On a rewatch the true joy of seeing Helen posed as Mona Lisa surfaces / and the glass destruction scene follows Miles instruction on how to be a disruptor exactly, including the double finger gesture.

7:20 RIP Stephen Sondheim and Angela Landsbury! 💔
Stephen Sondheim passed away this year at 93 I think. He wrote Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods. He also wrote the lyrics to West Side story. Sondheim Wrote a mystery film called The Last of Shiela, which Rian Johnson said he drew inspiration from. The man was a legend.
Angela Landsbury, in addition to starring in Murder She Wrote, was also the original Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd on Broadway.
As a die hard Musicals nerd, I literally squealed when I saw their cameos. Especially playing Among Us.

Actually Stephen Sondheim died last year right after Thanksgiving and Angela Lansbury is the one who died this year, but ya, they were both absolutely amazing people who were true legends in musical communities

Janelle did legitimately play two characters: She portrayed Andi in the flashbacks-- when the movie showed how all the friends gathered together at the Glass Onion and she introduced Miles to the group, then when Andi told Miles she would not support KLEAR and split the company, in the courtroom, and again when Miles poisoned her in her kitchen. She played Helen the rest of the time. An interesting detail most people have failed to mention is the difference in Helen's and Andi's hair part. Helen's hair is parted on the right side and Andi's on the left. This is something that tends to occur with identical twins who are essentially mirror images of each other. Subliminally, this would have been the first clue to the group that something wasn't quite right with Andi. Claire feeling as though something was off with Andi could be attributed to her brain subconsciously noting the difference in the hair part, but her consciously dismissing it.
As for GLASS ONION, overall, bravo! 👏🏼 👏🏼 All should "take a moment to just "inbreathiate" its brilliance. This word was the first real clue of Miles' colossal stupidity. Blanc eventually told the audience, during the pre-dinner planning discussion with Helen on the beach, that Miles would have to be stupid to have been the one to kill Andi. Most of us, of course, brushed that very obvious first clue off, because Blanc did. He came right back around to the very first realization-- Miles is a dumba**, so of course he would do it. Man, I love how consistently clever the movie is.
I agree with you that THE LAST JEDI is a beautiful movie, definitely the best of the sequel trilogy. Rian got the best work out of all the actors, the cinematography was glorious, and the script was the least derivative.
    Great watch along and review!

I think one people forget too is the reason why he dismissed Miles (before going to the island, in Helen's flashbacks).
He says that Miles is too smart to kill Andi. Because there's a chance of the envelope getting out (aka making him prime suspect). And he could get someone else to do it.
And then he realizes: Miles is an idiot. So he wouldn't have realized this.

One detail I catched in my first rewatch and I loved is, and this is not as important or as impressive as other fun facts but I found ot genius, is when Miles is about to give Duke his glass, he constantly pointed at Birdie's dress "Look at her" "Look at the colors on the dress" and the other characters where like "Yeah, Birdie" including Duke, that simple dialogue not only managed to distract the characters of what he was doing, but he also subconsciously distracted the audience. Brilliant.

I appreciate that you have a long post-movie chat. So many reaction channels fail to sum up their thoughts afterwards or discuss the movie as a whole to really open up a discussion, they just see the credits and go "Thanks for watching. Like and subscribe, bye!"

@7:56, we hear a gunshot. But because we assume that a gunshot would be out of place, we dismiss that initial assessment and went with a more "realistic" or "suitable to the situation" explanation of that sound - a vehicle backfiring. That immediate jump was followed by the sound of a loud motorcycle which just solidifies our adjustment of expectations. ONLY to be followed by continuous gunshots seconds later.
That is basically the entire movie. At one point or another, we suspect who the "bad guy" is but dismisses ourselves because of one reason or another.
This scene essentially foreshadows what the movie is at its core - our initial instinct / deduction is correct all along.

well hello fellow tlj enjoyers and intellectuals!! knives out is one of my all-time favorite films for both quality and also personal reasons but i still saw this movie three times in the theaters and i loved that i kept catching new details every time! cant wait to see your reaction :)
edit: the Mona Lisa sounds adds to the tension, like you can see the characters visibly flinching sometimes, and often it punctuates the dialogue. the closeups are to underline the way miles talks about her as an inscrutable observer and the way andi identifies with her, knowing more than she lets on

This was fantastic, Derek! Your commentary had me crying laughing at times. It's amazing how many things you pick up on during subsequent rewatches, like Blanc referring to "Andi" as Helen before she got shot. Rian Johnson did a wonderful job on this film, and Janelle Monae is a superstar!

The painting was to divert your attention from what was really happening. Like the cast, everyone's attention was on something else. Where it was the painting's case opening and closing, or watching Birdie dance. The whole idea was so you didn't pay attention to Miles handing his drink to Duke. So when Miles said Duke took his drink, that's what we all remember. 😅

In THE GLASS ONION she played the smart-mouthed mother of 'Duke Cody' in a few scenes near the beginning... had some great, sarcastic lines. #SleepyWaffles #RianJohnson #GlassOnion

jack dorsey is infamous for not having any sart devices or mobiles in his home, pretty sure the fax machine is a play on that. i think the over the top dumbass billionaire who capitalises on the people closest is also very zuckerburg- i thought that dave batistas character bringing his young hot girlfriends by was also a little epstieny nod too- as well as the secret island that all the locals wanna stay away from. Cant wait for the next one, love that benoit's partner is hugh grant and that he plays among us with other celebrities, including angela landsbury rip famous for murder she wrote!

I do think the sounds and shots of the Mona Lisa were to distract the viewers so they'd miss some of the clues, and it definitely worked, in my case.

i just loved the placement as a Chekov's gun. I also loved how the destruction of it was foreshadowed at the very beginning in the scene where miles serenades dave batista's girlfriend on the beach before just discarding the valuable beatles guitar with no thought, because it was "worth it to see the look on your face" as it not only shows how miles will discard anything of value when it no longer serves him- and then the Mona lisa is destroyed with no thought because Helen knew it would be worth it "to see the look on his face"
