Rewatching this now, I can't help but feel a sad vibe from it. Everytime Joe points out Scout's problems you can see it in his eyes that he knows whats coming. Rest easy Scout, you were a good boy
I think the reason everyone loves this video is because of how you present everything as if the viewer is actually there, you show all the preparations and techniques, the lovely scenery, the homey tent, and your lovely dog.
Ogyen Gyatso I agree, I just found this channel and this is literally the first video I've seen, I like how he's showing literally everything. and he makes it feel like your there, just found my new favourite youtuber;)
I really like his videos and I'm a new subscriber but he took a little getting used to for me as he looks fairly like my brother lol, without the piercings in my brothers case, made it slightly weird :D
I think it's also because there's absolutely NO music. If this were a tv show the producers/directors would fill every possible moment with acoustic guitar great outdoors type Muzak that THEY felt best enhanced the footage. Without that dictated guff and without ad breaks, we're left to process the scenes for ourselves and come to our own peaceful serene conclusions about the atmosphere of it all! It's a real privilege to hear the melting snow, the rain, the boiling water, even the zips, his loyal dog, the chopping wood, the uninterrupted sounds of the fire and the food cooking, ready to eat. And of course, best of all, we can be trusted to listen to the silence! What a fantastic channel! He deserves every success for his efforts.
idk if the feeling I'm trying to describe has a name or even if others experience it...But that feeling when your camping like this out in the cold and you spent time preparing camp and when finally lay down in the tent, with the warmth of the fire, and hearing the snow or rain hitting the tent you just feel like everything is right in the world...Its not feeling accomplished because I feel it when I didn't even set up the tent...But its the feeling of shelter against the rain or cold that just makes you feel like a baby in the arms of mother nature... Even if I didn't describe it right I know I'm trying to convey a feeling others get as well...
Troy Stuart yeah dude. You can't beat that feeling. Laying down in a tent all snug in a sleeping bag after a long day out in the wilderness (where we would naturally live) and all you have to deal with is survival. Humans have one real goal in life.. To survive... survival is not something we worry about nowadays.. Houses and school and work aren't technically normal when you think about it. Shelter, food, water, survive. We have adrenaline to fight to survive, we have nerves to protect from harm. (Wow I wrote a lot for a TH-cam comment)
brokenwifi yeah bro...the world was a better place when we were all living off the land but now they make it dam near impossible to do that...every inch of land is " owned " and you need permits or a licensed to basically breath. My brother was homeless in Colorado and got 3 tickets for having a fire to keep warm and its not like he was in the city..He was in the woods and he needed the fire to not freeze but that's my point...You have to work and contribute to this society, they say were free but we have basically no choice in the matter and the way I see it were not much more than slaves..Slaves that can pick our jobs...
I know exactly what you meant and I felt it from this video as well. It's basic comfort. It's knowing that the elements are harsh outside, but in here you have conquered them. It's such a calm and relaxing feeling.
What you don't realize. . . for every shot, he walked ahead, painstakingly set up the camera tripod, then walked back, grabbed his stuff again, and hiked past or struggled up that slope, then went back, packed up the camera, hiked a bit more, then repeated the whole process. Again and again and again, for every shot, throughout the whole damn video. This genre of videography owes Dick Proeneke a quiet respectful nod. And if you're watching this, but don't know about Dick Proeneke, look him up. Nicely done Joe. Your dog rocks.
This is one of my favorite videos on TH-cam. It's just so cozy with that stove and Scout. (Rest in peace, sweet puppers.) I've seen it so many times but I always get upset when he finds water in his tent. That and the high temperature must have been such a bummer!
Oh my god. Your voice is so gentle and soothing. And that tent looks so warm and cosy. And that stove, so tiny!!! And the dog, what a good boy!!! Most wholesome video ever. It just cleaned my broken soul.
I feel the same way. I've gotten totally hooked on watching these videos. So much violence and nonsense on TV and internet, it is so refreshing to run across these. I feel like I am right there too, minus freezing my butt off. LOVE the dog. I also love it when he cooks and eats a big ole hunk of meat and drinks beer.
This episode seriously has it all man....snow, really cool dog, really cool tent, really cool stove.....and beer. only thing i'd add is whiskey or moonshine. cheers!
This video was the first one i saw from this channel, and i immediately loved it. Not just because the place itself, the peace, and all the things i learn thanks to it, but also because of Scout. You can tell that he was a loved dog, and he lived his life how every dog deserve it. Thanks for everything, Rest in peace Scout, you will be missed.
this is probably the perfect life combination in one video. Canada, Winter, Outdoor, Dog, Bushcraft. Some Turkey Bacon and Beer and I would die from happiness
The relationship you have with Scout is so beautiful, definitely tell you two love each other and it's easy to tell there is a very balanced relationship between both of you.
Thank God Scout was there to track down the beer. Also thanks for respecting his pain and doing the best you can for him. He is a majestic canine and apparently a great buddy. Stay safe out there.
Really enjoyed this video.. Living in Queensland Australia, snow is unheard of.. Great watching the adventure. Scout is majestic and I'm sure he really loved the experience being with his human.
This video came up in my feed. About a guy and his dog camping in a canvas tent in the mountains in winter and snow. And I watched the whole thing? Why does this appeal to me? There is something so primitive about surviving with the basic essentials, and yes that includes beer.
A dog is always good to have around, you won’t have to be worried too much about food, the dog could easily keep you alive for a month.very cleaver of joe to keep the dog around during his solo camping trips.
