This is all inaccurate. The security guard was not in anyones face. ACDC did exactly as the last few seconds of this video detail.
I was part of the security detail that night. Positioned in a one ton concrete pod, on the floor, up near the front. Fans were were pressed hard against the pod and the pressure never let up. Those who were less than about 5'7" in height, were unable to get sufficient oxygen. That, coupled with the constant, extreme pressure on all sides of their bodies, made it very difficult for them to inhale.
Now try to picture this. Imagine you are only 5 foot or maybe 5'2". You are buried in a sea of fans averaging 6" to 9" taller than you. You are breathing the hot, oxygen depleted air from those surrounding you (Co2 is heavier than air). You become light headed. Compounding the problem, your body is sweating, but there is no air circulating around it to evaporate the sweat and provide cooling. You are now oxygen depleted and your core temperature is rising steadily. You lose consciousness.
These symptoms were beginning to manifest before the concert even began, but as ACDC took the stage, the crush went from serious to extreme. For the first 30 minutes I was busy receiving unconscious or nearly unconscious young people, mostly teen girls, into my pod where they were able to rehydrate and cool quickly as the moisture in their soaking wet clothing could began to evaporate. Some of the older teens had been drinking which compounded all of the aforementioned challenges.
Now.. the sensationalistic media straight up lied. They ran headlines such as: Three Teens Dead as ACDC Incites Riot at SLC Concert. This is exactly 180 degrees out from the facts, I know, because I was on the floor near the front and watched what unfolded. About forty five minutes into their concert, The band was told that there was a problem on the floor and that people were getting injured. Immediately, Brian and Angus were visibly shaken. Brian stopped the concert and asked the fans on the floor to please take one step back. That was exactly what was needed. Had that occurred, just five minutes later, we would have lost many more young people. There was no riot. Brian Johnson, and Angus Young, the frontmen, were completely traumatized and wanted to end the concert. They were told to finish the evening and resume playing to avoid a riot. They complied.
Something to think about. I have heard much conjecture regarding the band. That they were high or had been drinking or both. I was onstage before the concert and checked the contents of the iced coolers that were placed there for the band. There was not a single beer on that stage. The coolers contained only spring water. At the conclusion of the concert, Brian was very emotional and asked if someone could drive him to the hospital. I write all of this because I am so disgusted by news journalists who have the facts available to them, but knowingly choose to print lies to increase readership. Please take anything you read, hear, or see with the smallest grain of salt

What a great summary. Nearly 30 years ago and the media was as biased as it is today. The news is the last place to gets news from.

I was there up in the stands. It went down exactly as you described. I remember sitting there and seeing bodies being pulled out of the crowd. We all thought something was seriously wrong. Then the lights came on and Brian begged everyone to take one step back over and over. It was the last concert I saw at the Salt Palace.

This reminds me of years ago when two of my friends were in the woods shooting one of their dad's pistols they snuck out of the house. One spotted a old rusted shovel head on the ground and shot it only to have the round ricochet off and hit the other boy in the stomach. It was purely an accident but in the newspaper it said he was making his friend dance while shooting at his feet and that was how he got shot. The police even pressed charges despite the others statement of an accident and he did significant time in juvenile detention. The media is full of shit even when celebrities are not involved. Anything to profit from a story.

I was friends with Jimmy in elementary. He was a huge AC/DC fan. I remember speaking with him not long before this concert. He was really excited to go. I was shocked and speechless when I found out it was him.

My dad is Russ Boyd. The other guy, beside Scott, who helped save teens lives that night. I still remember this happening and him talking about it. I also remember AC/DC slapping him with a cease and desist because he was telling the truth any time he was interviewed.

I remember hearing about this on the news all those years ago. A father of one of the victims was trying to take legal action against the band. I don't think he was successful.
