    all in one package is a bad thing for you? I think its better to have less waste and I don't see any negative effects from this, they're easy to distinguish by their colored ball ends

  • @TheGalwayFarmer
    @TheGalwayFarmer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Yes, because you're such an amazing guitar player that you can't possibly use strings that have come all in the same package. Utter rubbish

    A lot is personal taste and how you will be using them. And since they all have personality, different guitars like different strings. I tried the NYXLs and liked them a LOT more than I expected to.

      Yes when you have several guitar is almost impossible to go back from Elixir... I had to change my string on a Strat with Blue steels (That I use to love) and i can already see some wear out after.... mmm 4 days... nice nice...

    I think you have the same problem as me. You need to spend more time practicing and less time worrying about everything else. As long as it feels good enough, this level of worry shouldn’t concern players until they are at pro level playing. I spend so long worrying about tone, amp, effects, setup etc and my playing is average. Just started having lessons and learning more worrying less. Just my opinion.

  • @freshelfpie

    Dude that's a lot of crying about the green packaging. Just saying. These do feel stiffer than the same guage in regular strings. Also much louder and punchier. I thing regular 9s are a little floppy. These NYXL 9s are.perfect for me.

    Got my first pack today and I must agree. I fucking hate the way the strings are packaged, however I played my Strat for several hours and LOVED the feel of the strings.

  • @brothersnippy1373
    @brothersnippy1373 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The only reason you should need to change strings every 2 weeks is if you are playing 10 hours a day or you possibly have acid coming from your sweat pores corroding the strings.

  • @ChronicDownpicker
    @ChronicDownpicker 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    At least they started putting them in ordered pairs with the packaging back in the day it wasn't like that... I've been dirty ball forever - but just got a new old jaguar strung with D'addario. Usually hate how bright they start, but I don't notice that anymore.

    OK, I can understand a guys frustration at times.... I'm a flat out Amateur guitar player, I have no trouble at all admitting that. That doesn't stop me from obtaining guitars that far out-class my ability because I just love guitars and to me they are like art... And, sense I am looking for a particular sound/tone from a particular guitar, I buy and change strings more often than maybe a lot of other guitar people might.... Personally, I very much like D'Addario strings and go through quite a few in search of what kind of sound I'm after! I'm signed up with their string club and have regularly checked above my house for black helicopters and low orbiting satellites bearing their logo.... I have this computer scanned by friends who are ex-CIA for D'Addario spy ware and so far, nothing! I did get a hang-up call recently that was suspicious..... As it turns out, it was some little old lady who thought she had dialed her Doctor's Office! ;)

    I have not tried the NXL strings on any guitar yet. When it comes to the Fender Strat I've tried several brands over many years... but the Strat is a different beast and kinda loses a bit of magic with certain brands in feel, tone and staying in tune when using the trem. For me, I've found the tried and true Fender Super Bullets size 10s work well, but I'm sure there are better out there.

    I buy my strings in bulk, usually D'Addario 10 pack for $30 - $35 from Musicians Friend. Single packs in the music stores here can go for $4 - $6 a pack depending and I'm in the US. Soapy water ... LMAO!

    Have you tryed to lower the angle of Strings behind the Nut against that slinkey feel? If you increase the breakangle behind the nut or/and behind the bridge, you get a stiffer string behavior. You could "combine' that with mixed Sets of Strings or stay with the 9th. Either way, try it for your taste of prefared tention. Well wishings

    Tried them...didn't like them. Feel that they transmit vibrato less. More so with NYXLs than with XLs. Not at all sure that they last longer than other brands. Gone back to Ernie Balls...somehow feel more at home.....only been playing for sixty years so what would I know?

    You keep batching about the price of elixirs yet if you leave them on. Until they start to go bad you actually have saved lots.ive had my first set of 9s that I put on to try them 4 years ago on my jag .than I just got finished building a strat type and put some on that too .the 4 year old strings are just starting to be less bright than the new ones.so I've saved money.

  • @shred5

    I find that pure nickel strings bend like strings a gauge down. They actually do have more tension, but the wire is soft so it gives that illusion. NYXLs feel closer to a gauge up as they have a super stiff wire. I went from probably pure nickel strings to NYXLs on my Les Paul and I barely noticed a difference (9s). I didn't really love or hate the tone, but they held up amazingly well, so I stuck with them. The way I see it is they are worth the extra cost unless you change strings weekly or more.
    On American Standard strat I tried the NYXL 10s and could barely play it though so I quickly put the set of NYXL 9s I had bought for my Les Paul on and it felt about perfect, maybe a little better than stainless or nickel strings in 10s even, same boat you're in really.

    Hate Elixir strings, bought two sets and first time I bent the top E on the first set it snapped, second set, snapped on the B string and before anyone jumps in with 'Da, it must be the guitar brah'...I call bullshit as this never happened with my usual brand (D'Addario).

  • @louisstark8066
    @louisstark8066 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    ok!! so I realize you don't know me from Adam but! and I really enjoy your video's . I've been playing guitar about 40 years for what it's worth. these strings might last longer and be a little stiffer. I find regular d addaro's are also a little stiffer than say ernie balls or ghs. and not twice as much ether. anyway, your strings got slinkier but you didn't change anything. your hands just got a little stronger I think. you should just try 10's on one of your guitars. don't be afraid. lol. the higher the gauge the lower you can make your action. I recently put elevens on my les paul and was surprised at well it played and the tuning is more stable too. the reason I went up in gauge was because I play blues and my right hand seems heavy on light strings.. remember the tone is in your hands not the guitar or strings.. Does Eric Clapton, jimmy page or angus young use special strings I think not... keep on rockin bro.....

    I use 8-38s on my electric guitars and I tried the NYXLs and I didn't get what the fuss was about, they not been any better than some the real cheap stuff I've tried, I'm glad when I tried them they were a 1/3 of the price or I would have really felt ripped off.

    The one pack holds all 6 strings thing is environmental - I find that favourable - less paper means less trees used is most likely the reason. If you do join their little D'Addario Players Club they give points with each string purchase towards free t-shirts and accessories. Interestingly, the Elixirs cost more stateside.Who knew ?

  • @dalepal
    @dalepal 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I haven’t tried D'Addario NYXL strings yet. Their website shows they are high-carbon steel core and plain steel alloy with reformulated nickel plated string windings. You’ll have to let us know what you think after playing them longer. It’s funny you always have soapy water which could have been used to apply the vinyl.

    I like the NYXLs a lot (though I don't use them on every guitar). The set I have on my main guitar now is a couple of months old and they still sound and feel great.
    D'Addario has been using that all-in-one packing practically forever now. I don't really care about packaging, but I've grown to like it; less crap to throw out.

    is that buzz from the pickup alone? is that normal? mine makes alottt of noise and im not sure if its bad or not

    • @DaGn0528
      @DaGn0528 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +calvin neason It's also from the added distortion. But yes, it's normal. Single coil pickups are known to produce a lot of buzz. In the second and fourth positions on a Strat (2 pickups on) the buzz gets cancelled, acting as if it were a humbucker. Fender has come out with some single coil pickups that don't create that noise, but some believe that they don't make the same, good tone that they're used to.
