    Excuse my poor grammar I didn't realize until editing that I said "casted" rather than "cast" ten million times..... or maybe just four times but still!

    I was in this movie. I played the guy burning down the village. It was my first movie. I'm so happy you guys like this film. We all worked incredibly hard on it. We all knew at the time we we're making something special and different. It was such a honor to work with such a talented cast. Malick is a true genius.

    I actually did a double take, I had to make sure it was really this movie that you were reacting to. I love this movie! Thank you! My favorite Malick movie is this and "Days Of Heaven". He made two great movies in the 70s, and then nothing for 20 years. Great reaction, especially with the Jamestown information.

    I usually practice piano while watching movie reactions since they aren't mentally taxing but, I had to stop and give this my undivided attention cause it was just too captivating. Thank you for the upload.

    I think Q'orianka Kilcher did a fantastic job. /10:44 - cutest moment on any of your videos to date. :D / Absolutely this movie isn't for everybody, and I know you understand the reason I had recommended it was based on your interest in the subject! (I believe I even said that it was not a movie I'd recommend to just any ole reactor!) I think you did a fantastic edit of this movie, and really enjoyed the reaction Ok, just a couple of more things (that I'm sure will take two or three paragraphs to write!)
    Everything you're saying, I think I can speak to this way: Malick (who is a very enigmatic, mysterious guy, you won't find interviews with him anywhere!), he films a script......and then ends up editing it into something completely different (and, after "New World", increasingly abstract). Christopher Plummer says that "The New World" was one of the most beautiful scripts he had ever read.....and when he saw the finished film, he was so angry that he has said he would never work with Malick again. Other actors love the way he works (Christian Bale and Jessica Chastain, for instance). So a lot of the character development and love story stuff that you feel is missing was probably in the original script, it probably was filmed. Sean Penn has also talked about how different the scripts for "Tree Of Life" and "Thin Red Line" were compared to what's on the screen. In "the Thin Red Line", the main character was Adrian Brody. In the movie.....Adrian Brody doesn't even have ONE LINE! He's in, like, two shots! They shot they entire movie, everyone thinking Brody was the main character! He had to find out when he attended the premiere, thinking he was the star of the movie! :D
    Ha, not to "clap back", as you say but.....gaaaaa.... it's even worse in "Titanic"! :P Why invent fictional characters at all? Why do we need a fictional (and, frankly, hard-to-believe) romance/action story, with the most formulaic chase scenes, complete with guns being whipped out and handcuff escapes and naked Kate Winslet (and what's with her giving the finger? We're talking 1912, right?!), why all that when we've got an already dramatic situation going on with the sinking of a ship? (whew, ok, thanks for letting me vent, Shelby!) "A Night To Remember" doesn't have any love story in it and is a much better telling of that event, in my opinion. Have you seen that one? If you're a Titanic person, you should watch that one! (on or off the channel!) It's only an hour and a half! The only thing they get wrong in it is the ship not breaking in half, but it is still spectacular visually, and emotionally wrenching, and a much more authentic telling of the story. And it doesn't turn into "The Poseidon Adventure"! (all the swimming through the hallways and having to get to the top deck, that's all out of "Poseidon Adventure"). Ok. Sorry! I know you love that movie, so let me stop there. I'm laughing as I type this, I hope you're laughing too! Feel free to put me in my place!
    Absolutely a script telling it from the tribe's point of view, Smith being a villain, with no love story, that would also be great. Maybe WE should write the script! :D Honestly though, I thought this movie didn't "glorify" Smith, and it's sympathies was with the native population, not the Europeans. Ultimately, it's us that falls in love with Pocahontas, don't you think? Which is why we feel the tragedy when she dies of the European diseases. She's a symbol of everything that subsequently happened. And that part IS accurate; the point of the movie is accurate.
    I hope you didn't regret watching it! As I said, I know it's not for everybody. I thought you did a great reaction for it, and all your points are valid.

      @shelbynnave  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I absolutely don't regret watching it at all! (Sorry if I came off a little too overly critical)
      You made a lot of really good points that I didn't realize at the time of filming this and I totally see your perspective! Especially about the Titanic stuff, now that you said it I agree that a fictional romance in that movie is also very unnecessary... 😅 I probably shouldn't have brought it up as an example at all given that I'm pretty biased towards it haha.
      I'm also inclined to agree with your points that Pocahontas is a symbol of what happened to the native population, I suppose in my critique I was so hung up on feeling like Pocahontas and the other characters weren't developed very well that I sort of overlooked that. And now especially hearing that Malick has a tendency of changing his movies from the original script (I didn't know he was known for doing that lol) it makes a lot more sense to me now.
      So thank you for broadening my perspective on this film, I greatly appreciate your insights on it!

    Her name was also not Pocahontas, that's a nickname, her real name was Matoaka. And Smith technically is a villain, he used Pocahontas to bridge the gap between their peoples and then he left without giving her a second thought. The whole reason that there's even this myth of Pocahontas and Smith being romantically linked is BECAUSE of John Smith, he waited until most of the people that knew him around the time that he was in Jamestown died before writing letters and stories about their FAKE romance, great guy /s. Smith was an opportunist.

    • @sharpaycutie2
      @sharpaycutie2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smith was not a villain. Her father gave her a peace offering when she married Rolfe. But Rolfe genuinely fell in love with her. Sad she died but so did a lot of women during that time. Plus he never wrote about their romance . Ever. It never desisted

    The reason this movie was so chaste is because the girl who played Pocahontas was I think 14 at the time. At the time inside edition and those kinds of shows were gossiping about how Colin Farrell, who was a heart throb and had a sex video come out at the time, was going to be acting with this little girl. It was a juicy story at the time.

    In this "Pocahontas" Ratcliffe and Wingfield are in a really small role, Ratcliffe is only mentioned by name a couple of times and Wingfield's role is also pretty short, in this film the tension between the English and the Indians is actually in the role of evil. Wingfield acted as an antagonist in previous live-action versions and Ratcliffe in Disney versions.
