  • Today we are at Derek’s house to perform a mowing project with our 1025r 60 inch drive over mower deck. Turns out, we failed to complete the job. Find out why, and see the durability of the 60D mower deck! Depending on what you’re mowing - do you even need a rotary cutter?

    I had the same problem as you before . I saw an add for cut my over grown fields 2 times for a good hunting spot . I had a b 7100 with a 4 foot bush hog at the time and it beat me and the tractor up. I did 3/4 the field and went home with a flat tire and never went back!

      craig bonney and to anyone else. ALWAYS Look Before You Leap or in this case look before you commit. That field alone didn’t look bad but for some that are over grown etc I suggest doing a small walk if possible or in my case use a drone and just take a good look prior to agreement. Will give u a better look into how much you can charge or find possible unknown hidden objects that might damage your equipment

    Random tip in a situation like this. When you are going to leave behind a bunch of clippings, and have the option, I like to cut in a giant square or circle pattern or multiple of them. This way you are not shooting the clippings back onto the area you just cut in the previous pass. You end up leaving a single or multiple rows of clippings you can pick up after the cut.

    You really should not shut off an overheating engine, you should let it idle to keep the waterpump circulating the coolant through the radiator and allow the fan to do its job at least until the temp comes back down. Clean the beard off the grill, clean the radiator screen, and also the hydraulic oil cooler too. Carrying a small battery powered leaf blower along with me comes in handy in these types of conditions.

    • @TheLittleGreenTractor
      @TheLittleGreenTractor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, I agree with you. The same concept goes for an overheated car, etc. It really is better to keep the engine running in order to circulate the coolant and continue air flow. In this case I didn't want the suction from the radiator fan to suck the weed particles into the radiator itself versus the screen. I momentarily shut the engine off but started it back up as soon as I was able. Great comment.

    This was a really good instructional video. Newbies to any tractors that do grass/brush work for the first time do not know how fast a tractor can overheat from just what you have demonstrated. Glad to see it has an automatic shutoff for overheat, that is nice to know. Didn't always be that way.

  • @rcclassiccrawlers4368

    When it over heats, you should always reduce RPM’s to an idle and let it run and never shut it off unless you have something leaking coolant other than the over flow bottle/container.

    Dash, It's generaly a good idea to drive back and forth in a new field to find the rocks or other obstacles that may cause problems first.
    I have foothill property in Coarsegold and know how dusty it gets mowing with my 1989 Craftsman Gt-18 with 44" deck.. I've litterly been covered in chsff from moving a couple of acres of field grass.

    For that field you need a flail mower. As far as reverse air flow not getting clogged, my X495 AWS has reverse flow and clogs just as fast as my 1025r TLB. My 3046r TL doesn't clog as easy as it is much taller. You best change the engine oil after that job as you pretty much cooked the oil unless you have full synthetic like Rotella T6. Thanks for sharing your field mowing experience. I plan to buy a 1025 or 2025r next year, and I have debated buying a rotary cutter or not. I only have higher weeds along a 1//4 mile driveway. I am not sure it is enough to justify a bush hog or the like. I like your idea of floating your loader to find those gopher mounds.. What was the issue with your front tire? Appreciated your video, and my core hurt from watching you "riding the bronco". :)

    • @TheLittleGreenTractor
      @TheLittleGreenTractor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you liked the video, Ron! I would imagine your belly mower would handle those weeds no problem. I am surprised at the strength and durability of the belly mower. I have a 4ft King Kutter rotary cutter that I have yet to feature in a video, but it is a beast. It cost $1,100 which is substantially less money compared to the 60D belly mower. More food for thought depending on how big your property is. I have both and I love them. My front tire broke the bead and leaked out the air. I assume it was from the lump and rough terrain. It’s possible I didn’t have it inflated correctly also. I hadn’t checked my tire pressure since I bought the machine... anyway they tried using bead sealer but it ultimately didn’t hold up. I took it back a second time and they ended up putting a tube in it. Worked great ever since. Thanks for your comments, Ron!

