What people often forget, is that there was a lot less mental health awareness back then. Right from early childhood, a lot of conditions such as autism, ADHD, bipolar etc went undiagnosed. This had an affect into adulthood. Many of them became alienated, resentful of society and escaped into the rave scene with like-minded people as a form of therapy. Drugs and binge drinking followed. Moff's middle class home shows how unconnected his family really was. The dinner scene is a classic. His chosen family of ravers provided him with the best support he ever had. Moff had issues but that's the point of the film. His raver friends understood. The music and connection to people make a grown man feel euphoria like never before. Trance music was looked down on in my home growing up. It was seen as kitsch and low-brow. It didn't stop me loving it. I understand this film is controversial, but it is a reminder of how 90s rave culture was.
I recently found out about this movie (because Andrew Lincoln has a small role in it), but I swear to God, this is the best movie I saw recently. So good, so creative, amazing soundtrack, and also crazy how relatable as a 19 yr old nowadays.
A film for those who know. Respect to all the ravers
Still works 19 years later.
Totally agree

How come 20 years later we youngsters still relate so much to this?

Let's face it folks. Many of the people in that scene are now in their 40s and sitting around complaining about people half their age.
I know I am.
Im not
I've never seen this version. In the release I have, it cuts off after "It's hard being cool". This was WAY better!
