    Great talk! Yes, GPU mining is going through a process. Most of the GPU mining coins are very early in their cycle. The new coins don't have a developed ecosystem, unlike Ethereum in 2020 and beyond (that took 7 years or 2 cycles). And the old coins that made it thus far, were never really developed beyond a basic crypto. Flux is getting there, but is still early in development. It's going to take 1 or 2 more cycles before some of these GPU miniable coins replace Ethereum. Till then we are going to experience low profits.

    Mike i always love your take on things. I think GPU miners should start transitioning towards multi purpose rigs and securing cheap power. One project that i think has the right perspective to thwart ASICs is Warthog. Hashrate is determined by the balance of the GPUs with the CPU. And if you build for it you can pivot towards AI rentals easily.

    As a 68 gpu farm, I am finding myself annoyed with too many options and unknowns. Lots of people chase spec mines, but I'm sticking to projects that are in the 400-800 MC range. However, I'm starting to think maybe I should just unminable into Kaspa for now. I have a ton of crypto waiting for the bull run, but its all unknown until we see the parabolic phase of the bullrun. MY Nvidia cards are the ones I may mine unminable into Kaspa, but my AMD cards are all on CLORE and other mem-heavy algos.
    I've been considering selling off all my 30 series cards and swap out for 6600 XTs. Mostly due to heat. I just can't run any of these 30 series cards on any algo worth running on right now. 6600XTs tho run Kawpow no problem heat wise.

    • @RedFoxCrypto
      @RedFoxCrypto  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think it's also unknown what POW altcoins will do during the bull run and how much profit there will really be for GPU miners. I've been happy with the BTC I stacked using NiceHash/Unmineable since that has performed much better over the last several months than if I just mined and held the altcoin. Though if we have a true altseason it could have been a bad move. Time will tell.

People quit too easy. I guess the more people drop off the more profits for the miners that stay so that’s good. Regardless. Mining is long term and you won’t accomplish anything by turning off turning on turning off turning on. Mining is long term.

    I don't think GPU mining will ever be like it once was (before my time) but I still think there will be opportunities in the future, however short lived they may be. I'm so hopeful, in fact, that I'm considering putting together a couple rigs with cheap, unprofitable gpu's and setting them aside until those opportunities arise. If they don't get the chance to mine in next couple years then I'll donate them to a modern history museum.

    I think crypto mining was just the starting point in a computing descentralization revolution. I also think that energy efficiency will be a key ingredient in that revolution, the regions of the planet with cheap or abundant renewable energy will really benefit from that. Because of its versatility, GPU's will always have a place in all kinds os computing heavy work.

    Relatively new to mining as a hobby have 2 PCs mining one older & one new. I don't know if it will ever be profitable beyond btc price appreciation & HODL. There is value in versatile miners like gpus that can adapt on the fly to new algorithms etc... I think there is merit in both POW & POS, even though it isn't 2009 or even a handful of years ago there is potential opportunity for those accepting the risk of staying in the game but nothing ventured nothing gained.

    I turned my rigs off in 2023. I have 9 3090s, and a 2070 lol. I tried mining a few coins afterwards, but nothing was sustainable. But I knew I’d have FOMO if I didn’t keep my cards (mostly ROI’ed). This is my hobby. Recently began messing with this AI business last week. It’s giving me hope. But I really think in the future everyone will be mining crypto when it becomes mainstream. Didn’t intel or some other big company say they’re building a home miner? It’s going to take time. Until then, I will still hold on to that hope. There’s something futuristic about mining, about fighting the current corrupt global financial system, gaining some freedom, and using technology to make money. Blockchain will be the backbone of Web 3.0, and the miners who support the networks will be the ones who take credit and hopefully be rewarded handsomely once again.

