Dude.. one of the best covers I've seen. Accuracy is hard to find, and enthusiasm is usually a trade off. If someone drums something this well, I feel like they are too serious, and seem tense and boring. You were having a great time and did a very good job, I'll probably watch this cover like 10 more times. Rock on brother, love to see it.
I will also say I was amazed at how you done so much with such a small kit with this song. I have a 9 Piece Yamaha SCB Kit I use and way to many cymbals to go along with it.You've shown you don't need a big ass kit to play songs that were done on a bigger kit,and I respect that!
@rossidanrossi Thanks very much for watching, I'm glad you didn't think it was lame! Their older stuff, at least for me, up through Promised Land is good. After that not so much. Please comment on the rest, and thanks again for watching!
ive been working on this song for a few days so I thought I would look up some covers on here. GREAT FREAKIN JOB. I saw a couple of things you are doing that I wasnt "hearing" on the record so now I can correct those. thanks for the help!!!!
We're cool. I have watched your cover a few more times and you do a great job on it.I have seen so many people attempt to play QR songs and be way off and it makes me wonder if they even listened or practiced to the song or not before trying to record it and put it on here.I have pretty much built my kit around playing QR,but with more cymbals and toms.I am not the best drummer in the world,I struggle playing QR songs mainly because I don't have a DB Pedal, which I am considering.Keep Rockin!
Thanks! When I started doing covers I wasn't going to do them note for note. I haven't, but most of them I try to get all the parts right, which anyone rightfully should. Thanks for enjoying what was correct and what was improv!
Thought this was going to pretty damn lame. Started to watch and couldn't stop...gonna check out some of your other videos. Excellent job! Never a real big Queensryche fan, maybe I'll have to check out more of their stuff. Great Job Man!
Thank you. Since I don't have china cymbals I used the bell of the crashes, or just the crash itself depending on the context of where they were used. I agree with you, many people don't listen closely enough, and in turn play parts wrong. I always try to play the base parts correctly, but there should also be room to add your 2 cents in. There isn't much in copping EVERYTHING someone does, considering everyone lends a different feel to the piece. Thanks for watching, please check out my others!
Thanks for watching the video. If you noticed, I actually played the China parts where they mattered on the bell of my cymbals. Covers shouldn't be note for note anyway. In most cases the original artists don't even play them the same considering as time goes on they evolve as anything does. All that aside, if I had chinas, of course I would have played them accordingly!
Thanks, Jake, that's very true, every cover will be different due to style. I try to retain the "feel" of everyone I cover, which is VERY HARD, considering artists don't think of anything but what they do, yet in a cover situation a player has to be a chameleon. I spent many years playing to tracks and trying to capture the feel as well as hitting every note as I heard them. Regarding your compliment, thank you VERY MUCH!!!
I understand personal style.I don't expect people to play note for note,I sure as heck don't It's fun to learn the song note for note first then add or take away what you want from there. Scott is a very different drummer then most people realize. He has this style that just stands out above others.I am not saying he is the best,I can think of many who are better, but I do like his style of drumming and what he has to offer to the world of music. He uses a China is about 80% of songs recorded.
Thanks, Mike. The "haters" don't bother me, but really everyone has been super cool, I can't ask for more than that. Having a smaller kit I'm forced to try and become creative although I don't always have the same pieces. I recently upgraded my kit back to how I used to play it. 3 toms across and 1 floor tom. So the upcoming videos will include those and will be fun :)
Hey Shawn! I meant no disrespect and it wasn't personal. My cover is about as note for note as you will find, aside from the China cymbals being missing. You said "people don't listen to the songs close enough" so I responded to your comment as if you were talking about me. Since you commented on my video, of course I figured that's what you were saying. So I was just pointing out that I did try to account for them by using the bells of the crashes. At least you know I listen close ;)
I'm in no way shape or form saying to play it like it is recorded,Hell Scott Rockenfield doesn't,but the China cymbals in this song are hit way to often and a big part of the first part and last part of the song. I know covers aren't suppose to be exact note for note, that would take all the fun out of it. I didn't say you did a bad job,it just would of been better with the China's.
Nice cover except there is a lot of China Cymbal work that Scott Rockenfield put in to this song. I guess this is the problem with covers, people don't listen to the songs close enough.I haven't seen to many good Ryche covers on here.

Outside that crazy thing you do opening your mouth, you ARE SCOTT ROCKINGFIELD!!! I love the extras at the end! Killer job, bro!!!
Dude, why are you staring at my mouth? Ask yourself that question, LOL ;) Thanks for watching and the nice compliment!
Thanks very much, I'm glad my cover was able to help aide you in learning the tune!
Thanks for watching and the nice compliments!

Right on time bro ! Excellent to say the least !!
I love the kick at 2:04. I don't know what that's called but I love it. Great stuff. Love all your playing.

@stijneman7 Very cool, glad you enjoyed it!
Good job bro! You got it!
Hope you’re still drumming..
Watched it again 6 years later. I knew this would kick ass before it started.
Yep. I was right.
GJ!!
Thank you!
Roy Van Tassel you feel this song right in your soul man.

You were spot on rockinfield with a beard

King
WOW dude, add a couple chinas to your kit and this just might be the most "spot on" cover I have ever heard!

Do you use heel to for the Chorus - "Eyes of a stranger"?
wth? is that...john petrucci on drums? :-D bravo, really good job!
You do drum faces better than Lars Ulrich great job man👍
Hey, Roy! Can I have this video WITHOUT the Queensryche track playing behind you?
Sorry, Tim, but I don't have it anymore!
that was tight as shit bro
Yep, heel up always, so the only strokes you're hearing are being struck with the ball of the foot.
sounds great but visually it's like you're missing a tom? i mean is there any tom there? i'm confused
HAHA, thanks!
the drums for this song always sound like a drum machine to me. Am I wrong about that because I doubt a person can play that precisely?
Sorry dude. You are very wrong. The drummer is a very real human beast!
Heel toe, oh gosh something was wrong with my typing that day. That means a lot of ankle I guess. Ala bonzo?
Done*

I’m late to the party I guess but we’ll done brother
GREAT JOB, CHECK OUT MY VIDEO ON THIS SONG, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK

No, sir, heel up only.
Thank you!
Roy Van Tassel your a great drummer man.