One of your videos was the first bush craft vid I had ever watched. I loved that you rambled on throughout the video and explained what and why you were doing things. I have loved your videos more than any of the others... especially those in the snow! So, if I start watching any other vids and they don't talk, I don't watch! Love your style! By the way, I am a 68 year young woman. My husband can't understand why I am so fascinated by all of it. I told him he should be thankful that I watch them because if we were ever stranded in the woods, I could build us a shelter!😆
Started following you about a year ago but haven't really been able to watch any videos of you and scout simply because I had to put my yellow lab/best friend down a few years ago and it still kills me to think about. Knowing what you went through with scout just brings it all back. Just recently I've been able to start watching scout and you and the bond you two had was incredible. So sorry for your loss but so happy for you that you had all the time that you did with each other. Keep up the great videos and thanks for sharing with all of us.
Had to put our border collie down last year, wife and I still grieving. Loved your video, just awesome. Scout put a smile on our faces and and warmth back in our hearts.
My wife was grieving bad for 15y.o. Pooch that started to suffer and had put down - in truth I was happy to get a 6 or 12 months break from the responsibilities BUT after 8 weeks of the blues the only solution was another dog - a Tibetan terrier - it worked a treat - instant cure - all 3 VERY happy now ..
Border collies are the best I have one here lying beside me she is 6 years old so hard to say goodbye when they get to old . they are in doggy heaven having a great time I think.
Crazy......come here by accident, watched all, subed in sec. Then quickly went to the basement and lit wood stove. I love the burning wood smell, filing of fire heat. Joe, thanks for that!
4:21 is a phenomenon called “etiolation”. The trees are competing for sun, so they’re tryin to grow tall before they spread out. Just in case anyone didn’t know who might want to.. cheers👍😀
get a bunch of dollar store car windshield shades the thermal reflective kind can get a ruler and measure around inside of your tent and take the shades and hot glue them together then cut them out into the shape of the bottom of your tent that's a cheap thermal barrier when when you are camping on the snow it's cheap effective and Light and you can Fold It Up easily
His dog is on painkillers, arthritis meds, and joint/ligament vitamins prior to this video or the snow. The problem is in his hips. Hip dysplasia is common in German shepherds because of idiotic breeding for that sloped leaning stance the dog shows want to see. Keeping him out of the cold entirely would probably help from worsening his arthritic flare ups... just like a human with arthritis it's often worse in cold or rainy weather. Unfortunately, it's progressive and he'll keep getting worse regardless of the weather. Socks won't help him :(
TH-cam just put this in my recommendations and reminded me that this was the first video I saw on your channel and it really got me into bushcraft, and made me a fan of yours. It's bittersweet, seeing Scout again. I never even met him, but I miss him so much, as I'm sure you do, too. RIP. I wish you the best of luck, Joe. You are the man!
Greatly enjoyed the video. Scout is just a wonderful looking dog and enjoy every second with him. Sadly our fur kids don't spend enough time on earth with us so we have to cherish every moment we have with them. Surgery might be an option for his hips but keep him as comfortable as you can. Hope to see him in more upcoming vids.
Great video. My dog had the same hip problems when she got older, our vet recommended a raw food diet for her and it did wonders for her hips. Go to any butcher ask for scrap cuts and tailings and added salmon oil. Down side is the 💩smells 10x worse, but the quality of our dogs life improved dramatically. Hope it helps if you give it a try.
when he struggles up that hill at about 3:40 did he struggle up it to put his camera there and then go back down to record him struggling up it again 😂😂
I used to watch your videos all the time, but I hadn't in a little while. This video was great, I love your style of shooting and explaining things, it's super entertaining. I've been following your channel for a few years now and it's nice to see your audience grow and your content still retain its great quality. All the best, -Liam
AWW 🥰 That was a special moment. To hear you saying.. ‘Scout is Tripped out’. I agree... That boy is so majestic. Such a beauty I Love watching and catching up with your older videos.
I knew not that the dog is dead, I am so sorry, he's so majestic and it's so good to watch you two. I know you have enjoyed your time with him, may he rip and you find strength. Respect and love
As i said before, this is very relaxing to watch for me in a stressed life, and i realy like that the videos are like a tv show around 45 minutes, instead of the rest of youtubers videos who are Waaaaay to short in my opinion.
tobsk84+Nice collection ya' got there. Which one is your personal favorite? I have a favorite out of my 5, it's a midnight wine Strat w/maple neck, oh, it's the one I'm playing in the profile pic. Got it set up to stay in tune while using the whammy bar, replace the pick ups with all EMG actives through a Marshall 50 watt and a line 6 HD 500 for my effects. It's got a Jeff Beck tone/feel to it. What a fine implement of expression it is.
Oh my god your dog is just so cute and he listens to every single thing that you say! I miss camping so much! My dad taught me on how to camp since i was 10 but me being this spoilt brat i was literally being this rebelious ass kid and kept on rejecting him but still had to follow him because i mean he was my dad and he is still my dad lol and it was kinda a family adventure all the time so i had no choice but to follow him. And now at 26 i miss doing this thing! Plus we used to fish all the time! My dad would set up a camp by the river and he would teach me how to swim and fish and let me do my things after that but seriously i just love camping and watching your videos bringing back the old memories! I wish i can do that with a dog too!
i love how he is you know surviving in the wild and doing something with his life and im just over here sipping coca-cola out of a cat water bottle while sitting in my bed
Rest in piece bud, theres a lot of friends that will remember you. Goog dog and fantastic companion. You've been ready to rock any forest with Joe. We will miss you bud, and never forget.

