एकवीरा आई मंदिर | Ekvira Devi Temple | Karla Caves | Complete Details | Lonavala

The famous Ekvira Aai Mandir is a Hindu temple near the Karla Caves, close to Lonavala and Mumbai in Maharashtra. Goddess Ekvir is worshiped by Hindus and people from other faiths and is right next to the cave.
This temple is a place of worship for the Koli and Agri communities. While the main goddess is Ekvira Mata, to her left is Jogesvari Devi. Ekvira Aai temple is on a hill, and you must walk around 500 steps to reach the Mandir.
It is amid the famous Karla caves, which the Archeological Survey of India protects.
It’s a temple for the Koli (Fishermen) community on the Mumbai-Pune highway. It’s also known as Karla caves. The goddess is also called ‘Ekvira Aai’ in Marathi.
During festivals (Navarathri and Chaitra), the Koli people climb the tall mountain, which has 350 man-made steps, to reach the temple and worship Aai Ekvira.
Koli tribes offer animal sacrifices in the temple to Aai Ekvira. They offer goats and chickens.

Sometimes I wonder , how come you have a Devi temple built in front of a 2000 year old Buddhist caves. I think most of the Buddhist statues are also converted into Hindu god and goddess. Similarly with caves, some of them have also been converted into Hindu caves .

As per Wikipedia, "The monastery was once home to two 15-meter grand pillars outside the chaitya. Now only one of these remains, and the remaining space is occupied by a temple dedicated to the goddess Ekveera, who is worshipped most notably by the Aagri and Koli community of Mumbai."
Whatever maybe, the Temple and the Buddhist Caves coexist now.

Just like ankor wat hindu temple became Buddhist temple after Buddhist became majority .
However there are cases like ellora caves where the mulnivasi deccani hindu rashtrakuta king built religious srtucture of three religions Hinduism ,Buddhism and jainism

See, from car parking, there are some 100 odd steps which cannot be skipped. Maybe, there may be some arrangement of "Palki", but I am not really sure.

"The View from the Karla Caves is nice. The main highlight was the climb onto the Ekvira Temple which was a bit stressful for city folks like me who lack fitness. It is a 15-20 min climb from the parking lot. For Senior Citizens, we were lucky to find a "Palki" which is not known to everyone. They bargain to around 2500 to-fro journey. Overall a nice experience. The line on Saturdays is a bit long. We reached around 4 PM. It is advisable to start in the morning to avoid rush and heat."
