Personally I like the belt being only on predictions cause it isn't swapped every few weeks. But that's just me. About Dave not liking Punk, I'm pretty Punk vs Cena at MITB 2011 was the first 5 star he gave to a match in WWE in like 14 years at that point (the last being HBK vs Taker in 97 or something like that). Also, that Authority Survivor Series match is probably my favorite Survivor Series match. Ziggler's comeback was epic.

Tips for Dave Meltzer star ratings 1. It gets an extra star in the Tokyo dome 2. He doesn't love gimmick matches neither taker vs mankind or tlc2 were given 5 stars 3. His grading has gotten much more lenient in recent years since he broke the 5 star system giving matches more than 5 4. He somehow has never given a Kurt angle match 5 stars
You for got rule 5, if it involves ospreay or omega you have to include the tissue tax, they get a extra half star for every time he knocks one out watching them
Time to play along (Spoilers lol, also im a casual): 1: Definitely Mox vs Danielson, AEW's style gets more Meltzer stars, also I don't think Danielson had many high star matches in WWE. (Closer than I thought, but yeah 1/1) 2: Orton vs Foley, I feel like that was an iconic match back in the day. Rollins vs Ambrose was a great feud, but I usually vote against mid-2010s WWE here (2/2) 3: I feel like both are quite low, but I'll go for Styles vs Bully Ray since AJ Styles is always quite consistent and idk how good Big Show or Lesnar were (welp 2/3) 4: Ospreay vs Takagi, and it's not even close. Their rivalry the past few years has been iconic and usually produces 5.5+ star matches (LOL 3/4) 5: I feel like it's the HIAC match?? Definitely gotta touch on NJPW, there are often bangers during the Omega/Okada era and Shingo definitely reinvigorated the brand when he signed with them.
Quick little tip for the Stache Club if we do another of these. 9 times out of 10 if a match is placed against Will Ospreay vs Shingo Takagi (Tuh-Ka-Gee), Ospreay/Takagi never goes under 5 stars. They have so many 5+ star encounter

I'm no fan of Meltzer's ratings (even if I do find myself agreeing with some of them) but I will always stand by that Shawn/Flair match just being alright. It's really carried by the emotions like many retirement matches are but it's not some fantastic match....it's just alright. The match has also unfortunately been ruined by Flair deciding to step back in the ring just a few years later.

I don't know why people get mad for Dave's ratings It's just his taste in wrestling, of course the things that HE likes more will have better ratings, the problem is that people care too much about Dave's opinion And just saying, an important point about the ratings, the Okada-Omega trilogy it's a big moment, because after that a 5-star match became less important. Don't get me wrong, a 5-star match still is a huge match these days, but back then, a 5-star it was a fucking awesome match I like the Meltzer rating very much, is a great and easy way to find matches to watch, just like IMDB or Rotten. And if a match that you like doesn't get a 5-star doesn't mean it's bad, wrestling is personal, as any other form of entertainment
The problem is people think he is the voice of wrestling. Which is bullshit. Most fans know that Taker vs Michaels is a five star match. Most fans DON'T know anything about the indie matches. But for some reason we keep hearing his name like it's important. I'm only mad that people thinks what he says sound educated

Flair vs HBK is arguably the most memorable end of a match of all time But, it wasn’t a particularly great match overall. It was just a decent match when watched back.
I probably would've picked Will on every match he was in. He's great for sure, but Meltzer has a big thing for him and Japan style. Has he given him anything less than 5 stars lately?
Will’s wrestled A LOT, it’s mostly his big hyped matches that get 5(or more)stars. Man has had plenty of matches, that were just 4 at best last year. But that doesn’t get attention🤷🏽♂️

Edge/Finn over HBK/Flair? 4.5/3.5? Wow that’s crazy. This is coming from someone who’s idealized Edge the entire time watching WWE. Both matches were amazing but HBK/Flair was better
i think dave rated it so low simply because hbk + ric weren't in their prime anymore, they were just older. story-wise, the match was incredible and leagues better than edge vs balor.
Undertaker/Michaels at Wrestlemania didn't get five stars (even though he later ranked it as the best match of the year). His entire ranking system is horribly flawed and worthless.
I know people are gonna hate on the Will Ospreay 6 star match, but Shingo had more 5 star matches than Will that year. It was the 2 best of New Japan that year
The ospreay match was NJPW most likely and it was obviously the best pro wrestling match so of course it beat the SummerSlam match with reigns and lesnar
Look if it’s WWE vs another promotion, always choose other (unless it’s NXT). Flair and Shawn, and RVD vs Cena are so criminally low that I legitimately think he somehow was watching different matches during them

Flair vs HBK is arguably the most memorable end of a match of all time
But, it wasn’t a particularly great match overall. It was just a decent match when watched back.

i think dave rated it so low simply because hbk + ric weren't in their prime anymore, they were just older. story-wise, the match was incredible and leagues better than edge vs balor.

The main thing to remember when it comes to guessing Meltzer ratings is that he (generally) rates JUST the in-ring action.
A No Hands, Barrel Match sounds entertaining... handcuffed and try to get the opponent in a barrel.

The ospreay match was NJPW most likely and it was obviously the best pro wrestling match so of course it beat the SummerSlam match with reigns and lesnar

If it’s a mediocre AEW match and Meltzer stars it will get more than the greatest wwe match in history