Mr_I_Comment_On_Everything_Man yeah he passed a few months ago, joe made a video its called “Goodbye and thank you for everything”
yes he is a good companion.

I should not had to read this comment. =ó((
Now I'm gonna watch this video in an entire other way.

Thought I check out a few minutes of this video but I sit and watched the whole damn thing. Great job man, enjoyed it!
nice!
Marty Rodgers. Some of JRB camping videos play like "real" TV shows. You should check out some of the older ones. He does a good job.
Same here man. Great video and I didn't stop it or check the time once....
Marty Rodgers I did the same! great vid
Same. it's 4:48 in the morning but it was worth watching it. Made me wanna go camping

I have all of his DVDs. Amazing
The Dick Proeneke videos especially Alone in the Wilderness is the o.g. of outdoor videos.

rmcdaniel423 oh I thought he just had cameras everywhere thanks for clearing this up
Rest In Paradise Mr Scooter! You'll be missed! Thank you for the good videos with Joe. Go get all of the sticks up there.

Dog gets attacked by a tree in the beginning. He's like "wtf is this shit poking me in the back, ahrr," and bites the branch off! Love the dog!
I'll confess, while the guy was entertaining, it was the dog I fell in love with and made the video seem to fly by...
spacecadetz21 😂😂😂
22:55 "It's dead on the inside, but not rotted"
Sounds like I would also be perfect firewood
Hahaha 6:49 when the tree comes down scout can’t believe his luck at what a big stick he just found!
You’re one of those people who are badass... without trying
Really enjoyed this video.. Living in Queensland Australia, snow is unheard of.. Great watching the adventure. Scout is majestic and I'm sure he really loved the experience being with his human.
@@popiuoyers Since you brought up the subject of morons, WHY ARE YOU YELLING, and I don't think you know badass from a sewer grate, dudeling.

