I think the objective of a video like this is to inform, but also to make you want to go. I was cleaning off my hiking boots when I got done watching. Great job!!
We really appreciate this kind of feedback! We try to make them fun and interesting! We have two more hiking episodes coming from Great Smoky Mountains National Park! Thanks for your support!
I leave October 12th 🤣 me and my two best friends are going for my 34th bday! And this video made me call them at 2am and say Yep I found where we are going exploring this year!
All the times I have been to the smokies and I don't think I have ever taken this trail! I have added it to my list for my next trip. Great share! Hope I still have the energy to get to the top. Lol Lynn and Danny
Thank you for this! We are heading to the Smokys next month for a short trip. We were planning on doing the Ramsey Cascades (which we've done before) but the trail is closed during the week for renovation. I was looking for a different trail and I think this will be the one. Beautiful!!
great video. i used to live in Asheville, and it was great. still loving it over here in Murfreesboro, TN, though. getting out and about in nature as often as i can. thanks for this video! i will check your other videos as well.
lol, next time up there take in some of God's handiwork, you will love it!!! We fell in love with waterfalls on that trip and there are so many that are a short drive from Gatlinburg!!
As I just noticed in the "pinned comment" - this video sure does make you want to get out in general, specially, hit this beautiful trail! Added it to the bucket list! Nice work!
Alum Cave Trail has two parts, you did a great job showing the first part to Alum Cave Overhang. From the overhang you can continue on to the summit of Mt LeConte. It is 3.2 miles strenuous hike one way and the views at the summit are the best in GSMNP.
This was our Favorite hike we did at GSMNP! I have one more hike coming out soon from there, Spruce Flats Falls, and it was stunning!!! A week or so away!
Its a great hike. Sadly most people get the the cave and then go back down. The best part of that trail is the second half and theres a great little lodge there at the top.
So glad you enjoyed it!! It was wonderful! We were there Thanksgiving week last year and I would say about 2 to 2 1/2 hours round trip if I remember correctly.
thank you for this informative video and showing the difficulty of it - seems doable but - now my knees are feeling the downhill - you didn't mention how long it took you?
I would say an hour and a half to get up there. Just take your time and enjoy it, there are so many views to stop and take it all in, you will be fine. The steps getting into the bluff cave are the most difficult.
Very beautiful but tame compared to the various National Forest wilderness areas I've hiked out west, now southern Arizona. Being born in Manchester Tennessee I still want to explore Tennessee.
My main question, as I have not seen the answer to yet - is there a loop to get you back to your starting point, or do you just simply turn around and head back to home base?
So the name of the trail is Alum Cave Trail, but Alum Cave itself is a 500 ft long bluff, not an actual cave in the traditional way, it thru me off too, but it is an incredible hike and the views are excellent up there!
Hi again :) I have one last question. We want to go to alum cave and clingsman dome the same day. Which one do you recommend we do first? Our time is limited and so that’s why we want to combine both activities:)
I would do the Alum Cave hike first and early as you can, the views at Clingman's will look better at midday anyway! Keep any questions coming if we can help!
I would say this is too difficult for a toddler, but what you can do that we do every time we look into a hike, is go on alltrails.com and type in the alum cave trail and it will show you the elevation gain and all of the thoughts of the trail so you can decide for yourself. You can stop plenty along the way also, so you could see how they do and keep going with several planned stops along the way! Let us know if you end up doing it!!
lol, there is usually enough people on this trail that I would think thats not possible. Hope you get to do it again sometime, thanks for checking it out for us!
@@CampTravelExplore I was joking, I had to turn back because I had a long drive ahead of me that day. Plus this was a few days ago, I think bears are still hibernating. But I definitely want to do it next year.
Lol, I actually thought the same thing, but it really was one of the most picturesque hikes we have done and well worth it!! Thanks for checking it out!

Hey Thank You, so glad you checked it out. Appreciate you leaving feedback!
Don’t stop there...go all the way to the summit of LeConte! 12 miles round trip, but worth it!!
Yess, that is on our list to do for next visit!!

