- Hi,
In this tutorial, I'll walk you through my process of creating creatures in ZBrush and Maya and then rendering the final model in Arnold Render.
I'll break down the major steps, covering concept sculpting, retopology, sculpting primary details in ZBrush, extracting displacement, and creating Arnold light rigs and shaders for the final render.
I hope this breakdown will help you in creating your art.
Thank you.
John

As someone who is new to Maya and zbrush your process looks so complicated but your model looks really really good.
Greatest Timelapse! Love every project breakdown. Creative process is different each time.

wow~!
Thank you!
This is a great piece! Thank you for sharing your process!😍
I have a question. Is there a special reason to use Wrap3D instead of ZWrap?
Thank you and happy to help. I haven't used ZWrap; I've always used Wrap 3D in production for topology and texture transfer, it also has many useful nodes for blend shapes and Facial Coding System.
Thank you man! Great tut! Only one question: can you explain more in depth the steps to export-import udims/maps?
Thank you. I'll keep that in mind for future tutorials
Hi, congrats for the work. At 21:45 my ramp is square, not work properly. Any idea? I tested in a normal sphere and works. Thx
Incredible work and very useful for many tips! I only have one problem, if I render my mesh the displacement is shown correctly when I render it with CPU, but when I switch to GPU, the mesh is completely flat. Do you know how to fix this?
Thank you! Arnold GPU could be buggy sometimes, that's why I keep switching between CPU/GPU rendering. For final Render I always use CPU
Hello John, how do you perform retopology on a mesh if you want to add a body to the neck? tks for the video!!!!
Decimate in zbruah and combine them
Had a quick question about the eye area for you. When you create the miniscus around the eye/eyelid area is there any trick to getting it to show up on render time. I notice the displacement from the head causes the eyelids to kinda expand and cover parts of it. Do you kind of just massage it into place based on the results of the render? Maybe my displacement is a bit much, but was curious if this is something you deal with.
You can use decimated model in maya viewport and use "Make Live"
@@john.saleem Thanks for the reply. Will do!!!
What setting did you change to get the see-through to be blue instead of grey in ZBrush?
You can change it from the preferences menu - Draw - Then select the transparent color you like.
Great Tutorial John
could you help me with more brief on light right which u created or tutorial how to create one. so that it helps me in my arnold render.
Thanks! follow the light breakdown in the video and try rebuilding it couple of times. you'll learn with practice.
hi thank you for the video please do Arcane style character for us
can you mkae a short video how to render on gpu in maya please
Just switch to GPU instead of CPU in Arnold Render settings :)
@@john.saleem I tried but on GPU it's time like more than 5 minutes just to compiling the shader's before it's start rendering.. and I try to render 2k on CPU and GPU..
On CPU it's take 12 mints but clean result but one GPU it's take 8:30sec but noise I used camera ai samples around 20 still noise but on CPU I used like 8 or 10 samples
I likes the matcap can you share It?
I added a download link in the description.

Where did you learn?
In-house production experience
@@john.saleemNice, im learning with vertex school, but i suck xD. I have like 2 years practicing and still suck
@@stormk-1130 I'm sure you are doing alright. I wasn't that good when I started. Just keep practicing ... With time and practice, you'll do a better work than the Creature in this tutorial :) . All the best.
@@john.saleem I doubt it lol, but hey at least im trying xD
