I think he's referring to the lecture Leonard Bernstein gave at Harvard. If you type "music phonology" in the search engine on youtube, you'll find his lecture.

Melody is the face, harmony is the soul. It seems that creating formulae for writing songs produces songs that sound formulaic. I would love to hear one of these students he is coaching write something that is memorable, rather than making things that fit the "guidelines", and therefore sound generic. I'll keep browsing. He knows what he means, and is a respected instructor, but in the end - it's the music.

a true artist needs no course, you can't teach inspiration

      He can.
Go read his book, listen to his course (available at Coursera) and you shall see.
      It is simply amazing.

+Time+space=perspective a lazy artist needs no course. I think I can teach how to find inspiration.

A course can provide inspiration. Teaching is an art itself, close mindedness is your enemy. I may be inferring too deeply into your comment but It seems clear you want to be a song called true artist yourself. Are you waiting for someone to tell you that it's okay to be what you want to be? The most valuable times you will ever know are also be the most difficult ones you've ever seen. You'll see more than that and you'll be ready when the time comes, but you'll never see that day if you don't look at yourself look at your life and start making decisions that you believe in.