Strangely satisfying to watch

This video is so chill
scout is the shit!! he seems like such a good and well behaved dog. peace!!
YYC Flyguy You should talk to vet before, because many older dogs cant handle alot protein anymore and might get issues with meat.
Better yet put your dog on a raw vegetables and fruits diet. Your dog will have a whole new and amazing life
ThErElOaDeR99 in heaven.
Yea, dogs are mainly carnivores... which means they eat meat
ThErElOaDeR99 dogs are meant to eat raw meat straight vegetables won't be good
when he struggles up that hill at about 3:40 did he struggle up it to put his camera there and then go back down to record him struggling up it again 😂😂
Ashley Swain the pains of good visuals
Ashley Swain well when he put it up there he wouldn't have had his sled with him
Or maybe he put his camera there while he was still at the bottom and then proceeded to go up the hill.
+Childhood Obesity & Soda did he throw it or what
Ashley Swain dog put it up there
Thats the happiest dog ever. I am happy to see him.

Got recommended this video... watched 2 minute... subscribed.
I used to watch your videos all the time, but I hadn't in a little while. This video was great, I love your style of shooting and explaining things, it's super entertaining. I've been following your channel for a few years now and it's nice to see your audience grow and your content still retain its great quality.
All the best,
-Liam
AWW 🥰 That was a special moment. To hear you saying.. ‘Scout is Tripped out’.
I agree... That boy is so majestic. Such a beauty
I Love watching and catching up with your older videos.
I feel like I've watched this video 8 times or more, and it never gets old.

Such a faithful and loving dog. Consider yourself blessed.
Bear Grylls needs a whole crew to accomplish what Joe does by himself. You're the pro...Joe.
Luka Dragunov EL OH EL!
Bear lives in trees
Would love to see Joe drink he own peepee
SocialdDem lol, you pervert hahaha
Bear doesn't have candies in his earlobes, or are they extra rations?
Of all solo w/scout videos I've seen through the years, this is my favorite !!! Don't even know how many times I have watched it 👍👍
Just found this guys channel three days ago and I can’t stop watching
I knew not that the dog is dead, I am so sorry, he's so majestic and it's so good to watch you two. I know you have enjoyed your time with him, may he rip and you find strength. Respect and love
Your dog makes everything better 😃
great video, cool companion. I hope he's doing well.. god bless
Camping, beer & Dog! Perfect video! :)
The dog seems right at home. Love his antics. What a buddy.
Literally all of your comments are positive and that’s what you would expect from a channel with only good videos
As i said before, this is very relaxing to watch for me in a stressed life, and i realy like that the videos are like a tv show around 45 minutes, instead of the rest of youtubers videos who are Waaaaay to short in my opinion.
33:55 is that wolfpack?
Coyotes.
tobsk84+Nice collection ya' got there.
I use tubescreamer and JCM 900, and the gibson LP standard for rock. And when i play metal i use a epiphone explorer with emg 81 , 85.
Nothing soothes the soul, while camping in the winter snow wilderness, like some good warm beaver.
I like how this sentence works for any interpretation of the word beaver. x) Poetic in a crude way.
Giggity.
or even some red snapper
I love how his dog is so obedient and stays by his side no matter what.
41:50 "dead inside but not yet rotted" A perfect description of me.
Me too
Jhon Doux, perfect description of me
Come on guys. Get back to being alive and happy! :)
I hope this is an "lol" not a "fml".
KingAverage 1990 what's fml?
The fact that you didnt spill any water was so impressive when you slipped😂😂😂😂
This video is so well made. At one point, he’s giving directions...and I’m nodding like I’m in the woods with him.
Greetings from Colorado!!
Love a Scout throwback.
I wish i can do that with a dog too!
you spoiled ungrateful brat. Just jking lol, good to hear you appreciated your outdoor experiences with the fam.
i love how he is you know surviving in the wild and doing something with his life and im just over here sipping coca-cola out of a cat water bottle while sitting in my bed
