heart you won't be revied. note the heart door will need you to kill forty enemy's.

So many missed runes, even mildly obvious ones. How does one notice tinted rocks so easily but miss runes? I notice he and lots of youtubers are almost certain to miss a second rune if it's near a first. I've found FOUR on the same screen. Keep up the awareness!

NL is some sort of sexual tyrannosaurus and we all learned in Jurassic Park that their vision is movement based so he can't see the runes, shield dudes, training dummies or mushrooms when they are idle.

probably finds the tinted rocks because of the 8 billion hours in Isaac. and have you seen him play dark souls? he finds one way to play a game and does it time and time again. there was a video that was posted a LONG while ago where he did a seed in isaac with cobalt(?) twice. played exactly the same way both times almost to the point where it is identical.

Watch those cooldowns like you're playing OW. You don't make nearly as efficient use of your items as you could.

I don't even understand how people can do this to themselves. I would be bored to death of the game months, if not years, before it would even be complete, unable to actually enjoy all the later features.
It's absolutely sickening.
What kills me the most is that in early access over extended periods of time, people just burn themselves out on a game and when the full release comes out no one cares anymore.
There is one extreme exception to this and that's Darkest Dungeon.
MFW NL complains about underpowered, but skips scrolls in the shop and free scrolls everywhere...

I just want you to know, NL, that I purchased Dead Cells yesterday. After three hours of playtime, I beat the game twice. With mouse and keyboard.
Part of it stems from knowing what not to do from your videos (leaving before clearing out the floor, neglecting your advantages, lacking peripheral vision, ignoring secrets, etc). Thanks to your ineptitude, Dead Cells has become a walk in the park.
Electric Whip + Damage Buffer is all you should ever need to easily beat the game. Please think about your equipment synergies every now and then.

I am going to have to dissapoint you. That combo has been nerfed in the comming update. or more specifically, Damage buffer has been nerfed so it doesnt work as well with low damage fast attack weapons anymore. (whip also nerfed but thats less relevant for the combo). I would invite you to try it again in the beta branch. The whip+Dmg booster was kinda cheesing it since the formula to calculate damage was a mistake.
(still a mean feat to do it in 3 hours, but you're missing out man. The game has more to offer.)

This game is being so over-exposed. I fear that the early access success will kill the game in the long run. They shouldve had a series of open betas that are time limited to keep people wanting more. So that when the game is finished, there is still some hype leftover.
