If there was an award for best adaptation of a Christmas Carol and an award for best Christmas musical, I bet this film would win! I love it so badly, its awesome!!
In 1970 in my sophomore year in high school, our English teacher took us on a field trip tp see this movie. I was never a fan of musicals, but this is my favorite adaptation of the story. 30 years later, I played it for my wife. It's now her favorite too...
Yes, this is my favourite version of a classic tale. To Albert Finney and everyone involved, I’d like to jump up and sing, “Thank You Very Much, Thank You Very Much . . .!” Saw it at its US premiere, at Radio City Music Hall in New York! Left there feeling great!
I also saw this wonderful musical at Radio City Music Hall back in 1970. It was( and is still ) my favorite experience of movie-going as a child( or an adult ). Radio City was a fabulous place to see a movie in those days! I was deeply touched by Finney's heart-rending portrayal of Scrooge`s regret at not deciding to marry Isabel as a young man. ( I have a very similar regret...😥) I just have to say " thank you very much" to Cinema Center Films, for creating the greatest presentation of this Charles Dickens classic ever filmed, and bringing it to American audiences!
@@asorrentino38 “Thank you very much” for sharing your memories. People were singing that number as they exited Radio City! Glad to meet another fan of this film!
The musicals of the 60s were on their way out, and the oft-portrayed Dickens' story needed to be put to music. What a way for the musical to go out with a bang!
This is my favorite Scrooge film of all time and only one of a handful of musicals I actually love. Albert Finney was magical and made Scrooge feel more "real" to me, revealing the truth of his past and how he became the miserly bastard he became...but with much more genuine feeling. I still well up when watching the You/Happiness/You Reprise scenes and I watch it every year.
Never saw it. A Christmas Carol musical with Kelsey Grammar and Jason Alexander was a total bomb! So after seeing that atrocity I've shied away from Christmas musicals! 👅
I did not see that version, but the 1970 movie with Albert Finney and Sir Alec Guinness is worth watching. The songs actually advance the plot, and the actors are not made to sing what is wrong for their voices.
Scrooge, starring Albert Finney, isn't my favorite version of A Christmas Carol. My favorite is the 1951 version, starring Alistair Sim. But, it is my 2nd favorite. I watched them both this Christmas back to back.
If I had to guess. This movie my have been made to capitalize on the success of the Broadway musical Oliver. Which had been adapted as musical film two years earlier.
Best Christmas movie ever .Albert Finney nailed it .The musical score was fantastic. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without it .R.I.P. Albert Finney

Albert Finney was my favorite actor. A genius. RIP

Finney played scrooge at 34..remarkable..
Yeah when Scrooge the character was actually meant to be in his 50s/60s
The best portrayal of Scrooge ever!
The best version EVA...
EVA!!! 🤗🤗💞
Guinness double hernia.. Shocker.. Brilliant performance
I miss Robert Osborne's information and wisdom about films. He was, and still is to me, the heart and spirit of Turner Classic Movies.
Best Christmas movie ever.
Harrison.. Harris.. Finney. Thankfully we got Finney..

Or a bust like the Kelsey Grammar disaster.
Another Christmas Miracle! 🤪
I think this version gives you the coldest feel of all....
My favorite movie ever... period!

Keeping in mind that Dame Edith Evans worked with Finney in Tom Jones a few years earlier.

Never understood why this film is largely forgotten by the general public.

Jeffrey Coogan I’ve always thought that. The songs are great, but they do have that Oliver vibe.
@@srkh8966 Both Based on Charles Dickens stories too they even used the same sets as Oliver
@@joeypieper6384 Well, yes
Yes ❤
I miss Robert Osborne.
GREAT ALBERT FINNEY THE BEST GREAT
A truly awful film. George c Scott must be spinning in his grave.
Thankfully you're in the minority. It's a great film. The George C. Scott version is quite good too!
@@digitalgr8ness Albert's accent was pretty bad
@@crakatoot5480 I know he did have an unusual voice. But I still liked it
@@crakatoot5480 Yeah those British actors just can't do credible British accents...
@@Philbert-s2c George was better. A role like that needs a real American