    Software technology is only starting to catch up with the new needs/reality of gpu mining.
    Automatic switching of what your rig is mining based on coin price tracking and swapping are still in my opinion too new and not "dialed in" yet (think unminable etc). This will improve over time hopefully.
    My personal current residential theory is:
    1. Use your hardware the most during the winter season where heat is necessary, pull them back/shut them down in the summer (space heater theory).
    2. HODL coins, doubtful daily "money printing" is coming back.
    2.a. If you have true logical factual belief in a coins value rising over time and you loose only a few cents a day to mine it, consider mining that one coin. Never forget the fees you circumvent by mining directly. Remember your monthly electrical expenditure is your Dollar Cost Average and you can control that.
    Good Luck all, hope this helps!

    I'm thinking of getting an FPGA (Colengine P2) so I can profit on all the coins that transition to ASICs longer. I think you're right. We're in a weird space where GPU mining isn't super profitable and we don't know if it ever will be again. Hence the FPGA and ethash ASICs. I'll still keep my GPUs in case something good comes along but I shut off if the profitability isn't at least 25%.

    My philosophy is different this time around. The question for everyone that was into gpu mining over the last several bull markets is what is going to replace ETH this time around, if anything? The conclusion that I have come to is that there may not be anything that ever replaces ETH. So I’ve been mining coins for yield and paying the electric out of pocket. That is expensive for most people these days and not appealing as it means you have to pay massive electric bills out of pocket and realize little to no profit in the short term. But if you’ve been in the market at least one full cycle you understand how it works and what is coming. And when the time is right, I will sell most of my GPUs and recover some my original costs as well. I’m playing the long game with my GPUs. You asked for a paragraph 😁

    It's sad how a lot of these projects disrespect the GPU miners. I fully understand the benefits of ASIC's, I really do. But GPU mining brings not only decentralization, it brings in a lot of adoption from lots of GPU miners. Because anyone who has ASIC mine knows that you can buy an ASIC and it will be efficient for 3 months and then a new ASIC is dropped and the difficulty will increase so fast that your ASIC becomes nearly obsolete. You have to have a really crazy good electric rate or just have really good timing with ASIC's to make money on it imo without a literal warehouse and massive farm.
    I again understand the power of ASICs and I think they're amazing. But I do believe a big part of Ethereums success was them allowing both ASIC and GPU miners to compete.

    • @RedFoxCrypto
      @RedFoxCrypto  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree. I also think projects see ASICs as bringing a lot of stability and consistency to their network security vs GPU miners who hop to the most profitable coin. I know FIRO talked a lot about this when they decided to shift more rewards to node operators vs GPU miners.
      I wonder if there is more perceived loyalty from ASIC miners due to the economics, manufacturing, and the fact that they can only mine one algo whereas GPU miners shift to chase the most profitable. I think I just typed out a video idea.

    • @slurp50s
      @slurp50s หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RedFoxCrypto I'd love to see a video about that. Honestly, you brought up a really great point that I didn't consider. The topic of loyalty is a really good one. I'd also argue that ASIC mining forces loyalty. Yes there's ASIC's that can switch what they mine, but they don't have the same range to switch as GPU's.
      Stability, lower latency, and so on is a huge advantage of ASIC mining. But I didn't consider the loyalty factor. But, I'd still think there's a solid argument about GPU mining being a large factor towards a POW success. But I'd love to see a future video on the subject :)

  • @captainhappy
    @captainhappy หลายเดือนก่อน

    You have to understand, that PoW as a mechanism validating blocks is getting very old fashioned and simply not suitable for any bigger projects. For small startups and such it's fine, but the bigger the project, the more problems you are going to see with PoW. Miners are of course dependable of PoW but if you are planning to make income that way you should also realize more and more projects are going to find way or other to change their dependancy from PoW to something else. ETH example to PoS is already done, and at least so far there has been no big news about how PoW to PoS change would have make anything broken, quite the contrary it seems ETH tx fees have been much lower since the ETH merge. If you are investing money, I wouldn't recommend to put all in to PoW, but find some other sectors too which could be profitable in case PoW just doesn't anymore return to to such profitable thing as it was with ETH at least some time.
