I use this indian clay mask with ACV once a week. The redness (like a sunburn) that occurs is the blood being lifted to the surface of the skin rejuvenating skin cells. The redness is completely gone within 30 minutes of taking off the mask. I love this mask ❤️.

I prefer the white Amazonian clay. I mix mine with rosewater and depending on my skin I may add a few drops of tea tree oil or other oil. It works great and never had any issues.

You're a HOOT!!! And brave for trying the things you do. My biggest mess up. A homemade orange juice facial toner. Results? A skin rash for days. Live & Learn. I've lived a lot of years but I'm still torn at how much I've learned.

Never use anything acidic on your face, via apple cider or any vinegar or lemons or lemon juice! If you had been in the sun--you would have gotten an intense burn. I use Bentonite clay --same one you reviewed in fact, and it has lots of healing properties--just use water. I also make my own tooth powder with this Bentonite clay and my teeth are super white--the clay absorbs any possible impurities in the gums. The clay can now be purchased at CVS in addition to Whole Foods Market, in the vitamin section.

You only get burns if you used it incorrectly, i used to use it with acv and used ALOT of it, so yes it burned my face but after learning how to use it properly I can’t live without it, it cleared my skin.

Hey Lou! I use a wooden pistol and mortar to grind and mix the clay with a watery substance, and as a result, no chunks left and smooth application. You are definitely on the ball in terms the use on sensitive skin. It is not recommended, especially with an acid like apple cider, which can be aggravating for sensitive skin but, you MAY want to try it with a Thayer Alcohol free toner or any other gentle toner with a few drops of fragrance-free beauty oil (I use grape seed, but whatever works for your skin). Before I apply it, I slather a fragrance-free beauty oil on my face as a protective barrier against the grittiness and the over-dryingness of this mask. Correct, waiting time no longer than 10-15. Then, instead of removing it with a washcloth, which again, can potentially aggravate sensitive or dry skin, I would get in the shower (yes, I mean get in the shower naked and take a shower :) get the water at luke to warm temp (not hot=over-drying!) and gently rub this stuff off your face. You will have a better time removing and dissolving the mask since you have priorly applied oils to protect the skin. Anyways, I guess those are my 10 cents about how to go about it with dry sensitive skin :D

Hey Lou! I have very sensitive skin and I use this once a month. It really seems to tighten my skin & pores. I use it with half apple cider vinegar and half water as the liquid mixing agents. My face is red for an hour afterwards but it's not a big deal because it disappears and the rewards outweigh the short-term redness!

My son uses this & it works great for his acne. We use apple cider vinegar & mix it in a glass bowl with a plastic spoon. He takes off his shirt & I apply it with the back of the plastic spoon & he washes it off in the shower.
His face is red afterwards for a while but so far it works!

I'm automatically suspicious of anything that has 12,000+ reviews! My favorite mask is an inexpensive one: Concha Nacar de Perlop #3 Bleach Cream. It's not really a bleach cream, but I'm fair and this mask is marketed to Hispanics so maybe it does a little temporary lightening on deeper skin tones. I leave it on for 1 hour and it makes my skin feel really clean and soothed. I do not have breakout probems but I've tried lots of masks - face lifting ones with egg white in them, hydrating types, peel offs (which I hate), anti-aging, you name it. But I always have a jar of Concha on hand for when I feel my face needs a little extra cleaning or light exfoliation without any trauma. The salicylic acid in it agrees with my skin.

Bentonite clay isn't bad for you, it's clay. The part of the acid on the vinegar is not good mainly because it reacts with the clay.

I've used this before and loved it! Mixed it with a bit of tap water... massaged it on my damp face with my fingers, and left a very thin coat to dry. It tightens the face up, but it's only temporary, as soon as you washrag and rinse it off, there goes the tightening! I like it bc it leaves the skin very receptive to any sort of moisturizer or serum I put on it afterwards.

I've used cosmetic grade betonite for years -- you can buy it at Whole foods in bulk, among many other places. But I've always mixed it with things like honey, and milk, and pure matcha powder, powdered oatmeal, single drops of lavender or tea tree oil, sweet almond oil, rosehip seed oil, grapeseed oil, maracuja oil, argan oil, aloe gel, bamboo water gel, cucumber pulp, yogurt, etc. Not all at once! but I'd gather a handful of ingredients and use the clay to bind it and make it stick to my face. Basically, just using it as a mixing medium to help hold things to your face that are already good for your skin, along with some moisturizing ingredients to make sure the clay didn't suck all the life out of my skin.
I guess what really amuses me about this particular clay from Amazon, is it's a favorite of reddit.com/r/skincareaddiction . But as for all skin care, it's ymmv. What works for one person is guaranteed to make someone else break out. =)