    I’m in my 16th season of mowing several acres of rough pasture with a 2305 and 60” RFM. The advantage of the RFM and rotary cutter is that the mess is happening behind me. I trapped 29 moles the year before I started mowing. The first few years were a mess. It’s still a bucking bronco show. If it wasn’t mine I wouldn’t do it. That customer needs his own machine.
    I’m debating about a 1025R and MMM in the future. Your videos are helpful to me.

I couldn't agree more about the RFM or rotary cutter regarding the advantages to it being behind you. I now use my rotary cutter more than the belly mower for tall grass where the terrain is uncertain. It at least keeps the dirt and debris out of my face!

    II get my 1025R next week and its my 6th and last tractor. Two had the radiator reversed, Kubota, as you noted. It does not make a difference where the air pulls into the radiator, all the screens get clogged. I say its a 50-50 either way. But thinking back , especially with belly mower, the reverse radiator can be more of an issue. For sure if you need to wash out the radiator itself, the rear one is more of a hassle. The marketing around the rear mounted radiator staying cleaner is BS, nothing special about that design.

    is the deck suppose to be tilted up in the back slightly? or completely even front to back?

    • @TheLittleGreenTractor
      @TheLittleGreenTractor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! The lifting mechanism for the mower deck is near the rear of the mower deck and has a slight tilt when fully raised. I have my mower deck at the original settings from the dealer. When you lower it down it seems to level out. The mower deck lift height can be adjusted for more clearance if desired. There are adjustments for the rear lift arms and front hook assembly, though I think the stock settings are just fine.

    • @GitSumGaming
      @GitSumGaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLittleGreenTractor Thanks for the response! I think mine has more than a slight tilt now. I let the dealer service it and when they brought it back it looks titled up in the back noticeably. When I lower the deck it starts to even out but it still looks like its tilted up in the back too much. Before it was pretty much even front to back maybe a VERY slight tilt in the back. Anything I can measure to see if its right or wrong?
      One more question. Do you have to unplug your mowing deck hydraulic line and plug in the front end loader hydraulic line to be able to use the loader? I know with the new ones I dont think you have to do that but mine is a 2012 and I have to unplug the line for the deck which makes it so I cant move the deck up and down...but then I plug in the FEL line so I can move the box back and forward. I wondered if they made an adapter or kit so you didnt have to do that.

    • @TheLittleGreenTractor
      @TheLittleGreenTractor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My apologies for the delayed reply here! Here is a link to one of TTWT’s video on mower deck adjustment that I found extremely helpful. It talks about the correct adjustments to make it fit right. Granted, his is a 2019 model 1025r I believe, but some of the adjustments may be similar if not the same. th-cam.com/video/5_WG_Wl2RnM/w-d-xo.html
      Regarding the mower deck hydraulic line - I don’t have any hydraulic connection for my particular mower. I also don’t have to disconnect anything to install the mower, so I’m assuming they made some substantial updates since 2012. That sounds so incredibly cumbersome to have to toggle the hydraulics like that. I hope this is at least somewhat helpful...

    • @GitSumGaming
      @GitSumGaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLittleGreenTractor I guess your mowing deck raises/lowers using the lever on the right side of the tractor that also controls the back linkages? Yes it really is irritating having to disconnect the mowing deck hydraulic line to be able to use the front end loader.
      I think there are 3 diff types:
      Mechanical - tied to the 3 pt hitch and is raised / lowered using the 3 pt lever
      Hydraulic - hose plugs into the loader valve and is raised / lowered using the loader lever or using the third SCV
      Independent - raised / lowered using a dash mount switch, no hoses to deal with just the switch and the height knob

      Ever so slightly tilted up in the back is optimal. The blades will cut in the front then they will not drag in the grass in the back.

I have had the tractor start to get hot from grass or the fuzzy stuff building up on both the intake and the screen. Usually its not a big problem but you need to stay on top of it. I use a long air tube to blow out the radiator. The opening of this video shows the screen on the Kubota.

    Was just wondering if you could have taken 1/2 or 3/4th bits out of the field path you were following and if that might have been easier on the mower and tractor... know it would have slowed the process, but may not have beaten up on the system. Rocks are not the friends of any blade. Also have you thought about buying the load and go brackets so you can easily clean and change/sharpen blades on the mower... Love your video's and in the process of buying the 1025 tractor with same deck, the grapple you purchased and front fork lift...
