  • How do you tie your Ghungroos? Watch Sonia Sabri, our Artistic Director and Kathak Artist, demonstrate in 8 easy steps!
    Step-by-step:
    1. Unravel ghungroo into a line on the floor, so the braid of the cord is facing upwards.
    2. Wear leg warmers or tuba stretch fabric to protect your ankles and lower shins.
    3. Align the start of the ghungroo from the first bell outside of and behind the ankle bone and keep it there.
    4. Tie the cord around your first three toes. This provides tension to tie the rest of the ghungroo.
    5. Wrap the ghungroo around ensuring the braided part sits on the leg. The bells should always face outwards.
    6. Keep pushing the rows downwards so there are no gaps - the overall look should be neat!
    7. Untie the cord from the toes and weave it between the ghungroo upwards, meeting the other cord and tie a knot.
    8. Wrap the surplus around and tuck the remaining ends underneath. And you’re done!