Yesss! Beautiful
Been to Gatlinburg a bunch of times but never been hiking... I've spent most of my time eating haha.

We’ve added it to our google map! Thanks! Great job on the videos!

Looking forward to doing this hike...!! We only live about 1 hour away from this location.
Such great views there! It was our favorite hike in the park!!
Absolutely beautiful

What type of camera did you use? Your video is awesome.
Great video, nice shot selection
Thank You so much!! Have you done the Alum Cave trail also?
@@CampTravelExplore I have! Years ago. Planning a weekend trip to the Smokies soon and its a "must-hike" for me
We want to go back and catch it with a little snow around ourselves!

Does this trail run with Peregrine Peake in the same in and out hike?
Great video! Thank you 😊

Your gonna love it! Did you like Bri jumping at the end? :)
@@CampTravelExplore hahaha yes I loved all her camios my first thought was to comment THATS my bestie in the purple🤣
Thanks Shelbs for checking it out!!
I made it to the summit and the view was 100% worth it so if anyone in good shape planning to do this trail I suggest getting to the summit
Thanks!
Thanks for checking it out!!
Are there any trails that start at the bottom and go up to the summit of the Smokey Mountains?
Great video!
Thank You so much!!
What month did you do this beautiful hike? How long did it take to hike? Thanks for the fabulous video!

So pretty im here in the smokies on vacation right now!! Have you seen a bear in the wild ?? I haven't seen one yet :(
We saw one at Grotto Falls. There is a video on it that we did if you check out our channel videos! Hope you get to see one!
I can’t decide between this one and rainbow falls
How far is Mount Leconte from lookout bluff?
Very beautiful but tame compared to the various National Forest wilderness areas I've hiked out west, now southern Arizona. Being born in Manchester Tennessee I still want to explore Tennessee.
Haven't hiked in Tennessee yet! Thanks for checking it out!!
My main question, as I have not seen the answer to yet - is there a loop to get you back to your starting point, or do you just simply turn around and head back to home base?
You turn around and go back, the trail does go to another trailhead as you can access it from two different points I believe
In the area now. It is absolutely amazing here. Went to Kingman's Dome and was in awe of the views.
Isn't it great! The views from Clingmans dome are tremendous! Do the Alum Cave trail if you have time!!
❤❤❤❤
I watched this twice and didn't see the entrance to the cave. Would you show the cave entrance? Thanks
So the name of the trail is Alum Cave Trail, but Alum Cave itself is a 500 ft long bluff, not an actual cave in the traditional way, it thru me off too, but it is an incredible hike and the views are excellent up there!
Great video. Do you use a phone stabilizer or gimbal?
No gimbal, just getting better at it and the iphone keeps improving their stabilization!! :)
@@CampTravelExplore No RV Park recommendations for all these trails?
Would you recommend boots or will sneakers be ok
I recommend hiking shoes for sure just because of the loose gravel in parts, but my 16 year old managed just fine in his Nike sneakers lol.
The trail has been improved since the early 1990s.
It was a really well kept trail which is why I'm sure its so popular!! We will take it up to Mt LaConte next time!

You are most welcome!!
What Camera you using for video
Would you believe I shot that whole episode on an iphone 11?
How long does it take to just do the alum cave? We are planning to with our kids (9 and 13 years old)
Confirm this on All Trails, but I think we made it up and back in about 2 1/2 hours or so. It is so worth it!!
About how long round trip? Time wise?
I would say less than 3 hours round trip as I remember!! This is a must do trail!!
Have you done chimney tops
We have not but it is on our list for next time! Have you done that hike yourself?
Best hike in the park if you go a little past the gate
Is this a family friendly hike? We were wanting to take our toddler.
I would say this is too difficult for a toddler, but what you can do that we do every time we look into a hike, is go on alltrails.com and type in the alum cave trail and it will show you the elevation gain and all of the thoughts of the trail so you can decide for yourself. @@CampTravelExplore I was joking, I had to turn back because I had a long drive ahead of me that day. Plus this was a few days ago, I think bears are still hibernating. But I definitely want to do it next year.
