    Stylo is the banger, Empire Ants is the cryer and On Melancholy Hill is their magnum opus

      respectfully, there are a few other gorillaz songs that could be considered their magnum opus such as clint eastwood, rhinestone eyes or even better, empire ants. on melancholy hill is cool but it's not much

      @@radeline On Melancholy Hill for me is other-worldly, I can’t describe but it always take me to an island I’ve never been before, but full of my memory debris… I love these songs equally though

    Damon was a young man during the 80s so it's like an ode to the music of his youth. I love how this album brought in those retro elements and updated and paired them with modern sounds and vocals.

    • @lusciousluie
      @lusciousluie  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I can totally see that being the case. Parts of Demon Days felt like it had the same influences. Tame Impala had major 80s influences as well, which I think helps grab a lot of demographics.

  • @patjackson8649
    @patjackson8649 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    The soul singer featured on the two tracks is the late Bobby Womack. He and Damon were working together at the time on an album ‘The Bravest Man in the Universe’ which Damon, and Richard Russell of XL Recordings, produced and wrote for Bobby.
    It’s a real joy to see you reacting to Gorillaz. Thanks for this and the Demon Days one, too

    • @lusciousluie
      @lusciousluie  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      i appreciate the insight on Bobby! I clearly had a narrow scope on who he was and what he brought to the table. It took some time to really appreciate what was going on during Cloud of Unknowing but I've come to enjoy Bobby's parts on this album.

    You should listen to demon days. Also damon Albarn the singer and main musical mastermind behind this project was in a band called Blur in the 90s. I recommend checking out their 1997 self-titled album it’s great.

      "average plastic beach has 3 pirate jets a song" factoid actualy just statistical error. average album has 0 pirate jets per song. Pirate jet Georg, who has electronic beat & sings pirate jet over 10,000 each song, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.

    Gorillaz - Song Machine reaction when? Loved this and Demon Days reviews!

  • @riahlexington
    @riahlexington ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Gorillaz is a project by comics artist Jamie Hewlett and musician Damon Albarn, the frontman of Blur in the 90s. Damon likes to incorporate many styles and genres from around the world. Damon is extremely anti war and pro environment. The older music videos have storylines with cartoon band members drawn by Hewlett. Damon likes to feature many artists in this project. I recommend Demon Days.

My absolutely favourite songs on Song mashine however are Momentary Bliss and Pacman they are on point for me when it comes to those funky vibes

    The first 7 tracks on this album set it up to be one of the greatest of all time, but honestly when it gets to the middle the album slows down a bit imo. Personally I think there's only a few songs on the second half that are as good as the first, like melancholy hill, plastic beach and pirate jet, and while the other tracks are good, they never added up to the rest for me. Still an amazing project overall tho.
